Book Pore Structure of Cement Based Materials

Download or read book Pore Structure of Cement Based Materials written by Kalliopi K. Aligizaki and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-09-22 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pore Structure of Cement-Based Materials provides a thorough treatment of the experimental techniques used to characterize the pore structure of materials. The text presents the principles and practical applications of the techniques used, organized in an easy-to-follow and uncomplicated manner, providing the theoretical background, the way to analyze experimental data, and the factors affecting the results. The book is the single comprehensive source of the techniques most commonly used for pore structure analysis, covering simple techniques like mercury intrusion porosimetry and water absorption, to the more sophisticated small-angle scattering and nuclear magnetic resonance. The book is an essential reference text for researchers, users, and students in materials science, applied physics, and civil engineering, who seek a deep understanding of the principles and limitations of the techniques used for pore structure analysis of cement-based materials.

Book Cement and Concrete Chemistry

Download or read book Cement and Concrete Chemistry written by Wieslaw Kurdowski and published by Springer Science & Business. This book was released on 2014-04-24 with total page 705 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph describes cement clinker formation. It covers multicomponent systems, clinker phase structures and their reactions with water, hydrate composition and structure, as well as their physical properties. The mineral additions to cement are described as are their influence on cement-paste properties. Special cements are also discussed. The microstructure of concrete is then presented, and special emphasis is given to the role of the interfacial transition zone, and the corrosion processes in the light of cement-phase composition, mineral additions and w/c ratio. The admixtures' role in modern concrete technology is described with an emphasis on superplasticizer chemistry and its cement-paste rheological modification mechanism. Cement with atypical properties, such as calcium aluminate, white, low energy and expansive cements are characterized. The last part of the book is devoted to special types of concrete such as self compacting and to reactive powders.

Book Fracture of Non Metallic Materials

Download or read book Fracture of Non Metallic Materials written by K.P. Herrmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the lectures of the 5th Advanced Seminar on Fracture Mechanics (ASFM 5) held at the Joint Research Centre, Ispra, on 14-18 October 1985. The series of the ASFMs is one of the two main regularly scheduled international events sponsored by the European Group on Fracture (EGF) , alternating with the European Conferences of Fracture (ECFS). Whereas ECFs are held in a different place on even years (the last. ECF6,was in Amsterdam in June 1986), ASFMs are hosted at the JRC Ispra on odd years. This establishment belonging to the Commission of the European Communities performs research work of common interest to the EC Member countries. One of the activities of the JRC-Ispra is the organization of Ispra-Courses aiming at the transfer of knowledge and the strengthening of exchanges and ties between European scientific workers. ASFMs are designed to give an advanced level treatment in selected areas of fracture mechanics. Previous ASFMs had been devoted to elastic-plastic fracture mechanics and to subcritical crack growth due to fatigue, stress corrosion and creep. In the early stages of preparation of ASFM5 it was decided to concentrate on a new theme, the fracture phenomena and fracture mechanics of non-metallic materials. Whereas fracture mechanics started with the study of glass by Griffith, its later developments centered predominantly on metallic alloys. However, in recent years non-metallic materials have found increasing uses and correspondingly efforts have been made to develop testing and prediction methods for these materials.

Book Properties of Fresh and Hardened Concrete Containing Supplementary Cementitious Materials

Download or read book Properties of Fresh and Hardened Concrete Containing Supplementary Cementitious Materials written by Nele De Belie and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-09 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents the current knowledge on the effect of SCMs (slag, fly ash, silica fume, limestone powder, metakaolin, natural pozzolans, rice husk ash, special SCMs, ternary blends) on the properties of fresh and hardened concrete (e.g. early strength development, workability, shrinkage) and curing requirements. Other topics treated in the book are postblending vs preblending, implications of SCM variability, interaction between SCM and commonly used admixtures (e.g. superplasticizers, air entrainers).
