Book Study of the B to Xclnu Decays and Determination of

Download or read book Study of the B to Xclnu Decays and Determination of written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report studies of semileptonic decays, B → X{sub c}l[nu], based on a sample of 88 million B{bar B} events recorded with the BABAR detector. We have measured four moments of the electron energy and hadronic mass distributions and determined the inclusive branching fraction, the CKM matrix element.

Book excerpt: The study of b quarks has now reached a stage where it is useful to review what has been learned so far and also to look at the implications of future studies. The most important observations thus far measurement of the B lifetime, B0 B0 mixing, and the observation of b? u transitions, as well as more mundane results on hadronic and semileptonic transitions are described in detail by experimentalists who have been closely involved with the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b quark decays, including the mechanisms of hadronic and semileptonic decays, are described. Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, the authors discuss tests of the standard model and measurements of standard model parameters. Possibilities of more extensive tests using measurement of CP violation in the B system are also addressed.

Book excerpt: Using a sample of 471 million B{bar B} events collected with the BABAR detector, we study the sum of seven exclusive final states B → X{sub s(d)[gamma]}, where X{sub s(d)} is a strange (non-strange) hadronic system with a mass of up to 2.0 GeV/c2. After correcting for unobserved decay modes, we obtain a branching fraction for b → d[gamma] of (9.2 ± 2.0(stat.) ± 2.3(syst.)) x 10−6 in this mass range, and a branching fraction for b → s[gamma] of (23.0 ± 0.8(stat.) ± 3.0(syst.)) x 10−5 in the same mass range. We find [Beta](b→d[gamma])/[Beta](b→s{gamma}) = 0.040 ± 0.009(stat.) ± 0.010(syst.), from which we determine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present an analysis of exclusive charmless semileptonic B-meson decays based on 377 million B{bar B} pairs recorded with the BABAR detector at the ? (4S) resonance. We select four event samples corresponding to the decay modes B° → ?−l+?, B+ → ?°l+?, B° → ?−l+?, and B+ → ?°l+?, and find the measured branching fractions to be consistent with isospin symmetry. Assuming isospin symmetry, we combine the two B → ?l? samples, and similarly the two B → ?l? samples, and measure the branching fractions ?(B° → ?−l+?) = (1.41 ± 0.05 ± 0.07) x 10−4 and ?(B° → ?°l+?) = (1.75 ± 0.15 ± 0.27) x 10−4, where the errors are statistical and systematic. We compare the measured distribution in q2, the momentum transfer squared, with predictions for the form factors from QCD calculations and determine the CKM matrix element.

Book Study of Inclusive And Exclusive B X U L Nu Decays And the Measurement of

Download or read book Study of Inclusive And Exclusive B X U L Nu Decays And the Measurement of written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report studies of B → X{sub u}l[nu] decays, based on a sample of 88 million B{bar B} events recorded with the BABAR detector. From both tagged and untagged B{bar B} events we have isolated inclusive charmless decays in kinematic regions for which the dominant background from B → X{sub c}l[nu] is reduced by making requirements on different variables: the electron energy E{sub l}, the momentum transfer q2, and the hadronic mass m{sub X}. Using theoretical calculations we extrapolate to the total decay rate to determine the CKM matrix element.
