Book excerpt: When Detroit rap group D12 signed with Eminem's Shady Records and hit it big, it wasn't just a victory for the six members of the group, but a game changer for the whole Runyon Ave. crew--all thirty of them. As CB watched his best friends' rise to fame, he knew it was only a matter of time before D12 reached back and pulled the rest of them up, too. But it didn't take long for him to realize that, despite the backstage access, the parties, and the fans, D12 couldn't save him--none of them. With a foreboding outlook on the future for his famous friends, CB carves his own path to travel, one that carries him far away from hip-hop. But it will take a string of devastating tragedies, suicide, and even murder before many of the crew realize the same. Behind the glaring spotlight and shimmers of stardom lies the foundation for Detroit's multi-platinum-selling rap group--the block from which they all came. Runyon Ave. paid a hefty price for fame, one that CB and the crew couldn't afford. D12's rise and fall created some of their best and worst times, but the story isn't over. Runyon Ave. is still alive, and The Block Remembers.

Book Charles I

    Book Details:
  • Author : Richard Cust
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2014-06-11
  • ISBN : 1317864379
  • Pages : 467 pages

Download or read book Charles I written by Richard Cust and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-11 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles I was a complex man whose career intersected with some of the most dramatic events in English history. He played a central role in provoking the English Civil War, and his execution led to the only republican government Britain has ever known. Historians have struggled to get him into perspective, veering between outright condemnation and measured sympathy. Richard Cust shows that Charles I was not ‘unfit to be a king’, emphasising his strengths as a party leader and conviction politician, but concludes that, none the less, his prejudices and attitudes, and his mishandling of political crises did much to bring about a civil war in Britain. He argues that ultimately, after the war, Charles pushed his enemies into a position where they had little choice but to execute him.

Book Strong Evaluation without Moral Sources

Download or read book Strong Evaluation without Moral Sources written by Arto Laitinen and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2008-12-10 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles Taylor (1931- ) is one of the leading living philosophers. This is the first extended study on the key notions of his views in philosophical anthropology and ethical theory. Firstly, Laitinen clarifies, qualifies and defends Taylor's thesis that transcendental arguments show that personal understandings concerning ethical and other values (so called "strong evaluation") is necessary, in different ways, for human agency, selfhood, identity and personhood. Secondly, Laitinen defends and develops in various ways Taylor's value realism. Finally, the book criticizes Taylor's view that it is necessary to identify and locate a constitutive source of value, such as God, Nature or Human Reason. Taylor relies heavily on this claim in his accounts of moral life, modern identity and, most recently, secularisation. Laitinen argues that the whole notion of constitutive moral source should be dropped – Taylor's views concerning strong evaluation and value realism are distorted by the question of constitutive "moral sources".
