Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2015 passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) has again changed education for public schools and communities. Common Core is now optional and the role of Secretary of Education has been limited by no longer incentivizing states, as done under Common Core. This book analyzes the new direction today’s schools must pursue for student learning and their success beyond high school. States and local educational agencies are once again empowered and will have more authority over curriculum and assessment. Common Sense Education includes samples from these states, ideas from several universities which are retooling their teacher education programs and focusing on teacher excellence, as well as schools recalibrating their programs for student learning. This book advocates for common sense education, uses a national survey to provide parent and teacher perspectives, and suggests a new paradigm for exciting twenty-first century high schools.

Book Fuzzy Model Identification

    Book Details:
  • Author : Hans Hellendoorn
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3642607675
  • Pages : 334 pages

Download or read book Fuzzy Model Identification written by Hans Hellendoorn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past few years two principally different approaches to the design of fuzzy controllers have emerged: heuristics-based design and model-based design. The main motivation for the heuristics-based design is given by the fact that many industrial processes are still controlled in one of the following two ways: - The process is controlled manually by an experienced operator. - The process is controlled by an automatic control system which needs manual, on-line 'trimming' of its parameters by an experienced operator. In both cases it is enough to translate in terms of a set of fuzzy if-then rules the operator's manual control algorithm or manual on-line 'trimming' strategy in order to obtain an equally good, or even better, wholly automatic fuzzy control system. This implies that the design of a fuzzy controller can only be done after a manual control algorithm or trimming strategy exists. It is admitted in the literature on fuzzy control that the heuristics-based approach to the design of fuzzy controllers is very difficult to apply to multiple-inputjmultiple-output control problems which represent the largest part of challenging industrial process control applications. Furthermore, the heuristics-based design lacks systematic and formally verifiable tuning tech niques. Also, studies of the stability, performance, and robustness of a closed loop system incorporating a heuristics-based fuzzy controller can only be done via extensive simulations.

Book Physics of the Plasma Universe

Download or read book Physics of the Plasma Universe written by Anthony L. Peratt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade our understanding of plasma physics has witnessed an explosive growth due to research in two areas: work directed toward controlled nuclear fusion and work in space physics. This book addresses the growing need to apply these complementary discoveries to astrophysics. Today plasma is recognized as the key element to understanding the generation of magnetic fields in planets, stars and galaxies, the accel- eration and transport of cosmic rays, and many other phenomena occurring in interstellar space, in radio galaxies, stellar atmospheres, quasars, and so forth.

Book Cell and Molecular Biology of Artemia Development

Download or read book Cell and Molecular Biology of Artemia Development written by A. Warner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The brine shrimp Artemia has become an important experimental system for studies of the developmental process. In recent years the shrimp has yielded considerable information on the pattern of development, bio chemistry, and gene structure and expression of crustaceans. This book is a compilation of research activity from twenty five of the most active re search laboratories working with brine shrimp in the above areas. It also represents the proceedings of a NATO Advanced Research Workshop held in Montreal, Canada, August 11-13, 1988. The book contains twenty nine full papers covering the major areas discussed at the workshop. In addition, one page abstracts representing seventeen poster presentations which were given at the workshop, and which were deemed to be most relevant to the theme of the book, are included. These are designated with an [al in the Table of Contents following the title of each paper. A considerable amount of discussion which took place during the workshop has not been included in the book because of space limitations. However, the editors will endeavour to make some of this in formation available at a later date through the Artemia Newsletter. In addition to the high percentage of invited speakers who attended and contributed to the workshop, the organizers would like to thank a number of participants who made valuable contributions to the major dis cussion sessions. These include: John Freeman, Michael Horst, Herman Slegers, Jack Vaughn, Frank Conte, Sandy McLennan, Clive Trotman and Patrick Sorgeloos.
