Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 29 (thesis year 1984) a total of 12,637 theses titles from 23 Canadian and 202 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 29 reports theses submitted in 1984, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Numerical Simulation of the Hydrodynamic Behavior of a Gas solid Fluidized Bed with and Without an Electric Field

Download or read book Numerical Simulation of the Hydrodynamic Behavior of a Gas solid Fluidized Bed with and Without an Electric Field written by Forhad Md Hossain and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this investigation is to numerically predict the effect of an electric field on a two-dimensional gas-solid fluidized bed. The particles in the bed are taken to be of a uniform size and density forming the particulate phase with a gas (air) taken as the continuum phase. A hydrodynamic model of fluidization utilizes the principles of conservation of mass and momentum describing the multiphase flow equations along with the constitutive equations of gas-solid drag and solids stress. A two-dimensional unsteady-state computer code (K-Fix) was used to observe the effect of an electric field on the gas and solid velocities and the void fraction and pressure in the bed. Special case studies included that of a jet, a bubble, and two bubbles, with and without an electric field.

Book Multiphase Flow and Fluidization

Download or read book Multiphase Flow and Fluidization written by Dimitri Gidaspow and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Useful as a reference for engineers in industry and as an advanced level text for graduate engineering students, Multiphase Flow and Fluidization takes the reader beyond the theoretical to demonstrate how multiphase flow equations can be used to provide applied, practical, predictive solutions to industrial fluidization problems. Written to help advance progress in the emerging science of multiphase flow, this book begins with the development of the conservation laws and moves on through kinetic theory, clarifying many physical concepts (such as particulate viscosity and solids pressure) and introducing the new dependent variable--the volume fraction of the dispersed phase. Exercises at the end of each chapterare provided for further study and lead into applications not covered in the text itself. - Treats fluidization as a branch of transport phenomena - Demonstrates how to do transient, multidimensional simulation of multiphase processes - The first book to apply kinetic theory to flow of particulates - Is the only book to discuss numerical stability of multiphase equations and whether or not such equations are well-posed - Explains the origin of bubbles and the concept of critical granular flow - Presents clearly written exercises at the end of each chapter to facilitate understanding and further study

Book Studies on Fluidization Behavior of Spouted Bed and Mathematical Modeling

Download or read book Studies on Fluidization Behavior of Spouted Bed and Mathematical Modeling written by and published by . This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluidization behavior of spouted bed for a gas-solid system has been studied by carrying out a number of experiments in a cylindrical Perspex column of 5cm diameter and 100cm height. Different system parameters investigated are particle size, initial static bed height, material density, spout velocity and spout diameter. Spout velocity was calculated with the available literature. Attempt has been made to develop correlations for the bed expansion/fluctuation ratio and the fluidization index of the system on the basis of dimensionless analysis approach. The behavior of the spouted bed was also tried to be analysed by DEM - odeling in which the governing equation of force balance has been descretized by finite element central difference method. The calculated values of the fluidization index and bed expansion ratio have been compared with the experimentally observed values. It was observed that the calculated values of the fluidization index and bed expansion ratio by both the methods (i.e. DEM and Dimensionless analysis) agree with the experimental values in most of the cases with little or negligible deviation implying the developed models to be of great importance in reality.

Book The Effect of Particle Size on the Properties of Gas fluidized Beds

Download or read book The Effect of Particle Size on the Properties of Gas fluidized Beds written by K. S. Sutherland and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of a continuous method for determining changes in particle size and particle size distribution in fluid-bed systems has been studied experimentally. Differential pressure measurements were employed to study the effects of solid particle size on the behavior of gas-fluidized beds. The relevant bed properties are briefly described and a review given of previous work on the study of fluidized-bed quality. It is shown that, within certain limitations, measurements of bed quality can be used to indicate changes in particle size. Gas-bubble velocities, while increasing in proportion to the square root of bubble diameter, are also shown to be dependent on particle size, increasing as the particle size decreases.

Book Hydrodynamics of a Gas solid Fluidized Bed at High Temperature in the Presence of Interparticles Forces

Download or read book Hydrodynamics of a Gas solid Fluidized Bed at High Temperature in the Presence of Interparticles Forces written by Jaber Shabanian and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to a lack of proper measurement techniques at elevated temperatures, we approached this study by dividing it into two parts. The first part was aimed at exploring the fluidization behavior of a gas-solid fluidized bed at different levels of IPFs from global and local points of view. The second part focused on the hydrodynamic characterization of a gas-solid fluidized bed at high temperature while different levels of IPFs were deliberately introduced into a bed of otherwise fresh coarse particles. Book Elementary Introduction to Spatial and Temporal Fractals

Download or read book Elementary Introduction to Spatial and Temporal Fractals written by L.T. Fan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fractals play an important role in modeling natural phenomena and engineering processes. And fractals have a close connection to the concepts of chaotic dynamics. This monograph presents definitions, concepts, notions and methodologies of both spatial and temporal fractals. It addresses students and researchers in chemistry and in chemical engineering. The authors present the concepts and methodologies in sufficient detail for uninitiated readers. They include many simple examples and graphical illustrations. They outline some examples in more detail: Perimeter fractal dimension of char particles, surface fractal dimension of charcoal; fractal analysis of pressure fluctuation in multiphase flow systems. Readers who master the concepts in this book, can confidently apply them to their fields of interest.
