Download or read book La Cordillera Oriental Colombiana Transecto Sumapaz written by Thomas van der Hammen and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 1066 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication of this volume (volume 7) concludes the publication of the study of the transects of Buritaca (Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta), Parque los Nevados (Central Cordillera), Tatamá (Western Cordillera) and Sumapaz (Eastern Cordillera) in the Colombian Andes. The latter three studies represent a West-East transect through the Colombian Andes, from the Pacific to the Llanos Orientales (Eastern plains) at an approximate latitude of 4° North. With this extensive project the authors aim to provide an integral view of the natural environment of one of the most biologically diverse, and moreover, one of the most beautiful regions of the world, from the tropical lowlands to the snowline.

Book Ecosystem and Species Adaptations in the Andean Amazonian Region

Download or read book Ecosystem and Species Adaptations in the Andean Amazonian Region written by Ana Sabogal and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on ecosystems and species adaptations in the unique Peruvian Andean-Amazonian region. The presence of the Andes as the backbone is the cause of the huge ecosystem diversity and biodiversity of species that characterize the Andean-Amazonian ecosystems. The complex orography of Peru as results of the Andes presence in its tropical setting favors the occurrence of local climatic features that provide diverse environmental conditions for multiple, unique plant and animal species, many of them endemic to the Andes. The book will introduce the reader to the climatic history and geography of the Peruvian Andes and the Peruvian Natural Areas Protection system focusing on the Manu and Northwest biosphere reserves given their relevant ecological importance as well as the relationship between them and the local population. Important global topics like urbanization, deglaciation and global warming will be analyzed and discussed due to their impact in the Andes-Amazon ecosystems. Finally, the traditional land-use systems, agrobiodiversity and agrodiversity in Peru are present and linked with the climate change adaptations.

Book La Cordillera Occidental colombiana transecto Tatam

Download or read book La Cordillera Occidental colombiana transecto Tatam written by Thomas van der Hammen and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 1002 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume 6 of the series Studies on Tropical Andean Ecosystems, contains the results of the Colombian Western Cordillera around latitude 5° N. The fieldwork was realized in 1983. The transect consists of two parts, the first between 500 m and 2150 m altitude located slightly South of 5° N, at the latitude of San José del Palmar, and the other slightly North of 5° N, at the latitude of Santuario and the Tatamá massif, between 2150 and 4200 m altitude. The total transect was therefore named: "The Tatamá transect". P.S. In this volume we included some chapters that contain studies of several colleagues in other paramos of the Western Cordillera: Frontino, Farallones de Cali and El Duende. We consider these an important contribution to the knowledge of the area.

Book High Altitude Tropical Biogeography

Download or read book High Altitude Tropical Biogeography written by François Vuilleumier and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High Altitude Tropical Biogeography provides research workers and academics with a comprehensive overview of the biogeography of high tropical mountains, covering the origin, ecology, and evolution of plants and animals of this unique ecological zone. The climate in the high altitude mountain regions of the tropics is cold, resulting in flora and fauna which more closely resemble their counterparts thousand of miles to the north or south than comparable species in the lowland jungles only a few thousand meters below. These ecological "islands", besides being very important to the economies of the tropics, pose interesting questions of physiological adaptation, biogeography, and evolutionary relationships. With contributions from twenty-four international specialists who have devoted years to the study of cold mountain tropics, this book describes some of the most characteristic plant and animal components of the ecosystem. No other book of this scope and content exists on these tropical biotas.
