Book Steel Heat Treatment

Download or read book Steel Heat Treatment written by George E. Totten and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-09-28 with total page 850 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of two self-contained volumes belonging to the newly revised Steel Heat Treatment Handbook, Second Edition, this book examines the behavior and processes involved in modern steel heat treatment applications. Steel Heat Treatment: Metallurgy and Technologies presents the principles that form the basis of heat treatment processes while incorporating detailed descriptions of advances emerging since the 1997 publication of the first edition. Revised, updated, and expanded, this book ensures up-to-date and thorough discussions of how specific heat treatment processes and different alloy elements affect the structure and the classification and mechanisms of steel transformation, distortion of properties of steel alloys. The book includes entirely new chapters on heat-treated components, and the treatment of tool steels, stainless steels, and powder metallurgy steel components. Steel Heat Treatment: Metallurgy and Technologies provides a focused resource for everyday use by advanced students and practitioners in metallurgy, process design, heat treatment, and mechanical and materials engineering.

Download or read book Bibliography written by Pierre Villars and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-12-21 with total page 1827 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By browsing about 10 000 000 scientific articles of over 200 major journals mainly in a 'cover to cover approach' some 200 000 publications were selected. The extracted data is part of the following fundamental material research fields: crystal structures (S), phase diagrams (also called constitution) (C) and the comprehensive field of intrinsic physical properties (P). This work has been done systematically starting with the literature going back to 1900. The above mentioned research field codes (S, C, P) as well as the chemical systems investigated in each publication were included in the present work. The aim of the Inorganic Substances Bibliography is to provide researchers with a comprehensive compilation of all up to now published scientific publications on inorganic systems in only three handy volumes.

Book The Mechanical and Physical Properties of the British Standard EN Steels B S 970 1955

Download or read book The Mechanical and Physical Properties of the British Standard EN Steels B S 970 1955 written by J. Woolman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mechanical and Physical Properties of the British Standard En Steels (B.S. 970 - 1955), Volume 2 focuses on the most commonly used range of steels in the United Kingdom - B.S.970 En Steels. The publication first offers information on 3 percent nickel steel and 3 1⁄2 percent nickel steel. Concerns focus on welding, machinability, hot working and heat treatment temperatures, physical properties, transformation characteristics, and hardenability. The text then explores 3 percent nickel-chromium steel, 1 1⁄2 percent nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel, and 2 1⁄2 percent nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel (medium carbon). The manuscript takes a look at 2 1⁄2 percent nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel (high carbon) and 3 percent nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel. Topics include welding, machinability, hot working and heat treatment temperatures, continuous cooling transformation, hardenability, and physical properties. The text also ponders on 4 1⁄4 percent nickel-chromium steel (with or without molybdenum), 1 percent carbon-chromium steel, and carbon case-hardening steel. The publication is a dependable source material for readers interested in the mechanical and physical properties of steels.

Book Structure and Mechanical Properties of Fe Cr Mo C Alloys with and Without Boron

Download or read book Structure and Mechanical Properties of Fe Cr Mo C Alloys with and Without Boron written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonconventional heat treatments were designed to improve the mechanical properties of these martensitic steels. Results show that the as-quenched structures of both steels consist mainly of dislocated martensite. In the boron-free steel, there are more lath boundary retained austenite films. The boron-treated steel shows higher strengths at all tempering temperatures but with lower Charpy V-notch impact energies. Both steels show tempered martensite embrittlement when tempered at 350°C for 1 hour. The properties above 500°C tempering are significantly different in the two steels. While the boron-free steel shows a continuous increase in toughness when tempered above 500°C, the boron-treated steel suffers a second drop in toughness at 600°C tempering. Transmission electron microscopy studies show that in the 600°C tempered boron-treated steel large, more or less continuous cementite films precipitate at the lath boundaries, which are probably responsible for the embrittlement. The differences in mechanical properties at tempering temperatures above 500°C are rationalized in terms of the effect of boron-vacancy interactions on the recovery and recrystallization behavior of these steels. Boron seems to impair room temperature impact toughness at low strength levels but not at high strength levels. By simple nonconventional heat treatments of the present alloys, martensitic steels may be produced with quite good strength-toughness properties which are much superior to those of existing commercial ultra-high strength steels. It has also been shown that the as-quenched martensitic steels need not be brittle and in fact very good combinations of strength and toughness can be obtained with as-quenched martensitic steels. 56 fig., 5 tables, 75 references.
