The book presents papers that discuss the properties of various metals and alloys. The text contains 133 studies, which are grouped into six sections. The first section covers the work hardening consolidation, while the second section discusses anisotropy and texture. The third section tackles the solute hardening and alloy theory, and the fourth section covers precipitation hardening. The fifth section discusses martensitic and phase transformations, and the sixth section deals with creep resistance. The book will be of great interest to researchers and professionals whose work requires knowledge about the properties of metals and alloys.

Book Strength of Metals and Alloys ICSMA 6

Download or read book Strength of Metals and Alloys ICSMA 6 written by R C Gifkins and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-02 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strength of Metals and Alloys (ICSMA 6), Volume 1 contains the proceedings of the 6th International Conference on the Strength of Metals and Alloys held in Melbourne, Australia, on August 16-20, 1982. The conference provided a forum for reviewing advances that have been made with regards to the strength of metals and alloys and tackled topics ranging from cross-slip and work hardening to alloy design for strength. High strain and high strain rate processes are also discussed. Comprised of 88 chapters, this volume begins with an introduction to the fundamentals of strengthening mechanisms, such as the temperature and strain rate dependence of the flow stress of fatigued niobium single crystals and the mechanism of slip transfer across high angle grain boundaries. Subsequent chapters focus on the behavior of dislocations near a free surface; the strength of polycrystals; void damage in dual phase steels during plastic deformation; and the dynamic strain aging of cast iron. Shear band deformation process in metallic glasses is also examined. This book will be of interest to engineers, metallurgists, and materials scientists.

Book Advances in Fracture Research

Download or read book Advances in Fracture Research written by K. Salama and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 3063 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Held every four years, the International Congress on Fracture is the premier international forum for the exchange of ideas between scientists and engineers involved in producing and using materials resistant to fracture and fatigue. This major six-volume work which forms the proceedings of the Seventh International Congress on Fracture therefore provides the most comprehensive account available of the current status of research into fracture and fatigue, and the application of this knowledge to the design, fabrication and operation of materials and structures. As such, it will be an essential reference for materials scientists and mechanical, structural, aeronautical and design engineers with an interest in fracture and its prevention.

Download or read book Stability of Materials written by A. Gonis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering materials with desirable physical and technological properties requires understanding and predictive capability of materials behavior under varying external conditions, such as temperature and pressure. This immediately brings one face to face with the fundamental difficulty of establishing a connection between materials behavior at a microscopic level, where understanding is to be sought, and macroscopic behavior which needs to be predicted. Bridging the corresponding gap in length scales that separates the ends of this spectrum has been a goal intensely pursued by theoretical physicists, experimentalists, and metallurgists alike. Traditionally, the search for methods to bridge the length scale gap and to gain the needed predictive capability of materials properties has been conducted largely on a trial and error basis, guided by the skill of the metallurgist, large volumes of experimental data, and often ad hoc semi phenomenological models. This situation has persisted almost to this day, and it is only recently that significant changes have begun to take place. These changes have been brought about by a number of developments, some of long standing, others of more recent vintage.

Book excerpt: This book contains 12 chapters with original and innovative research studies in the issues related to the broadly defined creep effect, which concerns not only the area of construction materials but also natural phenomena. The emphasis on the discussion of a new trend of experimental creep testing, which binds the classic creep methods to seek the correlation of parameters obtained in tests, deserves particular attention. This book aims to provide the readers, including, but not limited to, students and doctoral students and also the research personnel and engineers involved in the operation of equipment and structural components as well as specialists in high-temperature creep-resisting materials, with a comprehensive review of new trends in the field of creep-exposed materials and their research methodology. The chapters of this book were developed by respected and well-known researchers from different countries.
