Book On the Effect of Mismatching on Structural Resistance of Welds

Download or read book On the Effect of Mismatching on Structural Resistance of Welds written by C. Eripret and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The usual fracture mechanics based concepts available to assess structural integrity have been developed for homogeneous structures. When considering cracks in welds, these methods assume that cracks are located in a material of uniform properties and neglect any difference of strain carrying capacity due to mismatching effects. The French Cracked Weld Research Programme (FCWRP, conducted by CEA, EDF, and FRAMATOME) has been in progress for the last three years to investigate how the effects of weld metal mismatch may affect structural resistance of welded structures. This paper gives an overview of the conclusions and results drawn from this program.

Book Fatigue of Welded Structures

Book Fracture and Fatigue of Welded Joints and Structures

Download or read book Fracture and Fatigue of Welded Joints and Structures written by K Macdonald and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-04-19 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The failure of any welded joint is at best inconvenient and at worst can lead to catastrophic accidents. Fracture and fatigue of welded joints and structures analyses the processes and causes of fracture and fatigue, focusing on how the failure of welded joints and structures can be predicted and minimised in the design process. Part one concentrates on analysing fracture of welded joints and structures, with chapters on constraint-based fracture mechanics for predicting joint failure, fracture assessment methods and the use of fracture mechanics in the fatigue analysis of welded joints. In part two, the emphasis shifts to fatigue, and chapters focus on a variety of aspects of fatigue analysis including assessment of local stresses in welded joints, fatigue design rules for welded structures, k-nodes for offshore structures and modelling residual stresses in predicting the service life of structures. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Fracture and fatigue of welded joints and structures is an essential reference for mechanical, structural and welding engineers, as well as those in the academic sector with a research interest in the field. Analyses the processes and causes of fracture and fatigue, focusing predicting and minimising the failure of welded joints in the design process Assesses the fracture of welded joints and structure featuring constraint-based fracture mechanics for predicting joint failure Explores specific considerations in fatigue analysis including the assessment of local stresses in welded joints and fatigue design rules for welded structures

Book Structural Integrity and Failure

Download or read book Structural Integrity and Failure written by Resat Oyguc and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2021-02-10 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural integrity and failure assessment have been considered by many fields of engineers as it is a multi-disciplinary concept. The assessment procedure vitally ensures that structural elements will remain functional throughout their service lives. Structural failure refers to the loss of structural integrity by means of loss at the component- or system-level elements. The main concern of integrity assessment is that a structural failure may be avoided at the service level by designing the structure to withstand its designated loads. Hence, for satisfactory structural performance, structural safety, failure, and interaction between them should be considered throughout the design and analysis stages. This book is a collection of chapters that provide the researcher with a comprehensive perspective on structural integrity and its sub-disciplines.

Book Biaxial Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture

Download or read book Biaxial Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture written by Andrea Carpinteri and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-03-19 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS) Technical Commitee on Fatigue of Engineering Materials and Structures (TC3) decided to compile a Special Technical Publication (ESIS STP) based on the 115 papers presented at the 6th International Conference on Biaxial/Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture. The 25 papers included in the STP have been extended and revised by the authors. The conference was held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 25-28 June 2001, and was chaired by Manual De Freitas, Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon. The meeting, organised by the Instituto Superior Tecnico and sponsored by the Portuguese Minesterio da Cienca e da Tecnologia and by the European Structural Integrity Society, was attended by 151 delegates from 20 countries. The papers in the present book deal with the theoretical, numerical and experimental aspects of the Multiaxial fatigue and fracture of engineering materials and structures. They are divided in to the following six sections; Multiaxial Fatigue of Welded Structures; High cycle Multiaxial fatigue; Non proportional and Variable-Amplitude loading; Defects, Notches, Crack Growth; Low Cycle Multiaxial Fatigue; Applications and Testing Methods. As is well-known, most engineering components and structures in the mechanical, aerospace, power generation, and other industries are subjected to multiaxial loading during their service life. One of the most difficult tasks in design against fatigue and fracture is to translate the information gathered from uniaxial fatigue and fracture tests on engineering materials into applications involving complex states of cyclic stress-strain conditions. This book is the result of co-operation between many researchers from different laboratories, universities and industries in a number of countries.
