Book The Adsorption of Polar Organic Compounds on Freshly Machined Metal Surfaces

Download or read book The Adsorption of Polar Organic Compounds on Freshly Machined Metal Surfaces written by Gopadi Srinivasa Hatwar and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies of the adsorption of polar organic com pounds on freshly machined surfaces, were con tinued. Adsorption of nonadecanol from cyclohex ane solution was not observed under the condi tions and concentrations used. Studies with un saturated acids indicate that the adsorption on freshly machined metal surfaces is concentration dependent and there is polylayer formation. The extent of polylayer formation increases as the number of double bonds increases. Metals such as Cu, Mg, Pb, and Al were used in the above study. Adsorption of calcium nonadecanoate on metal sur faces is physical in nature, following type II or IV adsorption isotherms at lower pressures. At traction between the metal surface and the adsor bate is due to dipole-induced dipole interactions. There is no metal-ion exchange. Factors that de crease ac of the fresh metal surfaces de crease the extent of adsorption. None of the metals employed gave a full monolayer coverage with calcium nonadecanoate, and adsorption de pended on concentration.

Book Chemisorption And Reactions On Metallic Films V2

Download or read book Chemisorption And Reactions On Metallic Films V2 written by J Anderson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemisorption and Reactions on Metallic Films, Volume 2 is a four-chapter text that describes the role of evaporated metal films in advancing the understanding of the metal-gas interface chemistry and in understanding of adsorption and catalysis at metal surfaces. This volume first describes film structure and properties, particularly of random polycrystalline films, as well as the concepts of the adsorption and kinetic phenomena. The topic is followed by an overview of the main classes of catalytic reactions that have been studied over evaporated metal film catalysts. A chapter explores the preparation, characterization, structure, and surface properties of alloy films. The theory of the oxidation of metals and the advantages and disadvantages of using thin metal films in oxidation work are considered in the concluding chapter, along with a brief discussion on their use in kinetic and mechanistic studies. Research scientists and graduate students who are interested in the fundamentals of adsorption and catalysis will find this volume invaluable.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the changes occurring at surfaces and interfaces involving two or multi-phase system due to the interaction between surface atoms/molecules and those added either intentionally or inadvertently in form of gases (vapours) solvents (aqueous and nonaqueous) and solutions mostly of surface active agents. A clear picture of the mechanism involved in industrial processes, namely, lubrication, adhesion, wear, friction, maintenance engineering, surface coating, metallurgical operation in production of iron and steel, corrosion prevention, mineral beneficiation including recovery of fine coal from slurries from coal washeries, tertiary oil recovery etc. are provided.

Book The Dynamics of Adsorption on Clean and Adsorbate modified Transition Metal Surfaces

Download or read book The Dynamics of Adsorption on Clean and Adsorbate modified Transition Metal Surfaces written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research is being carried out on both nondissociative and dissociative adsorption of gases on transition metal surfaces, with emphasis on alkanes. Particular attention is be placed on understanding the effects of adsorbed species on adsorption probabilities and on clarifying the role of energy exchange processes at the surface in both dissociative and nondissociative adsorption. Molecular beam methods are coupled with methods of surface science to gain the greatest control of the variables of the problem, including the incident kinetic energy, vibrational energy and angle of incidence of the incoming molecules. The dynamics of both direct and precursor-influenced dissociative adsorption routes are examined. Surface intermediates formed by activated adsorption are identified by vibrational spectroscopy and temperature programmed reaction. Emphasis is on comparative studies of low molecular weight alkanes in order to understand the origin of the differences in their reactivities on different metals.
