Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The India's Political Apparatus did not look more intimidating to a citizen and a citizen never weaker. Massive protests against corruption failing to yield an inch from government. On the 2012 Coal Scam, Shinde our home minister head of CBI commented shamelessly "Our coal blackened hands would be clean once we wash our hands". And the anti-corruption protests, that supposedly made more people come out on streets protesting than during Quit India Movement, got diluted and tired with progress of time and with splits. People never looked so helpless. Will we remain locked with this apparatus for-ever? Can revolutions happen in this vastly divisive and diverse country? Is there a better political solution possibility? This idea seeks to explore and make all those young, poor, thinking, middle class citizens of India to think and have a fresh look at Democracy. Bring back pride and honour into Politics and make everyone come together to get the governance actually change. The changes that they all wish and dream for.

Book The Uncaged Sky

Download or read book The Uncaged Sky written by Kylie Moore-Gilbert and published by Hardie Grant Publishing. This book was released on 2022-03-30 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shortlisted for The Age Book of the Year for Non Fiction Shortlisted for the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Non-fiction 2023 ‘The sky above our heads was uncaged and unlike us, free.’ The extraordinary true story of Kylie Moore-Gilbert’s fight to survive 804 days imprisoned in Iran. On September 12, 2018 British-Australian academic Kylie Moore-Gilbert was arrested at Tehran Airport by Iran’s feared Islamic Revolutionary Guards. Convicted of espionage in a shadowy trial presided over by Iran’s most notorious judge, Dr Moore-Gilbert was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Incarcerated in Tehran’s Evin and Qarchak prisons for 804 days, this is the full and gripping account of her harrowing ordeal. Held in a filthy solitary confinement cell for months, and subjected to relentless interrogation, Kylie was pushed to the limits of her endurance by extreme physical and psychological deprivation. Kylie’s only lifeline was the covert friendships she made with other prisoners inside the Revolutionary Guards’ maximum-security compound where she had been ‘disappeared’, communicating in great danger through the air vents between cells, and by hiding secret letters in hava khori, the narrow outdoor balcony where she was led, blindfolded, for a solitary hour each day. Cut off from the outside world, Kylie realised she alone had the power to change the dynamics of her incarceration. To survive, she began to fight back, adopting a strategy of resistance with her captors. Multiple hunger strikes, letters smuggled to the media, co-ordinated protests with other prisoners and a daring escape attempt led to her transfer to the isolated desert prison, Qarchak, to live among convicted criminals. On November 25, 2020, after more than two years of struggle, Kylie was finally released in a high stakes three-nation prisoner swap deal orchestrated by the Australian government, laying bare the complex game of global politics in which she had become a valuable pawn. Written with extraordinary insight and vivid immediacy, The Uncaged Sky is Kylie Moore-Gilbert’s remarkable story of courage and resilience, and a powerful meditation on hope, solidarity and what it means to be free. 'immensely readable' – The Sydney Morning Herald 'reads like an espionage thriller' – The Australian 'stunning' – Osher Günsberg 'brilliant’ – Mia Freedman 'utterly engrossing' – Australian Book Review ‘Kylie Moore-Gilbert is one pretty remarkable woman’ – Sarah Abo ‘There are no heroes and villains in The Uncaged Sky … only human beings. The depth of Moore-Gilbert’s empathy for the human condition is extraordinary … [She] sees deeply into the complexity of the human tragedy, and she writes of it with the compelling clarity of genius.’ – Alex Miller, author of A Brief Affair ‘Moments in her memoir The Uncaged Sky will leave readers breathless. The sheer terror, uncertainty and gnawing dread of a brutal regime closing in all around ... Powerfully and artfully written, the book has moments of joy shining through: the loving friendships made inside prison; the exhilaration of “escaping” to that uncaged sky, standing on the prison roof; and the strength Moore-Gilbert found to defy her captors amid the ceaseless cruelty of her incarceration.’ – Ben Doherty, The Guardian ‘The Uncaged Sky is a brilliant and powerful book.’ – Ann Cunningham, Booktopia ‘a remarkable story of courage’ – The Canberra Times

Book Community Ecology

  • Release : 2010
  • ISBN : 0199228973
  • Pages : 266 pages

Download or read book Community Ecology written by Herman A. Verhoef and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Community ecology is the study of the interactions between populations of co-existing species. Co-edited by two prominent community ecologists and featuring contributions from top researchers in the field, this book provides a survey of the state-of-the-art in both the theory and applications of the discipline. It pays special attention to topology, dynamics, and the importance of spatial and temporal scale while also looking at applications to emerging problems in human-dominated ecosystems (including the restoration and reconstruction of viable communities). Community Ecology: Processes, Models, and Applications adopts a mainly theoretical approach and focuses on the use of network-based theory, which remains little explored in standard community ecology textbooks. The book includes discussion of the effects of biotic invasions on natural communities; the linking of ecological network structure to empirically measured community properties and dynamics; the effects of evolution on community patterns and processes; and the integration of fundamental interactions into ecological networks. A final chapter indicates future research directions for the discipline.

Book Higher Education Accessibility Behind and Beyond Prison Walls

Download or read book Higher Education Accessibility Behind and Beyond Prison Walls written by McMay, Dani V. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-04-17 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous studies indicate that completing a college degree reduces an individual’s likelihood of recidivating. However, there is little research available to inform best practices for running college programs inside jails or prisons or supporting returning citizens who want to complete a college degree. Higher Education Accessibility Behind and Beyond Prison Walls examines program development and pedagogical techniques in the area of higher education for students who are currently incarcerated or completing a degree post-incarceration. Drawing on the experiences of program administrators and professors from across the country, it offers best practices for (1) developing, running, and teaching in college programs offered inside jails and prisons and (2) providing adequate support to returning citizens who wish to complete a college degree. This book is intended to be a resource for college administrators, staff, and professors running or teaching in programs inside jails or prisons or supporting returning citizens on traditional college campuses.

Book Tip of the Spear

Download or read book Tip of the Spear written by Orisanmi Burton and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A radical reinterpretation of "Attica," the revolutionary 1970s uprising that galvanized abolitionist movements and transformed prisons. Tip of the Spear boldly and compellingly argues that prisons are a domain of hidden warfare within US borders. With this book, Orisanmi Burton explores what he terms the Long Attica Revolt, a criminalized tradition of Black radicalism that propelled rebellions in New York prisons during the 1970s. The reaction to this revolt illuminates what Burton calls prison pacification: the coordinated tactics of violence, isolation, sexual terror, propaganda, reform, and white supremacist science and technology that state actors use to eliminate Black resistance within and beyond prison walls. Burton goes beyond the state records that other histories have relied on for the story of Attica and expands that archive, drawing on oral history and applying Black radical theory in ways that center the intellectual and political goals of the incarcerated people who led the struggle. Packed with little-known insights from the prison movement, the Black Panther Party, and the Black Liberation Army, Tip of the Spear promises to transform our understanding of prisons--not only as sites of race war and class war, of counterinsurgency and genocide, but also as sources of defiant Black life, revolutionary consciousness, and abolitionist possibility.
