Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The compilation of this book originates from my interest in the unique process of vetting, identifying, recognizing and confirmation of Dorje Pawo-tsal of Kirti Monastery as a State protector of the Gadhen Phodrang and Ven. Lobsang Tashi, as its authentic medium by Dharmaraja Nechung, His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama (HHDL), and His Eminence the Eleventh Kirti Rinpoche. In the year 2000, Dorje Pawo-tsal (in the form of Ven. Lobsang Tashi, the medium) came calling in Dharamsala, claiming to have been summoned by Palden Lhamo and Nechung Chogyal, the two principal State protector deities of Tibet. Through a unique process of vetting, Dorje Pawo-tsal was officially promoted and confirmed as a State protector based on various transcendental communications, portents, signs and actual communication with other officiating State oracles like the Nechung, Pehar Gyalpo, Lha-chen Tshangpa, Lhamo Yudron-ma as well as acknowledged masters such as His Eminence the Eleventh Kirti Rinpoche and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Book excerpt: In this sensitive portrayal of human nature, Anita Desai, one of India’s foremost writers, paints an intimate portrait of lives impacted by the quest for identity and purpose. Deven, a Hindi lecturer in small-town Mirpore, lives a humdrum existence. A chance to interview Nur—India’s greatest living Urdu poet—offers him an escape from his dreary life. But the Nur he meets is an enfeebled man, surrounded by clashing wives and preying sycophants. Deven’s decision to be the custodian of Nur’s verse gives birth to an unusual alliance between the two. Stimulating and thought provoking, In Custody is a brilliant parable lamenting the gradual corrosion of culture and tradition in the face of modernity, and a dazzling study of the complexity of human relationships.

Written when he was 14 under the name "Alcyone" and published in 1910, it has been translated into 40 languages. There has been some debate over whether the author was Krishnamurti or his mentor C.W. Leadbeater. Krishnamurti never said that he wrote the work, and in the foreword he says: "These are not my own words but of the Master who taught me." He was referring to Leadbeater's claim that the Master Kuthumi was releasing the instruction to the young boy during the night while he was asleep. The book is considered a theosophical classic.

Book Devyani

  • Publisher : Partridge Publishing
  • Release : 2015-11-17
  • ISBN : 1482859475

Download or read book Devyani written by T.K.B. Sinha and published by Partridge Publishing. This book was released on 2015-11-17 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The traditional view of a mythological character is that it is staid, flat, and uninteresting, belonging to an unreal world of the days gone by. But contrary to this, Devyani, the daughter of a sage, is surprisingly different. She is not only vivacious and enticing but also a tempestuous lover, free-willed, and unyielding. Being a spoilt child, she is in the habit of getting things done at any cost. She makes her father revive her lover Kutch (killed twice by the demons) to life because she says she cant live without him. Unlike most of the present-day girls, she offers herself to the young man to marry her, but at his refusal (for personal reasons), she curses him. When she is rescued by Yayati (a Kshatriya king) from the blind well, into which she had fallen, she asks him to marry her because he had held her by the hand. Yayati is reluctant as they belong to different social strata, where the customs do not allow such wedlock, but she is determined to have her way. She pressures her unwilling father to perform her marriage, which the poor man does despite the unfavorable customs. He cant displease his daughter. She has no qualms about blackmailing the king (in whose court her father was an advisor) to give away his daughter, Sharmistha, as her permanent slave when she goes to her husbands house. The fact that both the girls were bosom friends did not deter her from her meanness. It is surprising to note that such a liberated and strong female character was created in an epic thousands of years ago.

Book Feet Of Clay

  • Author : Anthony Storr
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2015-05-19
  • ISBN : 1501122088
  • Pages : 282 pages

Download or read book Feet Of Clay written by Anthony Storr and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-05-19 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do gurus get their power? Gurus are extraordinary individuals who attract fanatical followers and wield incredible and at times destructive control over them. In this remarkable study, Anthony Storr, the acclaimed author of Solitude and Music and the Mind, examines why we are so enthralled with these dogmatic figures who satisfy our need for certainty. Taking as his examples such diverse figures as Jesus, Sigmund Freud, Ignatius Loyola, and David Koresh, Storr traces the typical patterns—often involving psychotic illness—that shape the guru’s development, and reveals how certain gurus become monsters while others become spiritual beacons.

Book My Research Notes On Viveka Chudamani

Download or read book My Research Notes On Viveka Chudamani written by London Swaminathan and published by Pustaka Digital Media. This book was released on 2024-09-11 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My book titled My Research Notes on Viveka Chudamani is a compilation of 43 articles that I wrote in my blogs recently. It is like a layman’s approach to the Viveka Chudamani, the greatest work of Adi Sankara from a secular angle. Unlike ardent devotees or seekers of God, I read it as a science student in 1994. During my reading the book, I made a lot of marginal notes and scribbled a lot on post it labels. Recently I looked at them and presented in 43 posts in my blogs. Since there is a gap between 1994 and 2024, I added here and there some points from Tamil works. The book is replete with Tamil quotations.
