This book was released on 2020-04-30 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABOUT BOOK In this study, Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University and Bishkek Humanities University students' level of study skills and their differences; students' ability to prepare for the lesson and exam, their exam anxiety and time management were examined. Today, people experience changes and developments within the framework of education. Rapidly developing technology and artificial intelligence demand better innovations from the human brain. This, of course, causes changes in educational programs. These days, new generations are expected to be 'world citizens' where students are expected to speak, at least, in two foreign languages, have a good knowledge of technology, good communication skills and be successful in everything else. These expectations increase responsibilities of a student in the education and training process and often cause difficulties in adapting to changing conditions. The university student's adaptability to good study skills from the first year will help him/her easily overcome most academic challenges and take advantage of learning opportunities. As we know, learning is a lifelong skill, and when mastered, it will have positive effects with every new beginning. When the student knows his/her style better, he/she becomes more motivated and learns how to use his/her time correctly so that he/she will be more successful in further academic career. By adapting good study skills, students gain a great opportunity to overcome all possible obstacles in the educational process. Good study skills help students take advantage of learning opportunities, reduce exam stress, and help students feel safe (Devine, 1987). Exam anxiety occurs with physical and psychological changes and generally affects student's educational performance negatively. Unfortunately, the results of the exam determine the success of the student in the intensive education life. Under the pressure of parents and society, students are not being able to show their true knowledge. Therefore, instead of putting pressure on students, trying to motivate even their smallest achievements will bring positive results.

Book Preparing Teachers for the 21st Century

Download or read book Preparing Teachers for the 21st Century written by Xudong Zhu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-16 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses two main questions, namely how to prepare high-quality teachers in the 21st century and how the East and the West can learn from each other. It addresses the different challenges and dilemmas that eastern countries, especially China, and western countries are facing with regard to teacher education. We explore the question by examining teacher education research, practice and policy in different countries, identifying both common problems and country-specific challenges. We then try to find valuable experiences, theories and practice which can solve specific problems in the process of teacher education, also addressing how local and global factors impact it. In this regard, our approach does not strictly separate pre-service teacher education from teachers’ in-service professional development, adopting an integrative perspective. Further, we believe the respective social and cultural contexts must also be taken into account. Lastly, we call for teachers’ knowledge and individual character traits to be accounted for in the education of high-quality teachers.

Book Help Them Learn a Language Deeply

Download or read book Help Them Learn a Language Deeply written by Francois Victor Tochon and published by Deep University Press. This book was released on 2015-08-21 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tochon's Deep Approach is a convergence of what worked best in earlier approaches to learning foreign languages and cultures. Its holistic scope allows for more student autonomy and works for the planet and society while working on the language. The instructional principles I believe in for teachers are to: Go by the results of motivation research, and provide incentives for self-directed learning and self-determination. Help students build their curriculum through their own literacy-based thematic units, indexing all language modalities to each other. Emphasize process rather than outcomes; refer to instructional organizers in forward planning rather than goals or outcomes in a backward planning. Encourage individualized, peer-oriented, and small group project-based learning, focusing on cultural content and social action; Give primacy to text. Consider grammar as storytelling about language; target extensive reading/viewing and intensive writing/recording. Use deep formative feedback and empowerment evaluation. Integrate self-evaluations and peer-evaluations. Focus on value creation: highlight critical issues related to the respect of other languages and cultures, language status and invisible or open discrimination, the colonial mindset versus principles of social justice, and linguistic human rights for peace building. Here is what makes this approach distinct: The students are placed in charge of building their own curriculum and projects to achieve their own desired expertise, using accountability measures through instructional agreements. The basis of the students' curriculum building is the teacher's provision of literary and multimedia resources organized adaptively. The teacher becomes expert in scaffolding and facilitating feedback. Knowledge is not a 'thing' that can be taught as an object: it is understood as deep, subjective and intersubjective, inseparable from the identity process. The focus is on deep processing, not standardized outcomes similar for all. There is room for diversity and flexibility, non-native speaker comfort, code-switching, and unique perspectives. It targets transdisciplinary values for a more sensible and wiser world-this way language learning becomes the means toward conflict resolution, ending war and poverty, re-greening the planet, and turning to politics for the human. In summary, understanding the Deep Approach is seeing Education and schooling in an "avant-garde" way "

Book Heritage Cuisines

Download or read book Heritage Cuisines written by Dallen J. Timothy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-11-19 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Food is one of the most fundamental elements of culture and a significant marker of regional and ethnic identity. It encompasses many other elements of cultural heritage beyond the physical ingredients required for its production. These include folklore, religion, language, familial bonds, social structures, environmental determinism, celebrations and ceremonies, landscapes, culinary routes, smells, and tastes, to name but a few. However, despite all that is known about foodways and cuisine from hospitality, gastronomical, supply chain and agricultural perspectives, there still remains a dearth of consolidated research on the wide diversity of food and its heritage attributes and contexts. This edited volume aims to fill this void by consolidating into a single volume what is known about cuisines and foodways from a heritage perspective and to examine and challenge the existing paradigms, concepts and practices related to gastronomic practices, intergenerational traditions, sustainable agriculture, indigenous rituals, immigrant stories and many more heritage elements as they pertain to comestible cuisines and practices. The book takes a global and thematic approach in examining heritage cuisines from a wide range of perspectives, including agriculture, hunting and gathering, migration, ethnic identity and place, nationalism, sustainability, colonialism, food diversity, religion, place making, festivals, and contemporary movements and trends. All chapters are rich in empirical examples but steady and sound in conceptual depth. This book offers new insight and understanding of the heritage implications of cuisines and foodways. The multidisciplinary nature of the content will appeal to a broad academic audience in the fields of tourism, gastronomy, geography, cultural studies, anthropology and sociology.
