Book Strong Directional Out of plane Scattering in Multiple Ionizing Highly Charged Ion atom Collisions

Download or read book Strong Directional Out of plane Scattering in Multiple Ionizing Highly Charged Ion atom Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The azimuthal ([phi][sub r]) and polar angle ([theta][sub r]) scattering of projectiles in coincidence with recoil ions has been studied for 0.53 MeV/u F[sup 8+] + Ne. For high degree of ionization of the target we find the resultant transverse momentum of all electrons emitted into the continuum to increase with the number of ejected electrons and to have a direction mostly not co-planar with the scattering plane.

Book Atomic Physics of Highly Charged Ions

Download or read book Atomic Physics of Highly Charged Ions written by Erhard Salzborn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the invited lectures and contributed papers presented at the V International Conference on the Physics of Highly Charged Ions, which was held at the lustus-Liebig-Universi tat Giessen, 10-14 September 1990. This conference was the ftfth in a series -after Stockholm (1982), Oxford (1984), Groningen (1986) and Grenoble (1988) -to deal with a rapidly growing fteld, which comprises the spectroscopy of highly charged ions and their interactions with photons, electrons, atoms, ions, and solids. Most of the matter of the universe is in the ionized state. Investigations dealing with hot plasmas on earth have been greatly furthered by thermonuclear-fusion research. The increasing maturity of this programme has revealed the fundamental role of highly charged ions in fusion plasmas. Today, it is clear that a detailed knowledge of the production mechanisms of highly charged ions and their interactions with other plasma constituents is an important prerequisite for a better understanding of the microscopic and macroscopic plasma properties. The study of highly charged ions involves various branches of physics. It was the aim of the conference to bring together physicists working in atomic collisions and spectroscopy, in plasma physics and astrophysics, as well as in solid-state and ion-source physics. About 220 scientists from 20 nations attended the conference, indicating the strong worldwide interest and the vital ity of research in this fteld.

Book Fast Ion atom and Ion molecule Collisions

Download or read book Fast Ion atom and Ion molecule Collisions written by Dzevad Belkic and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal goal of this book is to provide state-of-the-art coverage of the non-relativistic three- and four-body theories at intermediate and high energy ion-atom and ion-molecule collisions. The focus is on the most frequently studied processes: electron capture, ionization, transfer excitation and transfer ionization. The content is suitable both for graduate students and experienced researchers. For these collisions, the literature has seen enormous renewal of activity in the development and applications of quantum-mechanical theories. This subject is of relevance in several branches of science and technology, like accelerator-based physics, the search for new sources of energy and high temperature fusion of light ions. Other important applications are in life sciences via medicine, where high-energy ion beams are used in radiotherapy for which a number of storage ring accelerators are in full operation, under construction or planned to be built worldwide. Therefore, it is necessary to review this field for its most recent advances with an emphasis on the prospects for multidisciplinary applications. This book is accompanied by Interdisciplinary Research on Particle Collisions and Quantitative Spectroscopy Volume 2 - Fast Collisions of Light Ions with Matter: Charge Exchange and Ionization.

Book State of the art Reviews On Energetic Ion atom And Ion molecule Collisions

Download or read book State of the art Reviews On Energetic Ion atom And Ion molecule Collisions written by Dzevad Belkic and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-10-17 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based upon a part of the invited and contributing talks at the 25th International Symposium on Ion-Atom Collisions, ISIAC (biennial), held on July 23-25, 2017 in Palm Cove, Queensland, Australia. To aid the general reader, all the authors tried to present their chapters in the context of the development of the addressed particular themes and the underlying major ideas and intricacies. Some chapters contain new results that have not been previously published elsewhere. Whenever possible, the authors made their attempts to connect the basic research in atomic and molecular collision physics with some important applications in other branches of physics as well as across the physics borders. It is hoped that the material presented in this book will be interesting and useful to the beginners and specialists alike. The contents and expositions are deemed to be helpful to the beginners in assessing the potential overlap of some of the presented material with their own research themes and this might provide motivations for possible further upgrades. Likewise, specialists could take advantage of these reviews to see where the addressed themes were and where they are going, in order to acknowledge the fruits of the efforts made thus far and actively contribute to tailoring the directions of future research. Overall, this book is truly interdisciplinary. It judiciously combines experiments and theories within particle collision physics on atomic and molecular levels. It presents state-of-the-art fundamental research in this field. It addresses the possibilities for significant and versatile applications outside standard atomic and molecular collision physics ranging from astrophysics, surface as well as cluster physics/chemistry, hadron therapy in medicine and to the chemical industry. It is then, as Volume 2, fully in the spirit of the 'Aims and Scope' of this book series by reference to its 'Mission Statement'.

