Book Gynecology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Gynecology Classic Reprint written by William P. Graves and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-14 with total page 888 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Gynecology Part II is designed primarily for the undergraduate student who is taking his initial course in gynecology. It includes a description of those diseases which are essentially gynecologic, and is thus isolated in a somewhat compact form in order that the student may not be confronted by _a too formidable array of facts in his collateral reading and in his preparation for his final examination in the subject. In order to accomplish this purpose certain encumbering details have been subordinated. Thus, in the description of each disease, the underlying pathologic processes are enumerated. Microscopic detail, however, can better be learned from pictures than from tedious descriptions. For that reason' draw ings from microscopic sections illustrating the respective diseases are presented under each subject with full descriptive legends appended to them. In like manner the surgical principles involved in the treatment of the various dis eases are recounted, but the technic of the operations and the pictures illustrating their performance, matters of secondary interest to the student of the theory of gynecology, are reserved for a separate section. Part III is devoted exclusively to the technic of gynecologic surgery and is written for the assistance of the advanced student and practitioner. Surgical devices for the cure of gynecologic diseases are innumerable, and it is impossible to include them all in a book of this scope. Only those operations which from the personal experience or judgment of the author seem best suited for the special requirements are presented. Many excellent procedures have, there fore, been unavoidably omitted. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Some of the lectures have previously appeared in print. They were stenographically reported and, later, edited. In the process of editing the writer has introduced from his records illustrative cases which were not presented in the clinic whenever by so doing it was possible better to emphasize the subject under consideration. It will be noted that nearly all the subjects dealt with are border-land subj ects, and should, therefore, interest the internist as well as the surgeon. This book was released on 2016-08-19 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Obstetric and Gynecologic Nursing Obstetric nursing is that branch of the art of caring for the sick which includes the nursing of the mother during pregnancy, parturition, and the puerperal state, and also the care of her child. It demands some knowledge of natural pregnancy and of the signs of accidents and diseases which may occur during pregnancy. It also requires knowledge and ex perience ih the care of the patient during the labor and during her complete recovery, with the needs of her child. The obstetric nurse must also know how to help patient and doctor in the accidents and complications of labor, and has an important part to play in caring for mother and child in the diseases which occasionally attack them during the puerperal period. As wounds occur during labor, and as operations must often be performed during or immediately after labor, a thorough knowledge and drill in asepsis and antisepsis are absolutely indispensable. Book Gynecological and Obstetrical Monographs Classic Reprint

Download or read book Gynecological and Obstetrical Monographs Classic Reprint written by Frank Worthington Lynch and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Gynecological and Obstetrical Monographs In this volume, the authors have attempted to present the important features of pelvic neoplasms from data obtained by a critical survey of the literature and from personal observations. Since malignant tumors form a large proportion of these pelvic new-growths, their early symptoms, appearance and diagnosis have been emphasized. As long as the etiology and prophylactic measures for cancer remain unknown, this emphasis appears merited. It has been our aim to make the monograph of practical value and considerable space has been given to treatment. In the years which have elapsed since the preparation of a similar volume, the advantages and disadvantages of surgical treatment of malignant pelvic tumors have been definitely ascertained. Radium, on the contrary, is a relatively recent addition to our therapeutic armamentarium. While conclusions as to its usefulness and value in comparison with surgery may not be definitely drawn, we must not overlook its possibilities. We have, therefore, devoted considerable space to this subject. Theoretical discussions have been included only to clarify the subject matter or to indicate various avenues for scientific research. The authors acknowledge with gratitude the aid afforded by Dr. Margaret Schulze, amounting nearly to co-authorship, in review of the literature and the preparation of the chapter on Mammoth Ovarian Tumors; to Dr. Howard Kelly for his generous permission to use many drawings which have illuminated his own texts; and to Miss Elizabeth Coats for preparation of the manuscript. They also acknowledge their appreciation of the drawings of Mr. Ralph Sweet, who made the original sketches from material in the Gynecological Laboratory of the University of California Medical School. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A System of Gynaecology: With Three Hundred and Ninety-Three Illustrations; A Translation From the French Now antisepsis has triumphantly overcome all opposition all our instructors teach it, and the younger generation practice it with in Spired fervor. We are as well armed for the strife as our neighbors. Let us profit by their experience, and avoid the operative excesses into which some have too often fallen. In view of these tendencies, which, it is to be feared, have some times caused the sacrifice of a careful clinical study of the disease, and a close and exact determination of the diagnosis and prognosis to the exaltation of immediate results, it seems to me that a definite role falls naturally to the lot of French gynecology. Let it accept with out qualification the bold and useful inventions of foreign origin, but let it exercise a more solicitous surveillance over what is in reality the highest part of our art, an exact interpretation of indications. There will then be no missing link in the chain of [its records, and its future will be worthy of its glorious past. My endeavor has been, as far as possible, to present an exact state ment Of the present condition of science in all countries, without giv ing a cumbersome mass of detail. For that reason I have abstained from dwelling at any length upon historical data preceding the anti septic period, although I have not neglected any occasion to assert any just claims of priority on the part of operators, without regard to nationality.
