Book excerpt: Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Book Studies of Cerebral Function in Learning

Download or read book Studies of Cerebral Function in Learning written by Karl S 1890-1958 Lashley and published by Legare Street Press. This book was released on 2023-07-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A groundbreaking study of the brain and its role in learning and memory, by one of the pioneers in the field of cognitive neuroscience. Lashley's experiments on rats are now considered classic examples of the methods used to investigate brain function. This book provides fascinating insights into the early days of the study of the brain. Book Studies of Cerebral Function in Learning Vol 9

Download or read book Studies of Cerebral Function in Learning Vol 9 written by Karl Spencer Lashley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-16 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Studies of Cerebral Function in Learning, Vol. 9: Mass Action in Relation to the Number of Elements in the Problem to Be Learned All of the studies dealing with quantitative effects of cere bral lesions have dealt with lesions which were made as nearly as possible symmetrical on the two hemispheres. Data on the critical areas for pattern vision (lashley, '31) and unpublished data on maze retention after removal Of one hemisphere indicate that somewhat different results are to be anticipated when the lesions are markedly asymmetrical. Book excerpt: The Cerebellum and Cognition pulls together a preeminent group of authors. The cerebellum has been previously considered as a highly complex structure involved only with motor control. The cerebellum is essential to nonmotor functions, and recent research has revealed new medically important roles of the cerebellum and cognitive processes. Selected for inclusion in Doody's Core Titles 2013, an essential collection development tool for health sciences libraries Comprehensive coverage of cerebellum in motor control and cognition New developments regarding the cerebellum and motor systems Therapeutic implications of cerebellar contributions to cognition Preeminent group of contributors

Download or read book Modeling Brain Function written by D. J. Amit and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most exciting and potentially rewarding areas of scientific research is the study of the principles and mechanisms underlying brain function. It is also of great promise to future generations of computers. A growing group of researchers, adapting knowledge and techniques from a wide range of scientific disciplines, have made substantial progress understanding memory, the learning process, and self organization by studying the properties of models of neural networks - idealized systems containing very large numbers of connected neurons, whose interactions give rise to the special qualities of the brain. This book introduces and explains the techniques brought from physics to the study of neural networks and the insights they have stimulated. It is written at a level accessible to the wide range of researchers working on these problems - statistical physicists, biologists, computer scientists, computer technologists and cognitive psychologists. The author presents a coherent and clear nonmechanical presentation of all the basic ideas and results. More technical aspects are restricted, wherever possible, to special sections and appendices in each chapter. The book is suitable as a text for graduate courses in physics, electrical engineering, computer science and biology.

Book The Linguistic Cerebellum

Download or read book The Linguistic Cerebellum written by Peter Mariën and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2015-09-07 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Linguistic Cerebellum provides a comprehensive analysis of this unique part of the brain that has the most number of neurons, each operating in distinct networks to perform diverse functions. This book outlines how those distinct networks operate in relation to non-motor language skills. Coverage includes cerebellar anatomy and function in relation to speech perception, speech planning, verbal fluency, grammar processing, and reading and writing, along with a discussion of language disorders. Discusses the neurobiology of cerebellar language functions, encompassing both normal language function and language disorders Includes speech perception, processing, and planning Contains cerebellar function in reading and writing Explores how language networks give insight to function elsewhere in the brain

Book The Parietal Cortex of Monkey and Man

Download or read book The Parietal Cortex of Monkey and Man written by J. Hyvärinen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An invitation from the Editors to contribute to 'Studies of Brain Functions' with a monograph on the parietal lobe of fers me an opportunity to present in a concentrated form my studies on this part of the brain from a period of some what over a decade. The parietal lobe, notably its posterior part, is a very complex neural system whose functions I have been able to study only superficially and without ex tensive coverage of all its parts. Therefore I did not want to limit myself entirely to my own work but found the task of writing more interesti'ng by including sections reviewing rel evant literature. Thus Chapter III dealing with the primary somatosensory cortex and Chapters IX, X, and XI concerning area 7 describe work done in my laboratory. Chapter VIII describes microelectrode work on area 7 and covers both the work of my group and that of others working on this area. Chapters II and IV to VII are based on closely related anatomical, physiological and clinical studies performed by others, and Chapter XII is a personal attempt at a synthesis of the functions of the parietal lobe. Thus this monograph is neither a strict review of all important works on the parietal lobe nor is it limited only to my own studies and those of my collaborators. Instead it attempts to be a balanced ex position of both aspects promoting, hopefully, a synthetic view of the primate parietal lobe.
