Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This useful book helps reference librarians understand the information seeking needs and behaviors of the diverse groups of people in the communities they serve. With the increasing diversity of the American population, librarians striving to plan and deliver excellent reference services must enhance their understanding of how best to assist many types of individuals and groups, from children to the elderly. Library Users and Reference Services provides much-needed help in this area, delivering strategies and methods to aid readers in their quest for increasingly effective service for all members of the communities in which they work.Library Users and Reference Services is divided into four sections of chapters which cover a broad range of topics to assist readers in planning and delivering appropriate services. Section One explores customer service, economics of information, and marketing as key concepts useful in studying information needs of specific groups in the population. Section Two focuses on scholars and students in three broad academic disciplines: science, humanities, and social sciences. Section Three covers groups with special characteristics such as age, economic standing, gender, or profession. Section Four discusses evaluation and provides guidance in the use of the most widely accepted measures for assessing reference effectiveness. The book’s final chapter explores redesigning reference services for the future, providing a glimpse of how such services may change. Library Users and Reference Services is a practical guide to help readers understand the many issues related to serving diverse populations in a community. Reference librarians and graduate library school students and faculty will learn more effective ways to help a heterogeneous public with the help of this new book.

Download or read book Study Habits Socio Psychological Research written by Harischendra Kumar Singh and published by K.K. Publications. This book was released on 2022-01-16 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: STUDY HABITS The research reported in this thesis makes a modest study of Study Habits in post-graduate students in relation to certain important social and psychological factors. The sociological variables include ethnicity, faculty and gender while the psychological variables consist of adjustment, aspiration, and parental support. The data of study habits and use of library, adjustment, aspiration and parental support were collected from 400 post-graduate students drawn from four faculties namely Arts, Science, Commerce and Medicine. Each faculty was represented by 100 cases divided into an equal number of tribal, non-tribal, male and female cases. In addition to the above noted psychological variables, the academic achievement of the student was also taken into account. The marks obtained by the students in their last examination were considered as a measure of academic achievement. The data obtained were analyzed to measure the extent of Study Habit and Use of library among Post Graduate students of four faculties. Besides, an attempt was made to examine the main and interaction effect of ethnicity, faculty and gender on two main dependent variables namely Study Habits and Use of Library. Furthermore, the relationship of Study Habits and Use of Library was examined with adjustment, aspiration and parental support. Inter-relationship of Study Habits and Use of Library was also studied and those two variables were correlated with academic achievement.
