Book ENZYMES Catalysis Kinetics and Mechanisms

Download or read book ENZYMES Catalysis Kinetics and Mechanisms written by N.S. Punekar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-11 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This enzymology textbook for graduate and advanced undergraduate students covers the syllabi of most universities where this subject is regularly taught. It focuses on the synchrony between the two broad mechanistic facets of enzymology: the chemical and the kinetic, and also highlights the synergy between enzyme structure and mechanism. Designed for self-study, it explains how to plan enzyme experiments and subsequently analyze the data collected. The book is divided into five major sections: 1] Introduction to enzymes, 2] Practical aspects, 3] Kinetic Mechanisms, 4] Chemical Mechanisms, and 5] Enzymology Frontiers. Individual concepts are treated as stand-alone chapters; readers can explore any single concept with minimal cross-referencing to the rest of the book. Further, complex approaches requiring specialized techniques and involved experimentation (beyond the reach of an average laboratory) are covered in theory with suitable references to guide readers. The book provides students, researchers and academics in the broad area of biology with a sound theoretical and practical knowledge of enzymes. It also caters to those who do not have a practicing enzymologist to teach them the subject.

Book Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy

Download or read book Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy written by Patrick Bertrand and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-03 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although originally invented and employed by physicists, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy has proven to be a very efficient technique for studying a wide range of phenomena in many fields, such as chemistry, biochemistry, geology, archaeology, medicine, biotechnology, and environmental sciences. Acknowledging that not all studies require the same level of understanding of this technique, this book thus provides a practical treatise clearly oriented toward applications, which should be useful to students and researchers of various levels and disciplines. In this book, the principles of continuous wave EPR spectroscopy are progressively, but rigorously, introduced, with emphasis on interpretation of the collected spectra. Each chapter is followed by a section highlighting important points for applications, together with exercises solved at the end of the book. A glossary defines the main terms used in the book, and particular topics, whose knowledge is not required for understanding the main text, are developed in appendices for more inquisitive readers.

Book Functional Electrodes For Enzymatic And Microbial Electrochemical Systems

Download or read book Functional Electrodes For Enzymatic And Microbial Electrochemical Systems written by Brun Nicolas and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioelectrochemical Systems (BESs) are innovative and sustainable devices. They combine biological and electrochemical processes to engineer sensors, treat wastewater and/or produce electricity, fuel or high-value chemicals. In BESs, scientists have managed to incorporate biological catalysts, i.e. enzymes and/or microorganisms, and make them work in advanced electrochemical cells. BESs operate under mild conditions — at close to ambient temperature and pressure and at circumneutral pH — and represent a sustainable alternative to precious metal-based systems. Incorporating biological catalysts into devices while maintaining their activity and achieving electrical communication with electrode surfaces is a critical challenge when trying to advance the field of BESs. From implantable enzymatic biosensors to microbial electrosynthesis, and from laboratory-scale systems and fundamental studies to marketed devices, this book provides a comprehensive overview of recent advances related to functional electrodes for BESs. Book Novel Oxidoreductases for Steroid Reduction

Download or read book Novel Oxidoreductases for Steroid Reduction written by Anandsukeerthi Sandholu and published by . This book was released on 2023-10-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, enzymes have been recognized as powerful tools for the synthesis and modification of steroids and isoprenoids. This has led to an increasing interest in the study of novel oxidoreductases that are specific to these molecules. In this regard, Anandsukeerthi Sandholu has conducted extensive research on the identification, purification, and characterization of such enzymes. Oxidoreductases are a class of enzymes that catalyze the transfer of electrons from one molecule to another. They play an important role in the reduction of steroids and isoprenoids by selectively catalyzing the oxidation or reduction of specific functional groups. Sandholu's work has focused on understanding the specificity, structure, and function of these enzymes. One of the key aspects of Sandholu's research has been the identification and isolation of novel oxidoreductases from microorganisms. By screening a large number of microorganisms, Sandholu has been able to identify several promising candidates for further study. These enzymes have been purified and characterized, and their substrate specificity has been determined. Sandholu has also studied the structural and functional properties of these enzymes using a variety of techniques such as X-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, and enzyme kinetics. These studies have provided insights into the mechanisms by which these enzymes catalyze the reduction of steroids and isoprenoids. Sandholu's work has important implications for the biocatalytic synthesis of steroids and isoprenoids. Enzymes are increasingly being used as biocatalysts in the production of these molecules, and the identification and characterization of novel oxidoreductases with specificities for different functional groups will enable the development of more efficient and selective biocatalytic processes. In conclusion, Anandsukeerthi Sandholu's research on novel oxidoreductases for steroid reduction has contributed significantly to our understanding of these enzymes and their role in the biocatalytic synthesis of steroids and isoprenoids. Her work has important implications for the development of more efficient and selective biocatalytic processes in the future.
