Book Structural and Electrical Properties of Some Manganites Compounds

Download or read book Structural and Electrical Properties of Some Manganites Compounds written by A. El-Shafaie and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-28 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colossal magnetoresistive (CMR) compounds with the perovskite structure are mainly characterized by a competition between ferromagnetism and paramagnatism, and between a metallic and insulator behavior.Electrical and structure have been studied in La1-xSrxMnOy (x = 0.1,0.15,0.2,0.25,0.3,0.35). The magnetoresistance was determined by measuring the temperature dependence of resistivity under a magnetic field 0.5 T. It was negative for all compositions and significantly influenced by the Sr content and annealing time. The obtained magnetoresitance values may make the materials promising for different applications.

Book Correlation Between Structure Electrical and Magnetic Properties of Some Alkali Oxide Materials

Download or read book Correlation Between Structure Electrical and Magnetic Properties of Some Alkali Oxide Materials written by Riadh Marzouki and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this chapter, the correlation between structure and electrical properties of Na2MP1.5As0.5O7 (MII¬†=¬†Co and Cu) are treated. The structural study shows that the cobalt and copper isotype materials can be crystallized in the tetragonal and monoclinic systems, respectively. The electrical study using impedance spectroscopy technique showed that these mixed diphosphate diarsenates are fast electrical conductors; however, the cobalt material exhibited more conductive property than the copper compound. In addition, the powder perovskite manganites La0.7M0.2M,Äô0.1MnO3 (M¬†=¬†Sr, Ba and M,Äô¬†=¬†Na, Ag and K) have been prepared using the conventional solid-state reaction. The structural, magnetic, and magnetocaloric properties of these perovskite manganites compounds were studied extensively by means of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and magnetic measurements. These samples were crystallized in the distorted rhombohedral system with R3c space group. The variation of magnetization (M) vs. temperature (T) reveals that all compounds exhibit a second-order ferromagnetic to paramagnetic phase transition in the vicinity of the Curie temperature (TC). A maximum magnetic entropy change, ŒîSMMax, of 4.07¬†J¬†kg,àí1¬†K,àí1 around 345¬†K was obtained in La0.7Sr0.2Na0.1MnO3 sample upon a magnetic field change of 5¬†T. The ŒîSMMax values of La0.7Ba0.2M,Äô0.1MnO3 are smaller in magnitude compared to La0.7Sr0.2M,Äô0.1MnO3 samples and occur at lower temperatures.

Thanks are given to the Center for Fundamental Materials Research at Michigan State University for supporting this series. M. F. Thorpe, Series Editor E mail: thorpe@pa. msu. edu V PREFACE This book records invited lectures given at the workshop on Physics of Manganites, held at Michigan State University, July 26 29, 1998. Doped manganites are an interesting class of compounds that show both metal insulator and ferromagnetic to paramagnetic transitions at the same temperature. This was discovered in the early 1950s by Jonker and van Santen and basic theoretical ideas were developed by Zener (1951), Anderson and Hasegawa (1955), and deGennes (1960) to explain these transitions and related interesting observations.

Book Colossal Magnetoresistance Charge Ordering and Related Properties of Manganese Oxides

Download or read book Colossal Magnetoresistance Charge Ordering and Related Properties of Manganese Oxides written by Chintamani Nagesa Ramachandra Rao and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal oxides constitute one of the most amazing classes of materials with a wide range of properties. They exhibit a variety of phenomena, such as ferroelectricity, ferromagnetism and superconductivity. A new aspect of metal oxides -- colossal magnetoresistance exhibited by certain manganese oxides, in particular rare earth manganates of perovskite structure -- has received much attention in the last four years. Some of these oxides show 100% magnetoresistance and have much potential for technological applications. Previously this phenomenon was found only in layered and granular metallic materials. Studies of colossal magnetoresistance have led to the discovery of many other new phenomena and properties such as charge ordering and orbital ordering. In view of the importance of colossal magnetoresistance, charge ordering and related phenomena exhibited by oxides to the physics and chemistry of solid materials, it is necessary and timely to have a book dealing with these topics. This book begins with a review of the subject followed by contributions from a number of experts which cover the present status of the subject.

