Download or read book Oscillations and Waves written by Nail R. Sibgatullin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-12-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an updated and modified translation of the Russian edition of 1984. In the present edition, certain sections have been abridged (in particular, Sects. 6.1 and 8.3) and the bibliography has been expanded. There are more detailed discus sions of the group properties of integrable systems of equations of mathematical physics (Sect. 3.4) and of the Riemannian problem in the context of the infinite dimensional internal symmetry groups of these systems of equations. There is an extended discussion of the reasons for the acceleration and retardation of pulsars in connection with more recent achievements of X-ray astronomy. Part of the material of Chap. 8 of the Russian edition has been included in Chap. 7; thus the number of chapters has been reduced to seven. S. Chandrasekhar set for me an example of brilliant analytical penetration into the essence of physical problems, and my book touches on his work in many in stances. The results of modem quantum theories of strong fields are not presented, but they can be found in the fundamental monographs Quantwn Electrodynamics of Strong Fields by W. Greiner, B. Muller, J. Rafelski (Sprioger-Verlag, Berlin, Heidelberg, New York 1985) and Quantwn Effects in Intense External Fields [in Russian] by A. Grib, S. Mamaev, W. Mostepanenko (Energoatomizdat, Moscow 1988). This book was translated by Dr. N. M. Queen; I am very grateful to him. I thank sincerely H. Latta, C.-D. Bachem, V. Rehman, S. von Kalckreuth for preparing of the english manuscript.

Book Environmental Radiation Measurements

Download or read book Environmental Radiation Measurements written by National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements and published by Ncrp. This book was released on 1976 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In recent years, the need for accurate, reliable and interpretable measurements of environmental radiation and radioactivity has increased steadily. Such requirements as the assessment of exposure to man from natural and manmade sources, the evaluation of compliance with governmental regulations, knowledge of the movement and retention of manmade radionuclides due to man's use of such materials, and the investigation of geological processes and atmospheric phenomena have all contributed to this need. This report presents a unified and systematic consideration of environmental radiation measurements, especially with respect to the identification and characterization of smalll radiation fields and small concentrations of specific radionuclides, and the even smaller variations or changes in them. The role of measurements in the realistic assessment of dose to man through critical pathways is emphasized, serving as an introduction to the detailed discussions on sampling and sample analysis for radioactivity. Finally, the future needs and uses of environmental measurements, of new instrumentation, and of improved interpretations of the results are presented." --From Preface, page iii.

Book I Will Survive

Download or read book I Will Survive written by Gloria Gaynor and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2014-03-11 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I Will Survive is the story of Gloria Gaynor, America's "Queen of Disco." It is the story of riches and fame, despair, and finally salvation. Her meteoric rise to stardom in the mid-1970s was nothing short of phenomenal, and hits poured forth that pushed her to the top of the charts, including "Honey Bee," "I Got You Under My Skin," "Never Can Say Goodbye," and the song that has immortalized her, "I Will Survive," which became a #1 international gold seller. With that song, Gloria heralded the international rise of disco that became synonymous with a way of life in the fast lane - the sweaty bodies at Studio 54, the lines of cocaine, the indescribable feeling that you could always be at the top of your game and never come down. But down she came after her early stardom, and problems followed in the wake, including the death of her mother, whose love had anchored the young singer, as well as constant battles with weight, drugs, and alcohol. While her fans always imagined her to be rich, her personal finances collapsed due to poor management; and while many envied her, she felt completely empty inside. In the early 1980s, sustained by her marriage to music publisher Linwood Simon, Gloria took three years off and reflected upon her life. She visited churches and revisited her mother's old Bible. Discovering the world of gospel, she made a commitment to Christ that sustains her to this day.

Book Magnesium science Technology and Applications

Download or read book Magnesium science Technology and Applications written by Wei Ke and published by Trans Tech Publications. This book was released on 2005 with total page 982 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Magnesium, with its very rich reserves within the Earth, is an important engineering material, but has not yet been fully developed and utilized. Given its low density, magnesium has a higher specific strength and stiffness than many other engineering materials: including aluminum, steel and polymer-based composites. Magnesium also offers other attractive properties: such as a high damping capacity, electromagnetic shielding, dimensional stability, and good machinability and recyclability. As a relatively new structural material, magnesium and its alloys have demonstrated a significant potential for applications in many industries: including automobile, 3C (computer, communication and consumer) products, transportation, power-tools/equipment and new energy sources.
