Book Study of Double Spin Asymmetries in Inclusive Ep Scattering at Jefferson Lab

Download or read book Study of Double Spin Asymmetries in Inclusive Ep Scattering at Jefferson Lab written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spin structure of the proton has been investigated in the high Bjorken x and low momentum transfer Q^2 region. We used Jefferson Lab's polarized electron beam, a polarized target, and a spectrometer to get both the parallel and perpendicular spin asymmetries Apar and Aperp. These asymmetries produced the physics asymmetries A_1 and A_2 and spin structure functions g_1 and g_2. We found Q^2 dependences of the asymmetries at resonance region and higher-twist effects. Our result increases the available data on the proton spin structure, especially at resonance region with low Q^2. Moreover, A_2 and g_2 data show clear Q^2 evolution, comparing with RSS and SANE-BETA. Negative resonance in A_2 data needs to be examined by theory. It can be an indication of very negative transverse-longitudinal interference contribution at W ~ 1.3 GeV. Higher twist effect appears at the low Q^2 of 1.9 GeV^2, although it is less significant than lower Q^2 data of RSS. Twist03 matrix element d_2 was calculated using our asymmetry fits evaluation at Q^2 - 1.9 GeV^2. D-bar_2 = -0.0087"0.0014 was obtained by integrating 0.47 d"x d"0.87.

This book was released on 2010 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What constitutes the spin of the nucleon? The answer to this question is still not completely understood. Although we know the longitudinal quark spin content very well, the data on the transverse quark spin content of the nucleon is still very sparse. Semi-inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) using transversely polarized targets provide crucial information on this aspect. The data that is currently available was taken with proton and deuteron targets. The E06-010 experiment was performed at Jefferson Lab in Hall-A to measure the single spin asymmetries in the SIDIS reaction n↑(e, e'?±/K±)X using transversely polarized 3He target. The experiment used the continuous electron beam provided by the CEBAF accelerator with a beam energy of 5.9 GeV. Hadrons were detected in a high-resolution spectrometer in coincidence with the scattered electrons detected by the BigBite spectrometer. The kinematic coverage focuses on the valence quark region, x = 0.19 to 0.34, at Q2 = 1.77 to 2.73 (GeV/c)2. This is the first measurement on a neutron target. The data from this experiment, when combined with the world data on the proton and the deuteron, will provide constraints on the transversity and Sivers distribution functions on both the u and d-quarks in the valence region. In this work we report on the single spin asymmetries in the SIDIS n↑(e, e'?+)X reaction.

Book Spin Asymmetries for Exclusive and Semi exclusive Reactions with CLAS

Download or read book Spin Asymmetries for Exclusive and Semi exclusive Reactions with CLAS written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An extensive experimental program to measure the spin structure of the nucleons is being carried out with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab using a longitudinally polarized electron beam incident on a longitudinally polarized target. Spin degrees of freedom offer new tools to explore the baryon structure and test the many theoretical approaches that attempt to characterize it, such as effective Lagrangian models and transverse momentum dependent parton distributions. I will present preliminary results for single and double spin asymmetries for exclusive [pi][sup 0], [pi][sup +], and [eta] electroproduction in the resonance region compared with unitary isobar and dynamical models, as well as [rho] electroproduction for DIS kinematics. I will also report on an analysis of the semi-inclusive and exclusive channels where double and single spin asymmetries were used to study transverse momentum dependent parton distributions.

Book Measurement of Single and Double Spin Asymmetries in Deep Inelastic Pion Electroproduction with a Longitudinally Polarized Target

Download or read book Measurement of Single and Double Spin Asymmetries in Deep Inelastic Pion Electroproduction with a Longitudinally Polarized Target written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report the first measurement of the transverse momentum dependence of double spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive production of pions in deep inelastic scattering off the longitudinally polarized proton. Data have been obtained using a polarized electron beam of 5.7 GeV with the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab). A significant non-zero $\sin2\phi$ single spin asymmetry was also observed for the first time indicating strong spin-orbit correlations for transversely polarized quarks in the longitudinally polarized proton. The azimuthal modulations of single spin asymmetries have been measured over a wide kinematic range.

Book excerpt: Studies of single spin asymmetries for pion electroproduction in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering are presented using the polarized \sim6 GeV electrons from at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab) and the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) with the Inner Calorimeter. The cross section versus the azimuthal angle {\phi}_h of the produced neutral pion has a substantial sin {\phi}_h amplitude. The dependence of this amplitude on Bjorken x_B and on the pion transverse momentum is extracted and compared with published data.

Book Transverse Target Spin Asymmetry in Inclusive DIS with Two photon Exchange

Download or read book Transverse Target Spin Asymmetry in Inclusive DIS with Two photon Exchange written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We study the transverse target spin dependence of the cross section for the inclusive electron-nucleon scattering with unpolarized beam. Such dependence is absent in the one-photon exchange approximation (Christ-Lee theorem) and arises only in higher orders of the QED expansion, from the interference of one-photon and absorptive two-photon exchange amplitudes as well as from real photon emission (bremsstrahlung). We demonstrate that the transverse spin-dependent two-photon exchange cross section is free of QED infrared and collinear divergences. We argue that in DIS kinematics the transverse spin dependence should be governed by a "parton-like" mechanism in which the two-photon exchange couples mainly to a single quark. We calculate the normal spin asymmetry in an approximation where the dominant contribution arises from quark helicity flip due to interactions with non-perturbative vacuum fields (constituent quark picture) and is proportional to the quark transversity distribution in the nucleon. Such helicity-flip processes are not significantly Sudakov-suppressed if the infrared scale for gluon emission in the photon-quark subprocess is of the order of the chiral symmetry breaking scale, mu^2_chiral”Lambda^2_QCD. We estimate the asymmetry in the kinematics of the planned Jefferson Lab Hall A experiment to be of the order 10^-4, with different sign for proton and neutron. We also comment on the spin dependence in the limit of soft high-energy scattering.

Book Single and Double Spin Asymmetries for Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering Measured with CLAS and a Longitudinally Polarized Proton Target

Download or read book Single and Double Spin Asymmetries for Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering Measured with CLAS and a Longitudinally Polarized Proton Target written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Single-beam, single-target, and double-spin asymmetries for hard exclusive photon production on the proton e→p→e'p'[gamma] are presented. The data were taken at Jefferson Lab using the CLAS detector and a longitudinally polarized 14NH3 target. The three asymmetries were measured in 165 4-dimensional kinematic bins, covering the widest kinematic range ever explored simultaneously for beam and target-polarization observables in the valence quark region. The kinematic dependences of the obtained asymmetries are discussed and compared to the predictions of models of Generalized Parton Distributions. As a result, the measurement of three DVCS spin observables at the same kinematic points allows a quasi-model-independent extraction of the imaginary parts of the H and H~ Compton Form Factors, which give insight into the electric and axial charge distributions of valence quarks in the proton.
