Download or read book Mechanisms Of Gene Expression Structure Function And Evolution Of The Basal Transcriptional Machine written by Robert O J Weinzierl and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-08-10 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed knowledge of the mechanisms underlying the transcriptional control of gene expression is of fundamental importance to many areas of contemporary biomedical research, ranging from understanding basic issues (such as control of embryonic development) to practical applications in industry and medicine. Although elementary concepts of gene expression are described in all general molecular biology textbooks, the depth of coverage is often rather limited and recent discoveries are sometimes not adequately taken into consideration. This book presents much of the current thinking concerning molecular mechanisms of transcriptional control in a form easily accessible to undergraduates with an understanding of basic molecular biology concepts. It contains detailed information about the various pro- and eukaryotic transcriptional machineries that has recently become available through the combined efforts of geneticists, biochemists and structural biologists. The book will thus not only serve as an undergraduate text but also offer something new and interesting to more advanced readers and professional scientists who want to keep up to date with rapid advances in this field.

Download or read book Biochemical and Genetic Characterization of the Transcription Elongation Factor TFIIS from the Yeast Saccharomyces Cerevisiae written by Karen Renee Christie and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regulation of the process of transcriptional elongation is an important control mechanism in the expression of some genes. To fully understand this form of regulation will require better understanding of the functions of transcription elongation factors. The goal of this work was to characterize the transcription elongation factor TFIIS from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, originally called P37. I demonstrated that, like the mammalian TFIIS proteins, the yeast protein stimulates RNA polymerase II to cleave the nascent RNA transcript and to read-through an intrinsic block to elongation. Investigation of the protein-protein contacts between TFIIS and RNA polymerase II indicated that the carboxyl-terminal domain of the largest subunit, subunit four, and subunit seven of the polymerase are not required for TFIIS to promote cleavage and read-through by the polymerase. In addition the carboxyl-terminal half of the yeast TFIIS protein is sufficient for both of these in vitro activities. This result is consistent with the previous results demonstrating the carboxyl-terminus of mouse TFIIS was sufficient to activate RNA polymerase in vitro.
Download or read book Macromolecular Protein Complexes II Structure and Function written by J. Robin Harris and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-14 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book follows on from Volume 83 in the SCBI series (“Macromolecular Protein Complexes”), and addresses several important topics (such as the Proteasome, Anaphase Promoting Complex, Ribosome and Apoptosome) that were not previously included, together with a number of additional exciting topics in this rapidly expanding field of study. Although the first SCBI Protein Complex book focused on soluble protein complexes, the second (Vol. 87)addressed Membrane Complexes, and the third (Vol. 88) put the spotlight on Viral Protein and Nucleoprotein Complexes, a number of membrane, virus and even fibrillar protein complexes have been be considered for inclusion in the present book. A further book is also under preparation that follows the same pattern, in an attempt to provide a thorough coverage of the subject.
