Book Training lay members for settling new members into the church

Download or read book Training lay members for settling new members into the church written by Se Lin Choi and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The project is about training lay members for settling new members into the church. The researcher pointed out the problem of settling new members in Immanuel Church and presented the solution for the problem. New members register in the church, but their settlement rate is rather low. In addition, untrained lay-members are still in their immature faith. In order to solve these problems, the researcher made the plan to training lay-believers who are potential resources in the church and raise them as ministers. The researcher presented the problem in Immanuel Church, and he defined the background of the project and the terms. In the researcher's project, the researcher considered biblical, theological and historical bases for training lay-members for settling new members. For the biblical basis of the Old Testaments, the researcher examined ministry allotment of Moses, 70-elder system of Moses and how Samuel and prophet pupils were trained in lay-ministry. For the biblical basis of the New Testament, the researcher examined how lay-believer training was conducted through Jesus and His disciples, 7 deacons in the early church and Ephesians 4. As an historical basis, the researcher examined how John Wesley conducted lay-believer training. As theological basis, the researcher ... studied lay-believers' identity and mission in the church community for training lay-members for settling new members, and he considered the meaning and purpose of lay-believers' position and mission in the church. The researcher studied the theoretical aspect of the project and practical aspect of lay-believer training by comparing similar projects about lay believer training and nurturing and settlement through lay-members. The researcher also examined actual cases of churches that succeeded in lay-believer training. Such study seems to set practical and desirable direction for settling new members through lay-believer training. Lay-minister training for settling new members includes the areas of importance of settling new members, personal quality, faith quality, expectation and desire and development of relationship. The training period of lay-leaders was conducted for 10 weeks, and the content of the education included 10 lessons. Sample group of 24 people was organized to measure the result of the training, and survey form with 32 questions was made. Twelve people were allotted to the treatment group, and 12 people were allotted to the control group. Training result was measured by having the two groups answer identical survey forms before and after the training. The result of the lay minister training was confirmed based on the survey results. Lay-members realized the importance of settling new comers through the training. Lay-members' personal quality was changed. They understood growth as they changed through the training and experienced grace. They formed a sense of community that is necessary for settling new members. Fellowships were promoted to have good relationships with new members. In conclusion, lay members ministry for settling new members is to train lay-members and nurture them with right faith so that they can live according to God's purpose. Through settlement of new members and continuous lay-believer ministry, the church will become healthy and become more dynamic than before. The researcher theologically discussed how the lay-minister training for settling new members is meaningful to pastors, lay-members and churches along with the direction of lay-believer ministry "--Abstract.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this thesis is to develop a strategic process for leader development utilizing small groups at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas. The development of lay leaders will determine the efforts of starting and sustaining small groups and ministry efforts in the local church. The structure of groups and the strategy to develop leaders should be a replicable system formulated within biblical parameters. The biblical research is concentrated toward the methods practiced by Jesus with his disciples. Biblical discipleship is examined for the purpose of assessing adequate organization that cultivate leader development and group multiplication. Effective small group systems will be identified for the purpose of leader development and group multiplication at Green Acres Baptist Church. The efforts of multiplication will cease to occur if leaders are not adequately equipped and trained to begin new small groups. Book Nine Keys to Effective Small Group Leadership

Download or read book Nine Keys to Effective Small Group Leadership written by Carl George and published by . This book was released on 2007-04-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A survey of resources about small groups at the beginning of the 1990s led to a discovery: Many books on small groups carried an instructional content and touched on groups as instrumental in delivery of that specific subject matter. How a leader was to function relative to a group was discussed as a matter of how to manage an instructional hour. The potential of groups for making connections and building community and serving others was largely unrecognized. What a group leader might do to pull together and maintain a group, or how a group leader might become acknowledged as part of a larger leadership strategy for service and outreach was simply unaddressed. From the insights developed in his complex and widely recommended Prepare Your Church for the Future, best-selling author Carl George extracts the most basic, practical elements of how an individual leader can contribute to the well-being of others and the overall organization. He interprets the role of a group leader in language that is easily understood and remembered: nine commitments leading to a partnership with professional church leaders. Pastors and church consultants consistently report that the people exposed to these nine keys are easy to work with. They readily grasp the reasonableness of the principles, which help them be trustworthy team players in this matter of shared ministry. From the forward, by Robert Coleman, Director of the Billy Graham Institute: "This book speaks to our need for practical leadership training. With profound simplicity, it describes how small groups grow through loving relationships as readers build up one another in the faith. More importantly, the reader learn ways to prepare yourself for leadership in the group. The sequential steps show readers how to bring others into the circle of love, and in the process, how to enlarge your outreach by multiplying disciple makers." This 2007 edition includes an updated Appendix, describing recent developments in the fi

Book excerpt: "I continue to dream and pray about a revival of holiness in our day that moves forth in mission and creates authentic community in which each person can be unleashed through the empowerment of the Spirit to fulfil God's creational intentions." So speaks John Wesley. His words are as relevant today as they were when he first wrote them. He saw something of his prayers answered as his movement of small groups known as classes empowered and transformed the lives of those who attended them. This in turn spilled out in to the lives of these faithful people and turned the country upside down for Gods kingdom. As we see God at work in our day, many of us are praying a similar prayer as we see the two things God is doing. Firstly moving the church from an attractional model to a missional model where everybody is equipped and empowered to reach their friends, families and to serve their neighbourhoods. Secondly, the Holy Spirit is moving us from a leader centric church to people power; the equipping and motivating of individual members for discipleship for life, for mission, for ministry. So the training of small group leaders and assistants becomes imperative in seeing the mission of the church work, and a key function in the empowering, supporting and developing of ministry in church members.
