Book Report on the Geology of the Eastern Portion of the Uinta Mountains and a Region of Country Adjacent Thereto

Download or read book Report on the Geology of the Eastern Portion of the Uinta Mountains and a Region of Country Adjacent Thereto written by Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories (U.S.) and published by . This book was released on 1876 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Colorado River of the West drains a vast system of plateaus. On these plateaus are lone mountains, short ranges and groups of volcanic cones, and the principal effluents of the river have their sources in high mountains that stand on the rim of the great drainage basin. There is no considerable valley along the course of the Colorado River north of the thirty-fifth parallel nor along the course of any of its principal tributaries. The streams run chiefly in deep canons which, with other important topographic features, serve to divide the area into plateaus.

Book Gilsonite Veins of the Uinta Basin Utah

Download or read book Gilsonite Veins of the Uinta Basin Utah written by Taylor Boden and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2012-01-19 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previous studies have shown the Escalante Valley, Utah, is subsiding due to groundwater withdrawal. The magnitude and spatial pattern of this cm/yr.-scale subsidence is mapped with satellite data from a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) using interferometric SAR (InSAR) processing techniques.

Book Geology of Utah s Mountains Peaks and Plateaus

Download or read book Geology of Utah s Mountains Peaks and Plateaus written by William T. Parry and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2016-03-10 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utah’s landscape is among the most spectacular in the world. It is a region of prominent peaks, sweeping valleys, dramatic canyons, and plateaus rimmed by sheer cliffs. Unique among western states, Utah’s landscape includes the Colorado Plateau, Basin and Range, and Rocky Mountains geologic provinces. Exposed rocks tell the geologic story of the region’s basement structures, overlying surface features, and rock sequences that have contributed to sculpting the appearance of today's landscape. Rocks and formations record the evolution of the western part of the North American continent, and give clues to the nature of ancient crustal basement and Earth’s deeper layers. Climate change has shaped the present landscape through the erosional power of ancient glaciers and the presence of today’s large lakes and basins. Geology of Utah introduces the state’s deep earth, plate tectonics, and the development of its ancient mountains. It describes the geology of the three main geological provinces, ancient elevations, cliffs, valleys, and the history of the region’s climate. This book will enrich the experience of enthusiastic amateur geologists who want to understand and explore the development of Utah's highlands and the history of this dynamic landscape.

Book The Geologic Story of the Uinta Mountains

Download or read book The Geologic Story of the Uinta Mountains written by Wallace Hansen and published by Falcon Guides. This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Other than the Brooks Range in Alaska, the Uintas are the most prominent east/west range in the United States. They also contain the highest mountains in Utah, many of which exceed 13,000 feet, including Kings Peak at 13,528 feet -- the highest point in Utah. There are well over 1,000 natural lakes and over 400 miles of streams in this 100-mile long range in northeastern Utah. While the intended scope of this book is fairly broad, the author presents the geologic story of the Uinta Mountains with a clarity and wit that gives this book a unique and popular appeal.

Book Tectonic Evolution of the Uinta Mountains

Download or read book Tectonic Evolution of the Uinta Mountains written by Donald S. Stone and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 1993-09 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major tectonic events important in the evolution of the Uinta Mountains were evaluated through palinspastic restoration of a north-south structural cross section drawn along longitude 1090 15' in northeastern Utah. The section crosses the Uinta Mountains from Red Wash field in the Uinta Basin on the south to Clay Basin field in the Green River Basin on the north, a distance of 105 kilometers (65 mi). Surface geologic mapping, borehole, and reflection seismic information comprise the primary data base.

Book The Geology of the Kamas Coalville Region Summit County Utah and Its Relation to Ground water Conditions

Download or read book The Geology of the Kamas Coalville Region Summit County Utah and Its Relation to Ground water Conditions written by Hugh A. Hurlow and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2002 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kamas-Coalville region is in the Middle Rocky Mountains physiographic province, about 30 miles east of the Wasatch Front urban area. Rapid population growth and increased water use are the impetus for a collaborative study of water resources in the Kamas-Coalville region, which includes geologic and hydrologic components. This study describes the geologic framework of the Kamas-Coalville region, emphasizing geologic features that most strongly influence ground-water occurrence, flow, and development. The main topics include: (1) the stratigraphy and structural geology of bedrock, (2) the nature and geometry of unconsolidated deposits in Kamas Valley, (3) the hydrostratigraphy of the study area, and (4) the structure of bedrock units below Kamas Valley. 55 pages + 15 plates
