Book Structural Concrete

Download or read book Structural Concrete written by M. Nadim Hassoun and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-06-14 with total page 1034 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The popular, easily accessible guide to the design of reinforced concrete structures now updated and revised Structural Concrete, Fifth Edition provides complete guidance to the analysis and design of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. This new edition brings all material up to date while maintaining the book's practical, logical, easy-to-follow approach. Coverage includes the latest ACI 318 - 11 code rules, emphasizing the code's strength approach and strain limits. Additional codes, standards, and specifications, as well as material properties and specific loads and safety provisions are also examined in detail. Drawing on decades of experience in industry and academia, the authors include numerous SI unit examples and design tables along with step-by-step instructions on how to analyze and design for each type of structural member. They clearly explain all key concepts one should know before tackling design formulas, and supplement the discussion with helpful end-of-chapter summaries, references, and problems. New and updated material in this edition includes: The application of shear design to beams with variable length in actual structure The design of deep beams employing ACI and AASHTO strut-and-tie approach The design of stepped-type reinforced concrete stairs, not covered anywhere else Seismic design and analysis utilizing the IBC 2012 and ASCE 7-10 code The design of curved beams subject to flexure, shear, and torsion Prestressed concrete bridge design according to AASHTO specifications Examples for predicting shrinkage and creep of concrete in both U.S. and SI units Structural Concrete, Fifth Edition arms civil and structural engineers with a complete set of tools for designing concrete structures with confidence. It is also an excellent resource for students of civil engineering.

Book Basic Structural Theory

Download or read book Basic Structural Theory written by Jacques Heyman and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-17 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text introduces the basic equations of the theory of structures. Conventional presentations of these equations follow the ideas of elastic analysis, introduced nearly two hundred years ago. The present book is written against the background of advances made in structural theory during the last fifty years, notably by the introduction of so-called plastic theory. Tests on real structures in the twentieth century revealed that structural states predicted by elastic analysis cannot in fact be observed in practice, whereas plastic ideas can be used to give accurate estimates of strength. Strength is discussed in the first part of this book without reference to equations of elastic deformation. However, the designer is concerned also with stiffness, for which elastic analysis is needed, and the standard equations (suitable, for example, for computer programming) are presented. Finally, stability is analyzed, which again is essentially an elastic phenomenon, and it is shown that a higher "factor of safety" is required to guard against buckling than that required to guarantee straightforward strength. The emphasis throughout is on the derivation and application of the structural equations, rather than on details of their solution (nowadays best done by computer), and the numerical examples are deliberately kept simple.

Book Organization Structures

Download or read book Organization Structures written by Helmy H. Baligh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-27 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organization Structures: Theory and Design, Analysis and Prescription describes how to organize people to achieve a desired outcome. This is accomplished by establishing sets of rules from "real world" organization contexts. Moreover, the development of these rules within "real world" contexts means that the rules must be true, general, operational, technically sound, and easy to use. With an understanding of rules and the processes of their use, organization structures can be identified, which in turn form the basis of a theoretical framework. This book discusses, examines, and demonstrates the interrelationship of the design rules, their theoretical use within these organization structures, along with their practical implications. Throughout the book, an extended example of the Masters Brewing Corporation (MBC) is used to illustrate the conceptual material and to make the implications of the organizational analysis explicitly concrete.

Book Structural Design of Buildings

Download or read book Structural Design of Buildings written by Paul Smith and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-02-16 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering common problems, likely failures and their remedies, this is an essential on-site guide to the behaviour of a building’s structure. Presented in a clear structure and user-friendly style, the book goes through all the structural aspects of a building and assesses the importance of the different components. It explains the structural behaviour of buildings, giving some of the basics of structures together with plenty of real-life examples and guidance.
