Book Photochemistry in Microheterogeneous Systems

Download or read book Photochemistry in Microheterogeneous Systems written by K Kalyanasundaram and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photochemistry in Microheterogeneous Systems provides an introduction to the subject of photochemistry in microheterogeneous systems. Emphasis is on the unimolecular and bimolecular reactions of electronically excited molecules in non-homogeneous media, as well as the application of photophysical and photochemical processes and techniques to the study of various microheterogeneous systems of chemical and biological interest, from normal and inverted micelles to vesicles and liposomes, monolayers, black lipid membranes, and liquid crystalline solvents. This monograph is comprised of 10 chapters and begins with an overview of microheterogeneous systems; excited-state processes and reactions; photochemistry in microheterogeneous systems; and structural and dynamical aspects of micellar aggregates. The discussion then turns to micellar photophysics and photochemistry, with emphasis on singlet-state and triplet-state reactions. Subsequent chapters focus on photoprocesses in a variety of microheterogeneous systems such as reversed micelles, microemulsions, lipids, surfactant vesicles, and liposomes; polymers, polyelectrolytes, and ion-exchange membranes; and molecular inclusion complexes. The final chapter is devoted to the photochemistry of molecules in the adsorbed state. This text is intended for graduate students and practicing chemists.

Book Advanced Aspects of Spectroscopy

Download or read book Advanced Aspects of Spectroscopy written by Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-08-29 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spectroscopy is the study of absorption and emission of electromagnetic radiation due to the interaction between matter and energy that energy depends on the specific wavelength of electromagnetic radiation. This field has proven invaluable research tool in a number of areas including chemistry, physics, biology, medicine and ecology. The spectroscopic field of research is growing day-by-day and scientists are exploring new areas in this field by introducing new techniques. The main purpose of this book is to highlight these new spectroscopic techniques like Magnetic Induction Spectroscopy, Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Low Energy Electron Loss Spectroscopy, Micro- to Macro-Raman Spectroscopy, Liquid-Immersion Raman Spectroscopy, High-Resolution Magic Angle Spinning (HR-MAS) Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy, Injection and Optical Spectroscopy, and Nano Spectroscopy. This book is divided into five sections including General Spectroscopy, Advanced Spectroscopy, Nano Spectroscopy, Organic Spectroscopy, and Physical Spectroscopy which cover topics from basic to advanced levels which will provide a good source of learning for teaching and research purposes.

Book Generation of Singlet Molecular Oxygen in Solutions of Benzo A Pyrene and Its Oxygenated Derivatives

Download or read book Generation of Singlet Molecular Oxygen in Solutions of Benzo A Pyrene and Its Oxygenated Derivatives written by Nareh Ghevondian and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The potential roles of singlet molecular oxygen O2 ( 1Deltag) chemistry in the lower atmosphere have been studied for decades. Singlet molecular oxygen is very reactive and has the potential to oxidize organic compounds containing pi-systems, including alkenes. Investigating the role of O2 (1Deltag) oxidation in polluted urban atmospheres is significant because these systems contain high concentrations of organic compounds, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are products of incomplete combustion processes. Degradation of the PAH results in formation of toxic derivatives such as nitro-PAHs, hydroxylated PAHs and oxy-PAHs. This study aimed to address the following objectives 1. study the structural-dependence of oxygenated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in generating the singlet molecular oxygen O2 ( 1Deltag) and rank their efficiency in producing O 2 (1Deltag); 2. analyze the lifetime of singlet molecular oxygen in different solvents; and 3. investigate the solvent effect on quantum yield of singlet molecular oxygen. We investigated characteristics of benzo[a]pyrene and a series of its oxy-PAH derivative; BaP-1,6-dione, BaP-6,12-dione, BaP-3,6-dione and BaP-4,5-dione in solvents with wide ranges of polarities. The photodegradation experiments illustrate that B[a]P and its oxygenated derivatives are efficient sensitizers for singlet oxygen production as they have high singlet oxygen quantum yields. Additionally, Benzo[a]pyrene-4,5-dione-the most polar compound in these series- showed a different behavior in polar solvents, exhibiting quantum yields higher than 1.
