Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this manual is to teach you how to examine yourself biblically so you can live in a manner that pleases the Lord and help others to do the same. The material in this manual also has been used in Bible studies for youth and adults, classes for Christian students (junior high, high school, college, and seminary level), courses of study designed to prepare missionaries for their ministry, evangelism training, discipleship training in prison ministries, Sunday school classes, home group studies, personal devotional studies, and Scripture memorization programs. In addition, it has proved valuable as a resource for pastors, counselors, health care professionals, personnel managers, educators, social workers and other professionals who are responsible to deal with personal and interpersonal problems. As you progress through this manual, you will discover many other uses for this material in your life and personal ministry. Please do not be intimidated by the volume of Scripture references contained in this manual. A new believer in Jesus Christ can find great comfort and help from looking up only one verse out of many that are listed on a particular subject. On the other hand, the Bible scholar or seminary student may desire to research many of the Scripture references from the original languages of the Bible. No matter how proficient you are in using Scripture, this manual encourages you to rely on the Word of God to discover God’s sufficiency for every aspect of your life.

Book Acquisition and Retention of Cross cultural Interaction Skills Through Self confrontation

Download or read book Acquisition and Retention of Cross cultural Interaction Skills Through Self confrontation written by Herbert T. Eachus and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experiment was conducted to assess relative effectiveness of two techniques for training United States Air Force military advisors in cross- cultural communicative skills. Retention of skills over time and effects of attitude on learning were also studied. A scenario required subjects to play the role of an Air Force Captain who had to interact in specified ways with a 'foreign counterpart, ' a role played by a confederate of the experimenters. Subjects were to perform 57 distinct behaviors appropriate to the situation and to the fictitious cultural description, which gave either a positive, negative, or neutral impression of the culture. Sixty-six male subjects were divided into two groups and taught the desired behaviors either by extensive reading of training manuals followed by three role-playing sessions or by less reading but with self-confrontation by a videotape replay between successive role-play trials. Subjects returned and performed the same role again either 1 day, 1 week, or 2 weeks following initial training. Self-confrontation proved superior to manual reading in training the desired behaviors. Subjects with positive attitudes toward the culture learned fastest. Retention of skills learned through self-confrontation was high. A discussion of planned future research on cross-cultural training techniques and programs is given.

Book Handling Verbal Confrontation

Download or read book Handling Verbal Confrontation written by Robert Vincent Gerard and published by Oughten House Foundation, Inc.. This book was released on 1999 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major inadequacies of our culture is our inability to verbally confront one another. It kills interpersonal relationships. It is a time bomb within families. It causes low productivity, stress, headaches, and increases our consumption of alcohol, and drugs. Very few even recognize it as a problem, and even fewer know what to do about it. Why? Because we were never taught how to confront properly and effectively. But, our success depends on these skills. The Art of Handling Verbal Confrontation guides the reader in how to approach, verbally address issues, and face others successfully, without fear. These skills belong to the inner tactical strategy of facing yourself, facing the issue, and facing the other person. It is a key to spiritual empowerment.

Book Consciousness and Self Regulation

Download or read book Consciousness and Self Regulation written by Gary Schwartz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first and foremost concrete fact which every one will affirm to belong to his inner experience is the fact that consciousness of some sort goes on. I -William James, 1893 We are witnessing today a mounting interest among behavioral and biological scientists in problems long recognized as central to our understanding of human nature, yet until recently considered out of the bounds of scientific psychology and physiology. Sometimes thrown into the heading of "altered states of consciousness," this growing research bears directly upon such time-honored questions as the nature of conscious experience, the mind-body relationship, and volition. If one broadly views this research as encompassing the two interrelated areas of consciousness and self-regulation, one can find many relevant contemporary examples of creative and experimentally sophisticated approaches, including research on the regulation of perception and sensory experience, attention, imagery and thinking, emotion and pain; hypnosis and meditation; biofeedback and volun tary control; hemispheric asymmetry and specialization of brain func tion; drug-induced subjective states; and biological rhythms. Because the material is spread over many different kinds of publications and disciplines, it is difficult for anyone person to keep fully abreast of the significant advances. The overall aim of the new Plenum Series in Consciousness and Self-Regulation: Advances in Research is to provide a scholarly forum for discussing integration of these diverse areas by presenting some of the best current research and theory.

Book Confronting Prejudice and Discrimination

Download or read book Confronting Prejudice and Discrimination written by Robyn K. Mallett and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2019-03-09 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Confronting Prejudice and Discrimination: The Science of Changing Minds and Behaviors focuses on confrontation as a strategy for reducing bias and discrimination. The volume tackles questions that people face when they wish to confront bias: What factors influence people’s decisions to confront or ignore bias in its various forms? What are the motives and consequences of confrontation? How can confrontation be approached individually, through education and empowerment, and in specific contexts (e.g., health care) to yield favourable outcomes? These questions are paramount in contemporary society, where confrontation of bias is increasingly evident. Moreover, great strides in the scientific study of confrontation in the past 20 years has yielded valuable insights and answers. This volume is an essential resource for students and researchers with an interest in prejudice and prejudice reduction, and will also be valuable to non-academics who wish to stand up to bias through confrontation. Addresses factors that determine individuals’ decisions to confront stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination Analyzes how personal and collective motives shape responses in confrontation-relevant situations Examines the consequences of confrontation from the perspectives of targets, perpetrators and bystanders Provides a roadmap for how to prepare for and engage in successful confrontations at the individual level Covers confronting bias in various settings including in schools, health care, the workplace and on the internet Discusses confrontation in the context of racism, sexism, sexual harassment and other forms of bias, including intersectional forms of bias
