Book Studies of Particle Size Distribution in Fluidized Beds

Download or read book Studies of Particle Size Distribution in Fluidized Beds written by H. M. Katz and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A technique for the study of distribution of particle sizes in fluidized beds consisting of two particle sizes has been devised, and data have been obtained for a number of such systems. It has been shown that both static electricity in the bed and surface absorption of moisture affect the particle size distribution. Experimental data indicate that the effects of these variables can be eliminated by use of a conducting column of conducting particles and the use of dry air for fluidization. In addition, a qualitative relationship between minimum fluidizing velocity for mixed particle sizes and pressure drop across the bed has been demonstrated.

Book The Effect of Particle Size on the Properties of Gas fluidized Beds

Download or read book The Effect of Particle Size on the Properties of Gas fluidized Beds written by K. S. Sutherland and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of a continuous method for determining changes in particle size and particle size distribution in fluid-bed systems has been studied experimentally. Differential pressure measurements were employed to study the effects of solid particle size on the behavior of gas-fluidized beds. The relevant bed properties are briefly described and a review given of previous work on the study of fluidized-bed quality. It is shown that, within certain limitations, measurements of bed quality can be used to indicate changes in particle size. Gas-bubble velocities, while increasing in proportion to the square root of bubble diameter, are also shown to be dependent on particle size, increasing as the particle size decreases.

Book Fluidized Bed Reactors Processes and Operating Conditions

Download or read book Fluidized Bed Reactors Processes and Operating Conditions written by John G. Yates and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-27 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fluidized-bed reactor is the centerpiece of industrial fluidization processes. This book focuses on the design and operation of fluidized beds in many different industrial processes, emphasizing the rationale for choosing fluidized beds for each particular process. The book starts with a brief history of fluidization from its inception in the 1940’s. The authors present both the fluid dynamics of gas-solid fluidized beds and the extensive experimental studies of operating systems and they set them in the context of operating processes that use fluid-bed reactors. Chemical engineering students and postdocs as well as practicing engineers will find great interest in this book.

Book Multiphase Flow and Fluidization

Download or read book Multiphase Flow and Fluidization written by Dimitri Gidaspow and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Useful as a reference for engineers in industry and as an advanced level text for graduate engineering students, Multiphase Flow and Fluidization takes the reader beyond the theoretical to demonstrate how multiphase flow equations can be used to provide applied, practical, predictive solutions to industrial fluidization problems. Written to help advance progress in the emerging science of multiphase flow, this book begins with the development of the conservation laws and moves on through kinetic theory, clarifying many physical concepts (such as particulate viscosity and solids pressure) and introducing the new dependent variable--the volume fraction of the dispersed phase. Exercises at the end of each chapterare provided for further study and lead into applications not covered in the text itself. - Treats fluidization as a branch of transport phenomena - Demonstrates how to do transient, multidimensional simulation of multiphase processes - The first book to apply kinetic theory to flow of particulates - Is the only book to discuss numerical stability of multiphase equations and whether or not such equations are well-posed - Explains the origin of bubbles and the concept of critical granular flow - Presents clearly written exercises at the end of each chapter to facilitate understanding and further study

Book A Determination of Particle Density Distributions Above Fluidized Beds

Download or read book A Determination of Particle Density Distributions Above Fluidized Beds written by Glenn Alvah Piper and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental apparatus to measure the particle density distribution in the freeboard of an atmospheric fluidized bed was designed and constructed. The density versus height measured by the sampling apparatus gives a similar exponential decrease as previous investigations have found. A particle trajectory model is developed which calculates the height and particle density distributions above the bed surface of an atmospheric fluidized bed. The parameters input to the model are the superficial velocity, initial particle velocity, gas jet velocity and duration, and the particle size distribution of the bed mass. The model was evaluated using the experimental data for jet velocity, duration, and particle size. The predicted slope of the particle density versus height in the freeboard agrees with the experimentally measured slope within 20%. A sensitivity analysis, using the trajectory model, resulted in a determination of the particle distributions in the freeboard of a fluidized bed as affected by varying the input parameters to the trajectory model. The most significant effects were achieved when the jet velocity or duration was altered. (Theses).

Book Fluid Dynamics of Turbulent Fluidized Beds for Geldart s Group B Particles

Download or read book Fluid Dynamics of Turbulent Fluidized Beds for Geldart s Group B Particles written by Tom Wytrwat and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2022-02-15 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An in-depth experimental study of the fluid dynamics of turbulent fluidized beds with particles of Geldart’s Group B was carried out. For this purpose, fluidization behavior was investigated in different fluidized bed plants having diameters in the range of 0.05 m to 1 m. Pressure fluctuation analysis has been used as an identification tool for the turbulent fluidized bed regime. Different fluidization conditions have been investigated by variation of the fluidized bed properties, the bed material properties, and the gas properties. Based on the measured data, a correlation predicting the transition velocity from bubbling to turbulent fluidization is introduced. To investigate the local flow structure, capacitance probe measurements have been carried out. Using this measurement technique, local solids concentrations and properties of rising bubbles have been determined and analyzed. Finally, an empiric fluid dynamic model was developed using the local measurement data. It is mainly based on capacitance probe measurements and shows high accuracy in comparison to pressure data.
