Book Faith Through the Storm

Download or read book Faith Through the Storm written by Jez Smith and published by Author House. This book was released on 2012-03-30 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have suffered on so many fronts, losing my health to losing my family and all the pain that that caused me. I spent a whole year and more seemingly holding on through the worst storm I have ever been in. Physically there is still a long way to go and a long road is still before me but I know that God is not finished with healing me. Physically my recovery has been very slow and frustrating and I am sure that my frustration has shown itself in the pages of this book, however I can clearly say that I would not be where I am today without my faith in God. One Sunday members of my church prayed for me because I had just had results that showed that their was no nerve activity in my legs below my knees and that according to the doctors showed that I did have nerve damage in my legs, however a week after their prayers for me God gave me the strength to walk into church on my crutches. I had been able for some weeks to walk short distances around my home on my crutches with splints controlling the position of my feet so that I did not drag my toes on the floor. Although my lower legs were not healed of their weakness God gave me the strength to walk further than I had ever walked before, and for me that told me that without prayer we can not overcome or expect to see positive results. Prayer is always the answer as is Jesus! I still find today that I have to be very careful with how much I do on any given day as busy days do result in me being very fatigued. My energy levels do dip quite badly, living with disabilities does mean doing things differently and adapting and I have found that every day has its own set of challenges where it comes to my physical weaknesses. However I have found that when I lean on God he always gives me enough strength for each day.

Book excerpt: Neuropsychologist Offers Hope to Those Struggling with Depression As a board-certified neuropsychologist, Dr. Michelle Bengtson sees the devastation of depression. Early on, she practiced the most effective treatments and prescribed them for her clients. But when she experienced depression herself, she found that the treatments she had recommended were lacking. Her experience showed her the missing component in treating depression. In Hope Prevails, Dr. Bengtson writes with deep compassion, blending her training and faith, to offer readers a hope grounded in God's love and grace. She helps readers understand what depression is, how it affects them spiritually, and what, by God's grace, it cannot do. The result is an approach that offers the hope of release, not just the management of symptoms. For those who struggle with depression and those who want to help them, Hope Prevails offers hope for the future.

Book excerpt: In his letter to his protégé, Timothy, Paul says, "I have fought the good fight." In Arabic, those last three words are translated jihad. In Secret Believers, readers are introduced to Brother Andrew's protégé in the Muslim world, Butros. In this riveting true story of the Middle Eastern Church struggling to come to grips with hostile governments, terrorist acts, and an influx of Muslims coming to Christ, readers will meet a group of men and women they never knew existed. The names and places have been changed to protect the real people in the real places. But the stories are true. In his most incredible and eye-opening book to date, Brother Andrew invites you to meet: • Ahmed, a young Muslim terrified by nightmares until he is introduced to Isa (Jesus) • Mustafa, a former leader in a fundamentalist Muslim movement that persecuted Christians • Salima, a privileged young Muslim woman who is held captive by her family when they find a Bible in her possession • Abuna, a priest faced with an aging congregation and constant threats to his beloved church • and many more. Secret Believers not only gives readers a glimpse of the lives of these courageous believers, it also proposes four practical initiatives for Christians in the West to help these persecuted brothers and sisters. It calls us to join this new kind of jihad, leaving vengeance behind in favor of forgiveness, radical love, and unyielding prayer.

Book Making it Through a Storm

Download or read book Making it Through a Storm written by Rev. Dr. Terry Thomas and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-05-18 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All people, at some point in their lives, will come upon difficult and trying circumstances that are traditionally characterized as a storm. As much as we try, with great-valiant effort, to avoid certain things, no one can avoid the inevitable storm or storms that will occur in their life. Storms are just part of the human condition, and we are either coming out of a storm, in a storm, or heading for a storm. Since we know that storms are one of life’s certainties, we should prepare to deal with them by equipping ourselves with the necessary knowledge and skills. This is an imperative statement because if you are not prepared to deal with a storm, then your life can easily be ripped apart by it. In a very short period of time, a storm can quietly and quickly remove things in your life that have taken you a lifetime to acquire. You can be a very secure person, but if you are not prepared, a storm can uproot values that once nurtured and upheld your life, like a stalwart tree uprooted from the ground. Therefore, if you want to know the things to do to make it through a storm, Making It through a Storm is a book that you will want to read. This book takes a look at what a group of people in 27th chapter of Acts did, who made it successfully through a severe storm, to learn the fundamental principles that one needs to embrace to make it through a storm. Making It through a Storm will share with you some very insightful, surprising, inspirational and delightful things that will help you make it through a storm in manner that will strengthen and enhance your life. Personal storms are common, but pertinent aids to help us in understanding and surmounting them are rare indeed. This book is one such rare aid, and its pages are filled with wisdom shared from a warm heart. Book Growing through the Storm

Download or read book Growing through the Storm written by Sheila Malsam and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-04-19 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So often we think God doesn't hear us during our struggles when we cry out to Him. Like many, after praying and not getting a response, I thought it was up to me to find the solutions and answers to struggles I encountered. As a result of my ignorance, I replaced God and His power with what I thought were answers that weren't the answers after all. Growing through the Storm is a story of triumphs and lessons learned while trying to find solutions to unwanted circumstances during not one, but two troubled marriages. I share how I clung to attachments such as doubt, fear, worry, self-pity, blame, insecurity, and unworthiness that kept me from receiving what God had in store for me. I share how God revealed Himself to me through the storm and how He used my pain to grow me stronger, wiser, and more confident of His love which led me to an awakening in my spirit and a personal relationship with our Lord. Unfortunately, many of us are guilty of living the life that I used to live. If that's you, it doesn't have to be this way. I invite you to take a journey with me by reading my story and trusting that you, too, can be made anew, strengthened, and blessed by turning to Jesus, surrendering your all to Him, and discovering His amazing grace and love He has for you. Growing through the Storm includes points to ponder at the end of each chapter with thought-provoking questions and comments including scripture and prayer for personal reflection. I pray my story infuses your heart to put your hope in Jesus and His promises to believe, "With God all things are possible," as promised in Matthew 19:26 (NIV) when asked according to His will in His name! Be blessed and be a blessing!

