Book Advanced Mycology And Plant Pathology

Download or read book Advanced Mycology And Plant Pathology written by Dr. Sanjay Kharte and published by Academic Guru Publishing House. This book was released on 2023-10-10 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past three decades, plant pathology—a major subfield of agriculture and horticulture—has grown and matured into a distinct field unto itself. As pathologists and educators, we appreciate the opportunity to finally meet a long-standing demand for a comprehensive introduction to plant pathology. This book will be especially helpful for the young, aspiring brains of aspiring plant pathologists since it presents the basics of fungus, classifications, and concepts of plant pathology in a condensed style that is accessible to undergrads. Plants can only flourish within the typical limits of light, temperature, and pH, as well as the soil & nutrition and water content. However, plants may and do get ill. The development and utility of plants may be stunted by even the smallest disturbances in their health. The most prevalent reasons of decreased or eliminated plant growth and output include plant diseases, bad weather, and insect pests. Plants are susceptible to disease whose etiological agents are comparable to those that harm animals and people. There is no proof that plants sense pain and anguish, but the progression of sickness in plants is the same as in animals and humans, and it is generally just as complicated.

Book Plant Pathology and Plant Diseases

Download or read book Plant Pathology and Plant Diseases written by Dr. Mayur Arun Dongre and published by AG PUBLISHING HOUSE (AGPH Books). This book was released on 2023-02-14 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most important subfields of agriculture and horticulture, plant pathology, has grown and taken on new dimensions during the last three decades. Fulfilling the long-felt need of pathologists and students for comprehensive book on fundamentals of plant pathology is a source of great joy and happiness for us. This book will undoubtedly be useful for the young, asporing, budding plant pathology imaginations to take up subject with confidence because it presents the fundamentals of fungi, bacteria, viruses, classifications, and principles of the plant pathology in a condensed form that is easily understood by undergradure students. Plant pathology is study of the living things and environmental factors that cause disease in plants, mechanisms through which these factors cause disease in plants, interactions between the disease-causing agents and diseased plant, and the methods for preventing disease, mitigating its effects, or controlling disease either before it develops in a plant. Most plant diseases are caused by biotic organisms. The most prevalent plant diseases include those caused by fungus, bacteria, phytoplasmas, viruses, viroids, nematodes, and parasitic higher plants. Abiotic disorders are triggered by factors other than infectious ones. Disorders may be caused by a wide variety of factors, including but not limited to: temperature and moisture extremes, light and nutrition extremes, bad soil, pesticide and pollution exposure, severe winds and hail, and poor cultural practises. The damage produced by insect assaults and competition from noxious plants (weeds) are other problems they face. Plant pathology studies often do not include plant damage from humans, other animals, or insects.

Book A Text Book of Mycology and Plant Pathology Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Text Book of Mycology and Plant Pathology Classic Reprint written by John W. Harshberger and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-08 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of Mycology and Plant Pathology This book is the outcome of twenty-seven years' experience, as a teacher of botany, during which fifteen years have been given to a graduate course on the morphology, classification and physiology of the fungi, and five years to a course which combined with this consideration a parallel study of the most important cultural and inoculation methods used by the practical bacteriologist and mycologist at the present day. The English and Germans have led in the production of text-books on mycology and pathology; Berkeley, Smith, Cooke and Massee in England, Frank, Sorauer, von Tubeuf and Kuster in Germany. Americans have been behind in this important field, notwithstanding, that American plants harbor some of the most destructive fungi, which, through our careless methods of agriculture and horticulture up to the present, are annually destructive to the extent of millions of dollars. This lack is being rapidly remedied and the appearance of text-books by Duggar, Stevens, Hall and Stevens, Mel T. Cook and general monographs by Erwin T. Smith, and others, augurs well for the future of this line of literary and scientific labor. The bacteriologists have led and mycologists should follow. The following pages represent in a much extended form the lectures and laboratory exercises given by the author before his botanic classes at the University of Pennsylvania, and before public audiences elsewhere, especially, Farmers' Institutes with which he has had three years' experience as a lecturer in Pennsylvania. The arrangement of the text has been suggested by the needs of the classroom and from an acquaintance with similar work in other colleges and universities in America. It is hoped that the book and the suggestions, as to teaching which it contains, will appeal to those responsible for similar courses. The keys are given with the anticipation that they will prove useful to the student and teacher who desire exercises in the classification of the fungi: The illustrations have been chosen with care, and credit is given in all cases for those borrowed from other books and monographs. Book An Introduction to Fungi 4th Ed

Download or read book An Introduction to Fungi 4th Ed written by H.C. Dube and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2013-08-01 with total page 618 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with fungi, deftly defined as “the organisms studied by mycologists”. The fungi are now placed under three kingdoms: Fungi, Protozoa and Chromista/Straminopila due to their phylogenetic heterogeneity. In the last decade, world wide research projects: the “Deep Hypha” and AFTOL (Assembling the Fungal Tree of Life), have provided a phylogenetic classification based on genetic relatedness as evidenced by DNA sequencing data. The ‘Eumycotan fungi’, the ‘Protozoan fungi’ and the ‘Chromistan fungi’ represent distinct monophyletic groups. i.e. each group has a common ancestor and all are its descendants. The classification offered by above mega research projects and accepted by Dictionary of Fungi (2008) and leading international journals, forms the basis of this book. There are many surprises: Fungi and Animalia together form a monophyletic group. But there is no common name for them, and are called as “sister groups”. The mycologists would discover emergence of a new world of ‘modern mycology’ gleaned from recent publications. The book starts with History of Mycology remembering Louis Pasteur’s famous quote “History of science is science itself”. There are 31 chapters describing the form and function of fungi. Their symbiotic associations, chemical activities, secondary metabolites, mycotoxins, heterothallism, parasexuality and sex hormones are described under exclusive chapters. Each chapter is followed by a ‘summary’, and ‘test questions’. The book will be indispensable for students of botany, microbiology, plant pathology and medical mycology.

Book Pictorial Atlas of Soilborne Fungal Plant Pathogens and Diseases

Download or read book Pictorial Atlas of Soilborne Fungal Plant Pathogens and Diseases written by Tsuneo Watanabe and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-19 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pictorial Atlas of Soilborne Fungal Plant Pathogens and Diseases describes the soilborne fungal diseases caused by Oomycetes, Zygomycetes, Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes, and Deuteromycetous (Anamorphic) fungi. Soilborne fungal diseases are significant as both environmental and agricultural problems, yet it is difficult to understand the ecology of pathogenic fungi and its effective control. This book provides very detailed information on many of the commonly and not so commonly encountered groups of soilborne fungi diseases. It will be a useful reference for those teaching and conducting research in mycology, plant pathology, soilborne plant diseases, and the ecology of fungal communities.
