Download or read book Determination of PH written by Roger Gordon Bates and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In portraying the rise and fall, in eighteenth century Ireland and England, of Barry Lyndon - an adventurer-gambler, a cad and a romantic idealist - Kubrick departs from Thackeray's picaresque novel in scope and tone. The first person narrator of the novel gives way in the film to the third person who assumes a good deal of the storytelling function, adding to the sense of detachment and abstraction typical of Kubrick. The way that this film polarised the critics suggests that it may hold a key to his oeuvre. Enervating pictorialism or a stately meditation upon the trappings of cultural ritual that we call civilisation? The painterly tableaux suggest the 'otherness' of a past era - a world as alien as that of 2001 - in a way matched by few other period films.

Download or read book Handbook of Water Analysis Third Edition written by Leo M.L. Nollet and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-07-29 with total page 999 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extensively revised and updated, Handbook of Water Analysis, Third Edition provides current analytical techniques for detecting various compounds in water samples. Maintaining the detailed and accessible style of the previous editions, this third edition demonstrates water sampling and preservation methods by enumerating different ways to measure chemical and radiological characteristics. It gives step-by-step descriptions of separation, residue determination, and clean-up techniques. See What’s New in the Second Edition: Includes five new chapters covering ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, and petroleum hydrocarbons, as well as organoleptical and algal analysis methodology Compares older methods still frequently used with recently developed protocols, and examines future trends Features a new section regarding organoleptical analysis of water acknowledging that ultimately the consumers of drinking water have the final vote over its quality with respect to odor, flavor, and color The book covers the physical, chemical, and other relevant properties of various substances found in water. It then describes the sampling, cleanup, extraction, and derivatization procedures, and concludes with detection methods. Illustrated with procedure flow charts and schematics, the text includes numerous tables categorizing methods according to type of component, origin of the water sample, parameters and procedures used, and application range. With contributions from international experts, the book guides you through the entire scientific investigation starting with a sampling strategy designed to capture the real-world situation as closely as possible, and ending with an adequate chemometrical and statistical treatment of the acquired data. By organizing data into more than 300 tables, graphs, and charts, and supplementing the text with equations and illustrations, the editors distill a wealth of knowledge into a single accessible reference.

Download or read book Electrochemistry written by Harold Reginald Thirsk and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 1974 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued.

Download or read book Working with Ion Selective Electrodes written by K. Cammann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first section introduces the electrochemical nomenclature necessary for under standing the literature on ion-selective electrodes and discusses the general principles behind all electrodes. The second section is concerned with the problems which arise in any accurate elec trode potential measurement in practice. Here the most important reference electrodes are discussed with special reference to their use in conjunction with ion-selective elec trodes. From experience, almost 75% of all problems which arise when working with ion-selective electrodes are on account of the reference electrode. After the reader is aquainted with the basic problems involved, the third section deals with individual ion-selective electrodes; their properties, handling and methods of pre paration. Here the discussion of these electrodes is not arranged according to the spe cies detected, but rather according to the kind of construction, since from this view point characteristic properties are much the same and handling procedures need only be described once for an entire series of similar electrodes. The fourth section discusses amplifiers. Here the problems of high-ohmic EMF meas urements such as noise level, insulation, static charging and ground loops are discussed. The fifth section is devoted to the various evaluation methods. Here a few schemes and examples are provided to indicate optimum practical procedures and the accura cies attainable with the various methods are discussed. The last section describes special set-ups such as clinical flow-thru cells, microelec trodes for measuring intracellular ionic activities, industrial on-line techniques and continuous environmental protection monitors.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Advanced Potentiometry" details the accurate calculation of potentiometric titrations. Additional terms such as the ideal diffusion potential together with the contribution of activity factors furnish calculated stability constants which do not include systematic errors and thus present a complete and correct description of equilibrium processes. Moreover, serious systematic errors resulting from the recent use of curve-fitting computer programs are highlighted later in the text. "Advanced Potentiometry" can advantageously be used by lecturers, researchers, PhD graduates and undergraduate students working in the fields of Solution Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry and Environmental Research.

Download or read book Chemical Reactions in Solvents and Melts written by G. Charlot and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical Reactions in Solvents and Melts discusses the use of organic and inorganic compounds as well as of melts as solvents. This book examines the applications in organic and inorganic chemistry as well as in electrochemistry. Organized into two parts encompassing 15 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the general properties and the different types of reactions, including acid–base reactions, complex formation reactions, and oxidation–reduction reactions. This text then describes the properties of inert and active solvents. Other chapters consider the proton transfer reactions in polar solvents as well as the transfer of other ions. This book discusses as well the solubility in a number of solvents by the formation of different bonds between the solute and the solvent molecule. The final chapter deals with the general characteristics of the oxidation–reduction reactions of melts. This book is a valuable resource for chemists, students, and researchers.
