Book The Effect of Concentration on Diffusion Coefficients in Binary Systems

Download or read book The Effect of Concentration on Diffusion Coefficients in Binary Systems written by Kumbla Narasimha Srinivas Prabhu and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diffusion coefficients were determined for the chloroform-air system at 50°C and for the methanol-air system at 55°C by the Arnold cell technique. The effect of concentration was studied by varying the concentration of the gas stream passing across the top of the Arnold cell. The chloroform-air system exhibited a strong dependency on concentration; for this system the diffusion coefficient changed by approximately ten percent as the chloroform concentration in the gas stream was changed from zero to 56 percent. The variation of the diffusion coefficient in the methanol-air system was small; a total variation of one percent was observed over the concentration range of zero to 46 percent methanol. Since the variation of diffusion coefficient for methanol-air system was of the order of one percent, assumption of constancy of diffusion coefficient with concentration would cause little error in design calculations; hence, no correlation was attempted for the methanol-air system. However attempts were made to correlate the concentration dependency of diffusion coefficients in the chloro form-air system. It was found that a quadratic functional relationship in concentration for the diffusion coefficients was the best possible correlation. A quadratic function in weight fraction was used to account for the effect of molecular weight differences. It was concluded that the difference in molecular weight of the two diffusing species has a pronounced effect on the variation of diffusion coefficients with concentration.

Book A Determination of Diffusion Coefficients for Gaseous Systems at Various Temperatures

Download or read book A Determination of Diffusion Coefficients for Gaseous Systems at Various Temperatures written by Roger A. Strehlow and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transport property which is most fundamentally related to forces between unlike molecules is the ordinary diffusion due to concentration gradients. Unfortunately, this property and its dependence upon temperature have not been systematically studied experimentally, with the result that the literature does not contain the data necessary to obtain good force constants for the introduction of unlike molecuels. The present work describes an experimental method for determining diffusion coefficients, based on the variation of thermal conductivity with composition in binary mixtures which is capable of being used over a wide range of temperature. Experimental results for the systems n-butane-hydrogen, sulfur hexafluoride-hydrogen, argon-hydrogen, and argon-helium are given for a temperature range from 10°C. to 140°C.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Molecular Sieves - Science and Technology" covers, in a comprehensive manner, the science and technology of zeolites and all related microporous and mesoporous materials. The contributions are grouped together topically in such a way that each volume deals with a specific sub-field. Volume 7 treats fundamentals and analyses of adsorption and diffusion in zeolites including single-file diffusion. Various methods of measuring adsorption and diffusion are described and discussed.

Book Catalytic Reactors

Download or read book Catalytic Reactors written by Basudeb Saha and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2015-12-18 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catalytic Reactors presents several key aspects of reactor design in Chemical and Process Engineering. Starting with the fundamental science across a broad interdisciplinary field, this graduate level textbook offers a concise overview on reactor and process design for students, scientists and practitioners new to the field. This book aims to collate into a comprehensive and well-informed work of leading researchers from north America, western Europe and south-east Asia. The editor and international experts discuss state-of-the-art applications of multifunctional reactors, biocatalytic membrane reactors, micro-flow reactors, industrial catalytic reactors, micro trickle bed reactors and multiphase catalytic reactors. The use of catalytic reactor technology is essential for the economic viability of the chemical manufacturing industry. The importance of Chemical and Process Engineering and efficient design of reactors are another focus of the book. Especially the combination of advantages from both catalysis and chemical reaction technology for optimization and intensification as essential factors in the future development of reactors and processes are discussed. Furthermore, options that can drastically influence reaction processes, e.g. choice of catalysts, alternative reaction pathways, mass and heat transfer effects, flow regimes and inherent design of catalytic reactors are reviewed in detail. Focuses on the state-of-the-art applications of catalytic reactors and optimization in the design and operation of industrial catalytic reactors Insights into transfer of knowledge from laboratory science to industry For students and researchers in Chemical and Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Catalysis and practising Engineers

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic and bestselling landmark publication, originally published in 1965, examines the dynamic mechanisms, fundamental principles, and physical properties of various chromatographic procedures. It offers methods to characterize, identify, and predict chromatographic phenomena - providing strategies to select the most appropriate separation tools and techniques for specific applications in chemistry, physics, biology, and forensic and environmental science. Written by a world-renowned pioneer in the field, Dynamics of Chromatography contains many worked equations and real-world examples in gas and liquid chromatography. It includes numerous schematic figures for visualization of key concepts, introduces the means to control migration rate differences and zone spreading, and presents a detailed random-walk model for clarification of column processes. It also analyzes flow, diffusion, and kinetic events, stresses the link between theory and practice, and summarizes mathematical quantities and parameters.
