Book Studies in Terrestrial Magnetism Classic Reprint

Download or read book Studies in Terrestrial Magnetism Classic Reprint written by C. Chree and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Studies in Terrestrial Magnetism A short statement seems desirable as to the object of the present book. The volume does not aim at being a text-book of Terrestrial Magnetism, or at summarising existing knowledge in those branches of Terrestrial Magnetism with which it deals, but is intended to give a connected account of my own original work in that subject, referring to the work of others only so far as is necessary for intelligibility. It is hoped that other investigators will understand that the absence of reference to their work implies no lack of appreciation of its value. Again, while I have worked at several of the more important branches of Terrestrial Magnetism, there are other branches which I have scarcely touched on, if at all. The subject of Terrestrial Magnetism is very large and ever-increasing; and the contributions made to it by any one individual must form but a small fraction of the whole. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Magnetism: General and Terrestrial The account which the author has given of the principal results obtained in recent years in connexion with the variations of terrestrial magnetism, will, he trusts, serve the same purpose; while, at the same time, it presents the general scientific reader with a condensed summary of the leading facts of the science. As it would have been impossible to give in a mode rate compass the numerical representation of the laws deduced at all the cc-operating observatories, the course pursued has been to present the results oh tained at a single station, at which all the general features of the phenomena belonging to the middle northern latitudes were fully developed, and to sup plement the information by the results of observation at places widely removed from the former in geogra phical position, as well as in their relation to the sun's daily and yearly courses. The single station selected for this purpose is Dublin, partly because it fulfils the condition above described, and partly, also, because the reductions have been there made according to me thoda which appear to the author himself to be the most suitable. Book Land Magnetic Observations

Download or read book Land Magnetic Observations written by L. A. Bauer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-16 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Land Magnetic Observations: 1905-1910 The Department of Research in Terrestrial Magnetism was founded on April 1, 1904, one of its special objects being the acquirement of the necessary data for a general magnetic survey of the globe. The chief endeavor is to secure magnetic results in the regions where most needed and where there are no organizations prepared to undertake the work. Where magnetic surveys are in progress under competent direction and where the prospects for early completion are favorable, the Department confines its work to the Observations necessary for the proper correlation of results obtained with different instruments and by different methods and renders such assistance to organizations as may be required. While the Department has been able to extend special aid at times to certain organizations, in order that their object might be effectively and expeditiously carried out, it is a pleasure to record and gratefully acknowledge here the cordial and valuable aid it has itself received from magnetic institutions in all parts of the world, as well as from the governmental and diplomatic representatives of the countries visited. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Terrestrial Magnetism: Results of Magnetic Observations Made by the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1914 In 1882 the results of magnetic observations made by this bureau prior to 1881, together with descriptions of stations, were published as Appendix 9, Report for 1881. From that time to 1902 the results were published only in connection with a discussion of the distribution or secular change of one or more of the three magnetic elements. In Magnetic Declination Tables and Isogonic Charts for 1902 declination results were given for all stations occupied up to that time and descriptions were given of the stations occupied subsequent to 1881. From 1903 to 1911 there has'been published annually an appendix to the Superintendent's report, giving the results of magnetic observations made during the fiscal year (july to June) covered by the report. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Terrestrial Magnetism: Results of Magnetic Observations Made by the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1919 When in 1912 it was decided to confine the annual report of the Superintendent to administrative matters and to publish separately the scientific results which had formerly appeared as appendixes to to the report, the time was deemed opportune to change from the fiscal year to the calendar year in the publication of the results of magnetic observations in the field. Accordingly Special Publication N o. 15 contained the results of observations made between July 1, 1911, and December 31, 1912, and the results for subsequent calendar years have appeared in Special Publications N os. 20, 25, 36, 42, 51, and 55.
