Leadership styles, follower characteristics, organisational structure and environmental responsibilities, systems, and audits had an impact on level of response. The functional areas of production, exploration, marketing, human resources, environment, public affairs, resource allocation and legal affairs responded to the external pressures in a variety of inconsistent ways.