Book Fast Collisions of Light Ions With Matter

Download or read book Fast Collisions of Light Ions With Matter written by Dzevad Belkic and published by . This book was released on 2013-05-31 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal goal of this book is to provide state-of-the-art coverage of the non-relativistic three-body theory of high-energy ion–atom collisions. The main aspects of generalizations to tissue-like molecular targets, such as water, are also outlined. The focus is on the most frequently studied two processes, single electron capture and ionization. For the studied collisions, the literature has seen enormous renewal of activity in the development and applications of quantum-mechanical theories. This subject is of great relevance in several branches of science and technology, such as accelerator-based physics, research in new sources of energy and high temperature fusion of light ions. Other important applications are in the life sciences and medicine, where high-energy ion beams are used in cancer therapy. Therefore, it is necessary to present this field in its full capacity with the primary emphasis on realistic prospects for multidisciplinary applications, especially in radiotherapy. The present book is aimed to match the growing demand from theory and experiment, as motivated by high relevance for fundamental physics as well as for other fields such as fusion, medicine, etc. The overall emphasis in this book is not on compilation of cross sections, but rather on collisional mechanisms involving ions and atoms at high non-relativistic energies. The principal outlines for extensions of the analyzed theories' molecular targets (e.g. water) are also presented for the needs of hadron therapy.

Book Excitation of Atoms and Molecules in Collisions with Highly Charged Ions Cyclotron Inst Texas A M Univ College Station Texas

Download or read book Excitation of Atoms and Molecules in Collisions with Highly Charged Ions Cyclotron Inst Texas A M Univ College Station Texas written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of the double ionization of He by high-energy N[sup 7+] ions was extended up in energy to 40 MeV/amu. Coincidence time-of-flight studies of multicharged N[sub 2], O[sub 2], and CO molecular ions produced in collisions with 97-MeV Ar[sup 14+] ions were completed. Analysis of the total kinetic energy distributions and comparison with the available data for CO[sup 2+] and CO[sup 3+] from synchrotron radiation experiments led to the conclusion that ionization by Ar-ion impact populates states having considerably higher excitation energies than those accessed by photoionization. The dissociation fractions for CO[sup 1+] and CO[sup 2+] molecular ions, and the branching ratios for the most prominent charge division channels of CO[sup 2+] through CO[sup 7+] were determined from time-of-flight singles and coincidence data. An experiment designed to investigate the orientation dependence of dissociative multielectron ionization of molecules by heavy ion impact was completed. Measurements of the cross sections for K-shell ionization of intermediate-Z elements by 30-MeV/amu H, N, Ne, and Ar ions were completed. The cross sections were determined for solid targets of Z = 13, 22, 26, 29, 32, 40, 42, 46, and 50 by recording the spectra of K x rays with a Si(Li) spectrometer.

Book Two electron Processes and Correlation Effects in Ion atom Collisions

Download or read book Two electron Processes and Correlation Effects in Ion atom Collisions written by Junwen Gao and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents a non perturbative theory to describe multi-electronic processes occurring in the course of ion-atom collisions. The treatment is semiclassical in that the relative target-projectile motion is described by classical straight-line constant velocity trajectories, while the electronic dynamics is treated quantum mechanically, by solving non perturbatively the time-dependent Schödinger equation. The treatment has been implemented in a new version of two-active-electron computer code. Besides the long and complex development and tests of the code, the last three years have been especially devoted to understanding of the physics of specific heavy particle scattering events. We have undertaken the study of three collision systems with various features: (i) low charge ion-ion collisions with an extreme importance of electronic correlation (H+ + H- collisions), (ii) multiply charged projectile-atom collisions (C4+ + He) and (iii) He+ + He collisions with the dynamical treatment of the three electrons. Our guideline was always to target systems for which experimental and theoretical results were available (at least in some energy domain), with still open questions, related, for example, to strong disagreement between the various data. We have tried as much as our computing resources and allowed it to produce results with controlled convergence. These investigations were carried out in a very wide, up to three decades, energy domain with same collision description (i.e. same basis sets), which brought continuity and coherence on the predictions and the interpretations of the results and of the underlying mechanisms giving rise to the processes considered.
