Book Structure of Silver 100 and 111 Single Crystal Surfaces Obtained by Chemical Polishing

Download or read book Structure of Silver 100 and 111 Single Crystal Surfaces Obtained by Chemical Polishing written by R. R. Adzic and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In single-crystal electrochemical studies, various researchers have prepared the electrode surfaces by mechanical polishing followed by chemical polishing without further cleaning or high temperature annealing in vacuo. The quality of such single-crystal surfaces is in question. The present work has involved the use of LEED (Low Energy Electron Diffraction) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) to examine the order and purity of the silver (111) and (100) surfaces after preparation with such procedures with the chemical polishing carried out in a cyanide-hydrogen peroxide solution. For both surfaces the LEED patterns have surprisingly well-defined spots indicating a high two-dimensional periodicity, although not as ordered as the UHV cleaned and annealed surfaces. Highly diffuse background and weak fractional-order spots are present in the LEED pattern of the chemically polished surfaces, probably due to random and order impurity adsorption during transfer to the vacuum chamber. The Auger electron spectra before sputtering indicate the main impurity to be carbonaceous with no nitrogen detected. Voltammetry curves in 0.1M HF in a thin-layer cell are generally featureless over the potential range -0.1 to +0.45V vs RHE. These data indicate that chemical polishing can yield silver single-crystal surfaces of sufficient quality to produce LEED patterns but still short of the quality for UHV cleaned and annealed surfaces. Book Organic Nanostructures Science and Applications

Download or read book Organic Nanostructures Science and Applications written by V.M. Agranovich and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2002-11-19 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this Enrico Fermi School, the first one dedicated to advanced organic materials, the main research results and open problems in science and technology of organic nanostructures have been discussed; in particular, growth techniques, electronic and optical properties, device applications. The necessary background material has been covered and interdisciplinary aspects have been emphasized with the aim of a unified approach to the basic physical phenomena bridging the gap between standard graduate courses and the state of the art in the field. The lecturers have provided authoritative and comprehensive tutorial reviews of the main issues involved in the science and technology of organic materials and their nanostructures. In particular, the following topics have been specifically addressed: charge carrier mobility and transport properties, electrical conductivity of conjugated polymers, charge transfer states in organics, photorefractivity in organics, energy transfer processes in organics, photophysics and fast spectroscopy, technology of polymer electronics and light emitting devices.

Book CRC Handbook of Metal Etchants

Download or read book CRC Handbook of Metal Etchants written by Perrin Walker and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1990-12-11 with total page 1434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication presents cleaning and etching solutions, their applications, and results on inorganic materials. It is a comprehensive collection of etching and cleaning solutions in a single source. Chemical formulas are presented in one of three standard formats - general, electrolytic or ionized gas formats - to insure inclusion of all necessary operational data as shown in references that accompany each numbered formula. The book describes other applications of specific solutions, including their use on other metals or metallic compounds. Physical properties, association of natural and man-made minerals, and materials are shown in relationship to crystal structure, special processing techniques and solid state devices and assemblies fabricated. This publication also presents a number of organic materials which are widely used in handling and general processing...waxes, plastics, and lacquers for example. It is useful to individuals involved in study, development, and processing of metals and metallic compounds. It is invaluable for readers from the college level to industrial R & D and full-scale device fabrication, testing and sales. Scientific disciplines, work areas and individuals with great interest include: chemistry, physics, metallurgy, geology, solid state, ceramic and glass, research libraries, individuals dealing with chemical processing of inorganic materials, societies and schools.

Book Thin Films Preparation Characterization Applications

Download or read book Thin Films Preparation Characterization Applications written by Manuel P. Soriaga and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about thin films; what they are, how they are prepared, how they are characterized, and what they are used for. The contents of this book not only showcase the diversity of thin films, but also reveals the commonality among the work performed in a variety of areas. The chapters in this volume are based on invited papers presented by prominent researchers in the field at a Symposium on "Thin Films: Preparation, Characterization, Applications" at the 221st National Meeting of the American Chemical Society held in San Diego, California. The coverage of the symposium was extensive; topics ranged from highly-ordered metal adlayers on well-defined electrode surfaces to bio-organic films on non-metallic nanoparticles. An objective of this book is for the readers to be able to draw from the experience and results of others in order to improve and expand the understanding of the science and technology of their own thin films systems.
