Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the though that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemi nation. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 37 (thesis year 1992) a total of 12,549 thesis titles from 25 Canadian and 153 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 37 reports theses submitted in 1992, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Mesozoic Stratigraphy Sedimentary Evolution and Petroleum Potential of the Jeanne D Arc Basin Grand Banks of New Foundland

Download or read book Mesozoic Stratigraphy Sedimentary Evolution and Petroleum Potential of the Jeanne D Arc Basin Grand Banks of New Foundland written by K. D. McAlpine and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jeanne d'Arc Basin, located at the northeastern part of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, is a Mesozoic failed-rift basin containing more than 22 km of sedimentary fill. Despite vigorous exploration activity initiated by the discovery of the giant-class Hibernia oil field in 1979, the lithostratigraphic nomenclature is not yet standard. This has led to a plethora of lithostratigraphies used by various industry groups, government agencies, and academia, a situation that has caused communication problems. A new lithostratigraphic nomenclature is proposed for the Mesozoic rocks older than the Late Cretaceous Dawson Canyon formation, consisting of 17 formations (14 new), 3 members (new) and 2 markers (new).

Book Quaternary Stratigraphy and Geomorphology of the Fort St John Area Northeastern British Columbia

Download or read book Quaternary Stratigraphy and Geomorphology of the Fort St John Area Northeastern British Columbia written by William Henry Mathews and published by Department of Mines and Petroleum Resources. This book was released on 1963 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unconsolidated sediments in the Fort. St. John area include a twice repeated succession of gravel overlain by sand, silt, and clay, and each of these in t urn be till of eastern origin. Both succession are interpreted as: (1) gravel laid down by Peace River during or at the close of interglacial (and preglacial?) intervals, (2) fine sediments laid down in lakes ponded in Peace River valley by ice advancing from the east, and (3) till laid down after ice reached Fort St. John area. The younger till [early Wisconsin (?)] is covered by sediments, chiefly clay, from a series of proglacial lakes, and by local postglacial deposits. The topography of the uplands reflects the form of the stream-eroded Cretaceous bedrock, modified slightly by glacial erosion and by the deposition of a thin mantle of till. Landform at intermediate levels is determined largely by sediments which were deposited in proglacial lakes both preceding and following the last glaciation from the east. Since the draining of the last proglacial lake Peace River has cut a trench 700 feet deep below the lake floor and 150 to 250 feet below its interglacial channel. Lice from the Cordilleran area reached to within 15 miles of Fort St. John, overriding areas from which the early Wisconsin (?) eastern ice had already withdrawn. The Quaternary history here is important in localizing the few available aquifers for shallow farm wells, and may have significantly influenced migration of early man into central North America.

Book Stratigraphy Sedimentology and Depositional Environments of the Coal bearing Jurassic Cretaceous Kootenay Group Alberta and British Columbia

Download or read book Stratigraphy Sedimentology and Depositional Environments of the Coal bearing Jurassic Cretaceous Kootenay Group Alberta and British Columbia written by D. W. Gibson and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strata of the Kootenay Group are of economic interest because of their potential as important sources of thermal and metallurgical coal in Western Canada. This bulletin provides substantial new information and data on the Kootenay Group in the form of text, isopach maps and cross-sections, and numerous illustrations of lithofacies, lithofacies relationships, age, correlation, rank, distribution and continuity of coal seams, sedimentology, and the major environment of deposition in the Rocky Mountain Foothills and Front Ranges. A regional geological model is presented that will be of assistance in assessing the quality and potential of coal resources in the Kootenay Group in Alberta and British Columbia.

Download or read book Proterozoic Stratigraphy of Northeastern British Columbia written by R. T. Bell and published by R. Duhamel. This book was released on 1968 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the summers of 1963 to 1965 about 25,000 square miles of northeastern British Columbia adjacent to the District of Mackenzie and the Yukon Territory were mapped by the Geological Survey during Operation Liard, an aircraft-supported reconnaissance mapping program. About 1,700 square miles of the area is underlain by strata of Proterozoic age. This preliminary report presents some of the measured sections and defines seven rock-stratigraphic units.
