However, the absolute cross section of the 0 (d,p)0 reaction was found to be so small as to discourage this. It was necessary to determine the angular distributions of C (d,p)C and C (d,p)C from a natural carbon target in order to get a measure of the angular distribution of 0 (d,p)0 since the C contamination swamped the peak from the 0 ground state. The absolute cross sections of C^^(d,p)C^^ and C^^(d,p)C^^ and 0^^(d,p)0^^ were subsequently measured at bombarding energies of 1 and 1.5 Mev for comparison purposes. The angular distribution of 0 (d,n)F was also measured at a bombarding energy of 3.5 Mev for comparison with the 0 (d,p)0 reaction.
