Book Sound Insulation in Buildings

Download or read book Sound Insulation in Buildings written by Jens Holger Rindel and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book explains sound insulation in buildings at a level suitable for both graduate students and expert consultants. Theoretical models are set out for sound transmission in buildings, with an emphasis on thick and heavy constructions. Thus, the description is not restrained by the common assumption of bending waves which is characteristic of thin plates, only. A general description is provided, with the modal density in the structures as a key parameter. At low frequencies statistical energy analysis is replaced by modal energy analysis. Sound transmission through windows and facades is represented by a model that allows any angle on incidence, including the special case of grazing incidence. One chapter is devoted to the subjective evaluation of sound insulation, particularly noise from neighbours, and how this can be applied in a sound classification scheme for dwellings. Measurement methods in building acoustics are presented with emphasis on modern methods using MLS signals or sine sweeps. The analysis and estimation of measurement uncertainty is discussed in detail. In a final chapter examples of experimental buildings with high sound insulation are explained.

Book Sound Control in Buildings

Download or read book Sound Control in Buildings written by M. W. Simons and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unwanted noise can be a significant nuisance in buildings, particularly dwellings. Part E of the Building Regulations for England and Wales has therefore introduced substantially improved standards for noise control and stringent new requirements for the testing of completed buildings. This new book explains the regulations in detail and provides recommendations for good design and construction. It explains those aspects of sound transmission necessary for an understanding of Part E of the Regulations.

Book Architectural Acoustics

Download or read book Architectural Acoustics written by Marshall Long and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-02-05 with total page 985 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architectural Acoustics, Second Edition presents a thorough technical overview of the discipline, from basic concepts to specific design advice. Beginning with a brief history, it reviews the fundamentals of acoustics, human perception and reaction to sound, acoustic noise measurements, noise metrics, and environmental noise characterization. In-depth treatment is given to the theoretical principles and practical applications of wave acoustics, sound transmission, vibration and vibration isolation, and noise transmission in floors and mechanical systems. Chapters on specific design problems demonstrate how to apply the theory, including treatment of multifamily dwellings, office buildings, rooms for speech, rooms for music, multipurpose rooms, auditoriums, sanctuaries, studios, listening rooms, and the design of sound reinforcement systems. Detailed figures illustrate the practical applications of acoustic principles, showing how to implement design ideas in actual structures. This compendium of theoretical and practical design information brings the relevant concepts, equations, techniques, and specific design problems together in one place, including both fundamentals and more advanced material. Practicing engineers will find it an invaluable reference for their daily work, while advanced students will appreciate its rigorous treatment of the basic building blocks of acoustical theory. Considered the most complete resource in the field – includes basic fundamental relations, derived from first principles, and examples needed to solve real engineering problems. Provides a well-organized text for students first approaching the subject as well as a reliable reference for experienced practitioners looking to refresh their technical knowledge base. New content for developing professionals includes case studies and coverage of specific focus areas such as audio visual design, theaters, and concert halls.

Book Collected Papers in Building Acoustics

Download or read book Collected Papers in Building Acoustics written by Barry Gibbs and published by Multi-Science Publishing Company. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a collection of papers on the measurement, prediction and control of sound transmission. It is in five sections: sound transmission in buildings; measurement methods, sources of sound and vibration, vibration isolation, lightweight building structures. The range of topics included cannot be exhaustive, because of the book page limit, but the editors believe the papers reflect important interests and concerns of contributors and readers. The relationship between the subjective and objective assessment of noise and of building performance remains an important topic. The requirement for acceptable sound insulation in lightweight buildings is even more urgent, with increasing use of timber-frame and timber composites. More sophisticated methods are required for the specification and design of vibration isolation for control of noise and vibration from external sources (rail, underground) and also internal sources in modern mechanically serviced spaces. There is a requirement for estimates of the uncertainty of measurement and prediction of sound insulation. This book brings together, for the first time in one set of covers, twenty five papers on the subject, a convenient corpus of knowledge. The book will be of interest to practising civil and construction engineers, as well as to researchers working in the specific area of building acoustics and related disciplines. The editors are members of the Acoustics Research Unit at the University of Liverpool.
