Book Molecular Nanostructures Proceedings Of The International Winterschool On Electronic Properties Of Novel Materials

Download or read book Molecular Nanostructures Proceedings Of The International Winterschool On Electronic Properties Of Novel Materials written by Jorg Fink and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-01-15 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the latest of the “Kirchberg-Proceedings”. The previous 11 International Winterschools on Electronic Properties of Novel Materials, all held in Kirchberg, Austria, were devoted to conducting polymers, high temperature superconductors, fullerenes, and carbon nanotubes. Fullerenes and nanotubes are still in the center of interest, but the topic of the school and the proceedings is molecular nanostructures in general. The organizers have attempted to treat carbon nanostructures as a special case of molecular nanostructures, which also include silicon clusters, gold clusters, vanadium oxide tubes, and many others. The Winterschool provides a platform for reviewing and discussing new developments in the field of molecular nanostructures and their applications. Materials discussed include fullerenes, fullerene-derived structures, carbonaceous nanotubes, non-carbonaceous nanotubes, layer by layer systems, molecular clusters, new phases of carbon, endohedral compounds and related materials. The book aims to give an overview of the current status of fullerenes, carbon-nanotubes and related molecular nanostructures. The majority of the contributions present the latest results of experiments and calculations conducted in the field. However, about a dozen contain some degree of instructional material which even newcomers will benefit from.

Book Electronic Properties of Novel Materials Progress in Molecular Nanostructures XII International Winterschool

Download or read book Electronic Properties of Novel Materials Progress in Molecular Nanostructures XII International Winterschool written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book contains the 12th International Winterschool on Electronic Properties of Novel Materials in Kirchberg, Tyrol, Austria. The series of these schools started in 1985. Originally the school was held every second year and was devoted to conducting polymers. After the discovery of high temperature superconductors the periodicity changed to an annual format and the topic alternated between conjugated polymers and superconductors. Since fullerenes are both conjugated compounds and (in some cases) superconductors, it was tempting to choose fullerenes as topic for the Kirchberg schools. The evident extension of this topic is carbon nanotubes and so the title changed from Fullerenes via Fullerene Derivatives and Fullerene Nanostructures to Molecular Nanostructures. This gradual change enables us to keep a fairly large interdisciplinary scientific community together and to stimulate numerous international cooperations. A compilation of the previous Kirchberg Winterschools will be presented in the table at the end of this preface. The term Molecular Nanostructures implies the "bottom-up" (synthetic) approach, as opposed to the "top-down" (lithography and etching) techniques in semiconductor technology. As for the physics, we are in a field where solid state physics and molecular physics overlap. This is nicely seen on the example of carbon nanotubes: Their diameter is in the order of a few nanometers and thus perpendicular to their axis nanotubes are molecular (different diameters lead to different electronic structures), along their axis they are extended solids. Most oral contributions to the winterschool were on carbon nanotubes, and there are also three chapters of the proceedings and a large part of the chapter on applications devoted to this topic. The majority of the posters was on fullerenes and fullerides.

Book Physical and Chemical Aspects of Organic Electronics

Download or read book Physical and Chemical Aspects of Organic Electronics written by Christof Wöll and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-04-22 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic molecules are currently being investigated with regard to their application as active components in semiconductor devices. Whereas devices containing organic molecules for the generation of light - organic light emitting diodes (OLED) - have already reached the market (they e.g. display information on mobile phones), transistors where organic molecules are used to actively control currents and voltages are still in the development stage. In this book the principle problems related to using organic materials as semiconductors and to construct functioning devices will be addressed. A particular emphasis will be put on the difference between inorganic semiconductors such as Si, Ge and GaAs and organic semiconductors (OSC). The special properties of such soft matter require particular approaches for processing characterization and device implementation, which are quite different from the approach used for conventional semiconductors.

This book was released on 2004-10-18 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in this volume focus on new nanostructured materials. The term "synthetic nanostructures" implies the "bottom up" (synthetic) approach, as opposed to the "top down" (lithography and etching) techniques in nanostructure technology. In the field of nanotechnology, solid state physics and molecular physics overlap. This is nicely illustrated with the example of carbon nanotubes. Perpendicular to their axis, nanotubes are molecular as their diameter is in the order of a few nanometers, and different diameters lead to different electronic structures, while along their axis they are extendedsolids.