In Beyond the Storm, Debra Morton reveals why, providing the techniques and strategies that helped her and many others not only survive but also thrive, even in the most painful of circumstances. That playbook is here for you to use immediately, along with interactive tools, journaling questions, and scripture studies that will guide you through pain and struggle and into strength and victory once again. Book Harbinger of the Storm

Download or read book Harbinger of the Storm written by Aliette de Bodard and published by Jabberwocky Literary Agency, Inc.. This book was released on 2016-01-05 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second book in the critically acclaimed Obsidian and Blood trilogy: The year is Two House, and the Emperor of the Mexica has just died. The protections he afforded the Empire are crumbling, and the way lies wide open to the flesh-eating star-demons--and to the return of their creator, a malevolent goddess only held in check by the War God's power. The council should convene to choose a new Emperor, but they are too busy plotting against each other. And then someone starts summoning star-demons within the palace, to kill councilmen... Acatl, High Priest of the Dead, must find the culprit before everything is torn apart. REVIEWS: ‘Political intrigue and rivalry among a complex pantheon of divinities drive this well-paced murder mystery set at the height of the Aztec Empire in the late 15th century. De Bodard reintroduces the series hero Acatl, high priest of the dead, immediately following the death of the Tenochtitlan leader. One of the council members in charge of choosing a successor has been brutally murdered in what looks like an attempt to influence the decision. But the deaths continue and the political situation grows more complex, while the empire looks to be increasingly at risk of invasion by malignant powers. Acatl must go face-to-face with the most powerful god in his world and put the good of the empire above his antipathy for is rivals to achieve the uneasy succession. De Bodard incorporates historical fact with great ease and manages the rare feat of explaining complex culture and political system without lecturing or boring the reader.’ —Publishers Weekly ‘Another thing that intrigues me here is the whole fact that historically we know that the real empire died out mysteriously and completely and as such there is always that thought in the back of my mind that the author could choose to bring about the end of days. That highlighted sense of possible doom is something that is missing from too many novels. The way the story is told in this book is very impressive, the plot is both mature and seductive, twisting and turning like a weather vane in a force 9 gale while the action is both bloodthirsty and imaginative. The world building is fantastic and we get to learn even more of this rich culture and the many gods and creatures of the dark. I really can’t fault this book at all and recommend it to one and all but if you haven’t yet read Servant of the Underworld I suggest that you get them both and read them in order, you won’t be disappointed.’ —SF Book Reviews ‘Bodard’s writing is polished and striking, as she convincingly fills in the colorful elements of the Aztec culture–even if those colors tend to be of blood and bile as well as flowers and hummingbirds... beautiful, grimy, breathtaking, and morbid. 5*’ —Examiner ‘Aliette de Bodard has done it again. Harbinger of the Storm is an action packed Aztec mystery opera with magic, interventions from the gods and more twists and turns than the first book. It even has a love story with amusing snippets here and there... The story is self contained and can be enjoyed standalone, but you will not want to miss out on the first. I wish it was 2012 already even if the world is going under while I read the final Obsidian & Blood.’ —Cybermage

Book A Shelter in the Time of Storm

Download or read book A Shelter in the Time of Storm written by Paul David Tripp and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2009-03-26 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fifty-two meditations on Psalm 27 instruct and encourage believers to worship God through the ups and downs of life. Psalm 27 is a psalm of trouble and worship, of difficulty and beauty, of the evil of people against people, and of the mercy of God. Because of its honesty about life in this fallen world, Psalm 27 speaks into the life of every believer. At the same time it places joyful and self-sacrificing worship right next to the trouble that is the psalm's background theme. This juxtaposition makes Psalm 27 unique, interesting, practical, challenging, and encouraging. A Shelter in the Time of Storm takes readers through this roller-coaster-ride of a psalm in fifty-two brief and engaging meditations. These meditations are designed to fill hearts with a patient hope that grows stronger as the trouble-spotted days go by. Reflection questions at the end of the chapter make these meditations thought-provoking and practical.

Book Going Through the Storm of Your Life

Download or read book Going Through the Storm of Your Life written by Vonya Knighton Green and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2011-03 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you going through an unbelievable crisis in your life and don't know what to do? Well there is an answer for you. You can make it through this horrible time. In life we all must go through storms that either make us stronger or break us. Don't let the storm overtake you. You can make it through the storm if you don't give up. This book was written for you so you can go through your crisis, problem, disaster - storm - VICTORIOUSLY! As an Earth Science Teacher for several years, I have taught sixth graders about the different storms on our Earth such as tornadoes, hurricanes, and thunderstorms. God gave me a revelation that just as a physical storm on Earth goes through several stages, a spiritual storm will take you through these same stages. In this book, I compare the stages of a spiritual storm to that of a physical storm. Most importantly in reading this book, you will learn how to weather the storm and know what to do at each stage so you can become a stronger, more spiritual person. In this book I include steps to take when going through a crisis. There are several similarities between a spiritual and physical storm. We eventually recover from a hurricane, tornado, or flood and we can also recover from a spiritual storm or crisis. It may take time but if we are diligent and don't give up we can come out of the storm victoriously.