Book Vibronic Interactions Jahn Teller Effect in Crystals and Molecules

Download or read book Vibronic Interactions Jahn Teller Effect in Crystals and Molecules written by Michael D. Kaplan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based mostly on the reports presented at the XVth International lahn-Teller Symposium on Vibronic Interactions in Crystals and Molecules and NATO Advanced Research Workshop Colossal Magnetoresistance and Vibronic Interactions that took place at Boston on August 16-22 of the year 2000. This is the first time the Symposium took place in the USA where recently the giant splash of the attention to the 1 ahn-Teller effect occurred. This tremendous interest to the field all over the world is reflected not only in the numerous publications in many American and European 10urnals, but of the leading scientists from additionally in the Symposium's participation the well known Universities, National Laboratories and industrial companies, which was the largest in the history of the Symposium. The renaissance of the 1ahn-Teller physics is closely related to the three fundamental discoveries in science. The most significant among them is the discovery of high-Tc superconductivity by K. -A. Muller and G. Bednorz, for whom the "1ahn-Teller idea" was the motivation in their search. The result of this search is well known - a wide spectrum of the 1ahn-Teller ion based materials with Tc between 24K and 135K were found. The second discovery is the existence of a new polymorph of carbon - the C60. The microscopic analysis of all physical, chemical and biological properties of the buckyballs is based on 1ahn-Teller type of interactions. The third is colossal magnetoresistance.

Book Colossal Magnetoresistive Manganites

Download or read book Colossal Magnetoresistive Manganites written by Tapan Chatterji and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physics of transition metal oxides has become a central topic of interest to condensed-matter scientists ever since high temperature superconductivity was discovered in hole-doped cuprates with perovskite-like structures. Although the renewed interest in hole-doped perovskite manganites following the discovery of their colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) properties, began in 1993 about a decade after the discovery of high temperature superconductivity, their first investigation started as early as 1950 and basic theoretical ideas were developed during 1951-1960. Experience in sample preparation and characterization, and in growth of single crystals and epitaxial thin films, gained during the research on high temperature superconductors, and the development of theoretical tools, were very efficiently used in research on CMR manganites. In early nineties it appeared to many condensed matter physicists that although the problem of high temperature superconductivity is a difficult one to solve, a quantitative understanding of CMR phenomena might be well within reach. This book is intended to be an account of the latest developments in the phys ics of CMR manganites. When I planned this book back in 2000, I thought that research on the physics of CMR manganites would be more or less consolidated by the time this would be published. I was obviously very optimistic indeed. We are now in 2003 and we still do not have a quantitative understanding of the central CMR effect. Meanwhile the field has expanded. It is still a very active field of research on both the experimental and theoretical fronts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perovskites have attracted great attention in the fields of energy storage, pollutant degradation as well as optoelectronic devices due to their excellent properties. This kind of material can be divided into two categories; inorganic perovskite represented by perovskite oxide and organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite, which have described the recent advancement separately in terms of catalysis and photoelectron applications. This book systematically illustrates the crystal structures, physic-chemical properties, fabrication process, and perovskite-related devices. In a word, perovskite has broad application prospects. However, the current challenges cannot be ignored, such as toxicity and stability.

Book Ferroelectrics Literature Index

Download or read book Ferroelectrics Literature Index written by T. F. Connolly and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 713 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on ferroelectricity and ferroelectric materials started in 1920 with the discovery by Valasek that the variation of spontaneous polarization in Rochelle salt with sign and magnitude of an applied electric field traced a complete and reproducible hysteresis loop. Activity in the field was sporadic until 1935, when Busch and co-workers announced the observation of similar behavior in potassium dihydrogen phosphate and related compounds. Progress thereafter continued at a modest level with the undertaking of some theoretical as well as further experimental studies. In 1944, von Hippel and co-workers discovered ferroelectricity in barium titanate. The technological importance of ceramic barium titanate and other perovskites led to an upsurge of interest, with many new ferroelectrics being identified in the following decade. By 1967, about 2000 papers on various aspects of ferroelectricity had been published. The bulk of this widely dispersed literature was concerned with the experimental measurement of dielectric, crystallographic, thermal, electromechanical, elastic, optical, and magnetic properties. A critical and excellently organized cpmpilation based on these data appeared in 1969 with the publica tion of Landolt-Bornstein, Volume 111/3. This superb tabulation gave instant access to the results in the literature on nearly 450 pure substances and solid solutions of ferroelectric and antiferroelectric materials. Continuing interest in ferroelectrics, spurred by the growing importance of electrooptic crystals, resulted in the publication of almost as many additional papers by the end of 1969 as had been surveyed in Landolt-Bornstein.
