Book Stress Analysis of Thin and Thick Plates on Elastic Foundations Using Boundary and Finite Element Methods

Download or read book Stress Analysis of Thin and Thick Plates on Elastic Foundations Using Boundary and Finite Element Methods written by and published by . This book was released on 1904 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work an attempt has been made to derive a full finite element and boundary element theory for the analysis of thin and thick plates on elastic foundations. A new high order shear finite element capable of the analysis of thin thick plates has been derived using Hermitian and Lagrangian shape functions. Different new boundary element derivations for the analysis of thin plates on elastic foundations are introduced using 3 degrees-of-freedom per node. A full new derivation of boundary elements for thick plates on elastic foundations using complex Bessel functions is presented. Fourier and Hankel integral transforms have been employed for the derivation of different fundamental solutions required for boundary element analysis. Several techniques for dealing with singular and divergent integrals encountered with boundary integral equations were developed including the use of "Modified Kelvin Functions" and fictitious boundary concept. some case studies with different loading and boundary conditions were tested and proved that the new derivations presented in this work are correct and reliable for the analysis of thin and thick plates on elastic foundations.

This book was released on 2010-02-25 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS WITH THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD Linear Statics Volume 1 : The Basis and Solids Eugenio Oñate The two volumes of this book cover most of the theoretical and computational aspects of the linear static analysis of structures with the Finite Element Method (FEM). The content of the book is based on the lecture notes of a basic course on Structural Analysis with the FEM taught by the author at the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain for the last 30 years. Volume1 presents the basis of the FEM for structural analysis and a detailed description of the finite element formulation for axially loaded bars, plane elasticity problems, axisymmetric solids and general three dimensional solids. Each chapter describes the background theory for each structural model considered, details of the finite element formulation and guidelines for the application to structural engineering problems. The book includes a chapter on miscellaneous topics such as treatment of inclined supports, elastic foundations, stress smoothing, error estimation and adaptive mesh refinement techniques, among others. The text concludes with a chapter on the mesh generation and visualization of FEM results. The book will be useful for students approaching the finite element analysis of structures for the first time, as well as for practising engineers interested in the details of the formulation and performance of the different finite elements for practical structural analysis. Book Dynamic Analysis of Thin Plates on Soil Improved Elastic Foundation by Finite Elements Method

Download or read book Dynamic Analysis of Thin Plates on Soil Improved Elastic Foundation by Finite Elements Method written by Mustafa Kemal Köksal and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, dynamic analysis of the undamped free vibration and undamped forced vibration of thin plates on elastic foundation by finite elements is conducted. The importance of ground improvement on the behaviour of the thin plate is observed. General information about ground improvement via jet grouting and injection grouting techniques are given. The subsoil conditions and ground improvement of three case studies are examined. For each case study a relevant purpose for ground improvement is examined throughly. The finite elements method is explained briefly and the undamped free vibration of thin rectangular plates resting on elastic foundation is analysed. The natural frequency, period, frequency and free vibration modes, are found for the different foundation modulus, plate thickness, concrete classes and boundary conditions. The undamped free vibration of a thin circular plates resting on elastic foundation is examined. A conical finite element type is chosen. The Newmark Method and Linear Acceleration Difference Method are explained in the calculation of the forced vibration. A computer programme is prepared. Using the measures of Fatih station in 17 August 1999 earthquake, the displacements under the earthquake effect of the plate in both directions are found for the different foundation modulus.

Book Elastic Analysis of Soil Foundation Interaction

Download or read book Elastic Analysis of Soil Foundation Interaction written by A.P.S. Selvadurai and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Geotechnical Engineering, Vol. 17: Elastic Analysis of Soil-Foundation Interaction focuses on the analysis of the interaction between structural foundations and supporting soil media. The publication first elaborates on soil-foundation interaction problems; idealized soil response models for the analysis of soil-foundation interaction; and plane-strain analysis of an infinite plate and an infinitely long beam. Discussions focus on three-dimensional effects in the infinite beam problem, elastic models of soil behavior, foundation and interface behavior, and elastic-plastic and time-dependent behavior of soil masses. The manuscript then ponders on the analysis of beams of finite length, axisymmetric three-dimensional problem of an infinite plate, and analysis of finite plates. Concerns cover axisymmetric loading of a circular plate, analysis of rectangular plates, axisymmetric three-dimensional problem of the infinite plate, modifications of the thin plate theory, finite beams on a two-parameter elastic medium, and finite beams on an elastic solid medium. The book tackles the determination of soil parameters, experimental investigations and field studies, as well as experimental investigations and field studies and measurement and interpretation of parameters encountered in the idealized soil models in relation to soil-foundation behavior. The publication is a valuable reference for researchers interested in the elastic analysis of soil-foundation interaction.

Book Buckling and Postbuckling of Beams Plates and Shells

Download or read book Buckling and Postbuckling of Beams Plates and Shells written by M. Reza Eslami and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-03 with total page 603 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains eight chapters treating the stability of all major areas of the flexural theory. It covers the stability of structures under mechanical and thermal loads and all areas of structural, loading and material types. The structural element may be assumed to be made of a homogeneous/isotropic material, or of a functionally graded material. Structures may experience the bifurcation phenomenon, or they may follow the postbuckling path. This volume explains all these aspects in detail. The book is self-contained and the necessary mathematical concepts and numerical methods are presented in such a way that the reader may easily follow the topics based on these basic tools. It is intended for people working or interested in areas of structural stability under mechanical and/or thermal loads. Some basic knowledge in classical mechanics and theory of elasticity is required.

Book Finite Element Bibliography

Download or read book Finite Element Bibliography written by Gerard De Vries and published by Springer. This book was released on 1976-12 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thjs bibliography had its inception in 1967, when the compilers first attempted a comprehensive cov erage of the finite element literature using both manual and computer-based retrieval. Initially, the data base was stored on a card index, but this was subsequently transferred to punched cards and magnetic tape. Computer processing was adopted at an early stage to derive the three index formats from the data base. Over the subsequent years, several versions of the bibliography were produced, with two of these being made available in a report form to other researchers. From the widespread interest in these documents, it became evident that there was a need for a commercially-available comprehensive bibliography in this area. A major effort was undertaken to revise, update, and extend the data base, resulting in this present volume. The bibliography covers the period 1956-1975 primarily, although some earlier publications of histori cal interest are included. The citations are not restricted to the English language and documents are listed in many languages and from diverse places of origin. All publication formats were accepted, so that references will be found to books, monographs, journal papers and articles, theses, dissertations, reports, surveys, and the like.
