Book Receptor Binding Radiotracers 1982

Download or read book Receptor Binding Radiotracers 1982 written by William C. Eckelman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series of books on Radiotracers in Biology and Medicine is on the one hand an unbelievably expansive enterprise and on the other hand, a most noble one as well. Tools to probe biology have developed at an accelerating rate. Hevesy pioneered the application of radioisotopes to the study of chemical processes, and since that time radioisotopic methodology has probably contributed as much as any other methodology to the analysis of the fine structure of biologic systems. Radioisotopic methodologies represent powerful tools for the determination of virtually any process of biologic interest. It should not be surprising, therefore, that any effort to encompass all aspects of radiotracer methodology is both desirable in the extreme and doomed to at least some degree of inherent failure. The current series is assuredly a success relative to the breadth of topics which range from in depth treatise of fundamental science or abstract concepts to detailed and specific applications, such as those medicine or even to the extreme of the methodology for sacrifice of anaimals as part of a radiotracer distribution study.

Book Animal Models in Radiotracer Design

Download or read book Animal Models in Radiotracer Design written by Richard M. Lambrecht and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The editors have asked me to write this foreword probably for two reasons: First, I have spent 35 years trying to develop radiolabeled compounds that would help diagnose and treat disease. I, and the people from my laboratory, have been much involved with developing Nan'I for the diagnosis and treatment of hyperthyroidism and well-differentiated thyroid cancer. Second, I was a participant throughout the entire symposium upon which this book is based. Our latest '311-labeled compound, [l3lll metaiodobenzylguanidine, took us 13 years to develop. It has succeeded in diagnosing and treating adrenergic tumors '31 under circumstances where Na 1 would have failed for the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer. I therefore hope that more scientists will be attracted to this field. This book is written by intelligent, experienced investigators who are knowl edgeable. It is a must for anyone new in the field. For the experienced, I would like to remind you that I attended the entire symposium; the breadth and timeliness of the update has helped us to redirect some of our current efforts into more scientifically productive channels. Book Radioiodination Theory Practice and Biomedical Applications

Download or read book Radioiodination Theory Practice and Biomedical Applications written by Mrinal K. Dewanjee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the readily available -emitting radionuclides, the nuclides of iodine have the greatest versatility in labeling both the hydrophilic and the lipophilic compounds that are used in biology and medicine. Biologically important micrmolecules, semimacromolecules, and macromolecules have been identified which, after iodination, almost maintain the same molecular configuration and similar biologic specificity as those of the parent molecules. The multiple techniques for iodination and the clinical use of iodinated products have made possible the present status of the development of diagnostic nuclear medicine. 125r, with a half-life of 60 days, has a crucial role in competitive protein-binding studies. 131r is useful for measuring thyroid uptake, for the diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma and metastasis, and for therapy. 1nr , with a reasonably shorter half-life, is almost ideal for thyroid workup and for a few useful labeled radiopharmaceutical. Although ~c is used more widely in diagnostic procedures, the radionuclides of iodine will always have a major role in biology and medicine. A considerable amount of information is scattered in the literature regarding the chemistry of radioiodination and the mechanism of tracer localization in cells and tissues. Labeled peptides, proteins, and antibodies are extensively used for protein turnover studies, receptor binding and tumor imaging studies, and radioimmunoassay. The general trend in the use of tracers in clinical nuclear medicine has been an evolution from 3H, 14C, 11C, and 13 to 125 , 131 and 123r to ~c and 111rn.

  • Author : Eberhard Löhr
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 364271207X
  • Pages : 438 pages

Download or read book Renal and Adrenal Tumors written by Eberhard Löhr and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the positive response which followed the first edition of this book 6 years ago, the editors were encouraged to prepare a completely reworked second edition that includes the modern advances in this field. There has been a complete change of diagnostic procedure in the detection of renal tumors, which is now based on sonography, computed tomography, and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, pushing intravenous urography and angiography completely into the background. Also, new methods of treat ment with radionuclides using embolisation are incorporated. The description of morphological structures forms the basis for under standing and recognising pathology of the kidneys and adrenals. The con tents of pathological morphology could be extended, as we are of the opinion that the detection and therapy of renal and adrenal tumors are derived from different areas of diagnostic science. We are indebted to Springer-Verlag for the excellent book production. On behalf of all the authors, we would like to thank our colleagues and associates for their cooperation in the realisation of this project. The editors hope that this volume will be of interest to radiologists, pa thologists, urologists, pediatrists, and also radiotherapists.
