Book excerpt: The papers contained in this volume reflect the ingenuity and originality of experimental work in the areas of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and thermodynamics. The contributors are drawn from 27 countries which indicates how well the worldwide scientific community is networked. The papers cover a broad spectrum from the experimental investigation of complex fundamental physical phenomena to the study of practical devices and applications. A uniform outline and method of presentation has been used for each paper.

Book Nonsteady Flame Propagation

Download or read book Nonsteady Flame Propagation written by George H. Markstein and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-12-02 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonsteady Flame Propagation provides information pertinent to flame propagation in gaseous media. This book focuses on linearized treatments and the comparison of their results with experimental observations. Organized into nine chapters, this book begins with an overview of the challenge of nonlinear problems and examines the essentially nonlinear character of the flame phenomena, which has been artificially suppressed in analyses by the use of linearized perturbation treatments. This text then summarizes the development regarding rocket-shaped burners. Other chapters consider the advantages as well as the limitations of linearized analyses. This book discusses as well a general treatment of the discontinuous-flame-front model and summarizes the results of studies of burner that use secondary air. The final chapter deals with re-examining the possibilities of using pulsating combustion in propulsion or in other applications. This book is a valuable resource for chemical engineers, chemists, scientists, and research workers.

Book Applied Combustion Diagnostics

Download or read book Applied Combustion Diagnostics written by KoHse-HoingHaus and published by Taylor & Francis US. This book was released on 2002-04-26 with total page 748 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The editors have assembled a world-class group of contributors who address the questions the combustion diagnostic community faces. They are chemists who identify the species to be measured and the interfering substances that may be present; physicists, who push the limits of laser spectroscopy and laser devices and who conceive suitable measurement schemes; and engineers, who know combustion systems and processes. This book assists in providing guidance for the planning of combustion experiments, in judging research strategies and in conceiving new ideas for combustion research. It provides a snapshot of the available diagnostic methods and thier typical applications from the perspective of leading experts in the field.

Book Analysis of Turbulent Flow and Heat Transfer on a Flat Plate at High Mach Numbers with Variable Fluid Properties

Download or read book Analysis of Turbulent Flow and Heat Transfer on a Flat Plate at High Mach Numbers with Variable Fluid Properties written by Robert G. Deissler and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A previous analysis of turbulent heat transfer and flow with variable fluid properties in smooth passages is extended to flow over a flat plate at high Mach numbers. Velocity and temperature distributions are calculated for a boundary layer in which the effects of both frictional heating and external heat transfer are appreciable. The viscosity and thermal conductivity are assumed to vary as a power of the temperature, while the Prandtl number and specific heat are taken as constant. Skin-friction and heat-transfer coefficients are calculated and compared with the incompressible values. The relation between boundary-layer thickness and distance along the plate is obtained for various Mach numbers. The analytical results are compared with representative experimental data.

Book High Temperatures in Aeronautics

Download or read book High Temperatures in Aeronautics written by Carlo Ferrari and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High Temperatures in Aeronautics is a compilation of the proceedings of the Symposium on High Temperatures in Aeronautics held in Turin, Italy, on September 10-12, 1962. The symposium provided a forum to discuss the applications of high temperatures in aeronautics and covers topics ranging from supersonic combustion to non-equilibrium flow through a nozzle, along with similarity parameters in radiation gas-dynamics and photoionization upstream of a strong shock wave. This volume is comprised of 17 chapters and begins with an overview of the effects and consequences of high temperature in aeronautics, followed by an analysis of experimental results for the dissociation of diatomic gases. A theoretical and experimental investigation of mixing and supersonic combustion is then presented, focusing on inviscid flow fields with a finite rate chemistry for a hydrogen-air reaction. Turbulent mixing for flows with large density gradients having no chemical reaction is also considered, and the results of experiments in supersonic combustion are discussed. Subsequent chapters deal with silicon nitride, its properties, and its potential use at elevated temperatures; materials problems at high temperature; and the corrosion of refractory alloys by oil ash containing vanadium. This monograph will be of interest to students, engineers, and experimental workers in the fields of astronautics and aeronautical engineering.

Book A Study of the Mechanism of Flame Stabilization on Gas Dynamic Screens

Download or read book A Study of the Mechanism of Flame Stabilization on Gas Dynamic Screens written by V. A. Kosterin and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results are presented from an experimental study of the mechanism of flame stabilization in the flow of a uniform combustible mixture on a fan stream, or a combustible mixture which forms a unique gas dynamic barrier in the exhaust stream with the development of a circulatory flow in the wake. The study is focused on the physico-chemical structure of the zone of interaction of the stream with the flow at stages close to and far from the disruption. Based on the analysis of the occurrence of a flame disruption, the authors introduce criteria of flame stabilization which satisfy the generalized limit of stable combustion. The object of the experiments was an axisymmetric flame stabilizer with a 15-mm tube diameter, an aperture width of 0.8 mm, and an outlet stream angle of 135 degrees. The stabilizer was set up at the outlet of a tube 150 mm in diameter, such that the crown was located in the center of the stream. The results of the tests are summarized in the establishment of stability conditions and in an illustrated discussion of the combustion and flow process. (Author).
