Download or read book Uncertainty Modeling in Finite Element Fatigue and Stability of Systems written by Achintya Haldar and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The functionality of modern structural, mechanical and electrical or electronic systems depends on their ability to perform under uncertain conditions. Consideration of uncertainties and their effect on system behavior is an essential and integral part of defining systems. Book Structural Stability in Engineering Practice

Download or read book Structural Stability in Engineering Practice written by Lajos Kollar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-09-01 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Stability in Engineering Practice elucidates the various problems associated with attaining stability, and provides the results for practical use by the design engineer. By presenting a simple and visual description of the physical phenomena, the authors show how to determine the critical loads of various structures, such as frames, arches, building structures, trusses and sandwiches. Special emphasis is given to the post-critical behaviour - essential for assessing the safety of structures - and furthermore to the summation theories that make the solution of complicated stability problems relatively simple.

Book Contact Loading and Local Effects in Thin walled Plated and Shell Structures

Download or read book Contact Loading and Local Effects in Thin walled Plated and Shell Structures written by Vlastimil Krupka and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work summarizes theoretical and experimental investigations of real loading conditions of thin-walled plated and shell structures under loads concentrated on parts of their surface. There are presented more accurate and improved models of strain or stress distribution under patch loads considering geometrical and material nonlinearity in connection with stability problems and fatigue damage of studied structural types. The results of these investigations are of particular importance in the design and safety verification of many engineering structures, e.g. plate girders subjected to partial edge loading, closures of fuel tanks, footings and sadles of pressure vessels, reservoirs and pipelines.

Book Hencky Bar chain net For Structural Analysis

Download or read book Hencky Bar chain net For Structural Analysis written by Chien Ming Wang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-04-30 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As an emerging discrete structural model, the Hencky bar-chain/net model (HBM) has shown its advantages over other numerical methods in some problems. Owing to the discrete properties of HBM, it is also a suitable model for nano-scale structures which are currently a very hot research topic in mechanics. This book introduces the concepts and previous research of the Hencky bar-chain/net model, before demonstrating how beams, columns, arches, rectangular plates and circular plates could be successfully modelled by HBM. HBM comprises rigid bars connected by frictionless hinges with elastic rotational springs (and a system of torsional springs in the cells for plates). In the treatment of the above-mentioned structures, HBM is found to be mathematically equivalent to the first order central finite difference method (FDM). So HBM may be regarded as the physical structural model behind the FDM.This book is a compilation of the authors' research on the development of the Hencky bar-chain/net model, and is organized according to the development and application of HBM for beams, columns, frames, arches and rings, and plates. Exercises are provided at the end of each chapter to aid comprehension and guide learning. It is a useful reference for students, researchers, academics and practitioners in the field of structural analysis.

Book Thin Walled Structures with Structural Imperfections

Download or read book Thin Walled Structures with Structural Imperfections written by L.A. Godoy and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1996-05-10 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thin-walled structures are designed with advanced numerical analysis techniques and constructed using sophisticated fabrication processes. There are, however, a number of factors that may result in a structure that is not exactly coincident with what was considered during the design calculations. These features may be associated with changes in the properties of the structure, in the geometry, and many others. But even small changes in the structure may sometimes produce significant changes in the response. The present work is intended to introduce professionals and researchers to the effects of imperfections on the stresses in thin-walled structures. The main idea behind the presentation is that small imperfections may introduce changes in the stresses that are nearly equal to the stresses due to the loads. The book is organized into two main parts. The first part (Chapters 1 to 6) covers the techniques for analyzing imperfections. In the second part the emphasis is on applications, which at present may be found scattered throughout many scientific and professional journals. More practical aspects of imperfections may be found in Chapter 12. It is assumed that the reader is familiar with finite element techniques, and with the basics of shell structures.
