Book Animal Leadership

Download or read book Animal Leadership written by Todd Connor and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-12 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meet Bear and Turtle: one is a teacher with profound insight into survival and success in the forest, the other an eager student, new to the idea of self-examination. These two animals set out into the forest, meeting up with various friends and observing the animal kingdom at work. The animals are at times witty, sarcastic, and fun-loving, but their lessons are always interesting and unconventional. Animal Leadership invites you to view your own world through a different lens. These five parables of leadership are presented with a clarity that will have you thinking about these animals' situations, long after you are done reading about them. Consider this: you don't want to work less, you actually want to work more; it's the small guy, not the big guy, who has the advantage; and entrepreneurs find needs, not ideas. These are just a few of the lessons to be learned in the forest. Animal Leadership is a book about embracing adversity, finding opportunity, and not settling for average. If you are looking to break out of a mold, start a new career, or work towards a passion of yours, then join Turtle and Bear as they begin their own journey.

Book Life Strategies Human Evolution Environmental Design

Download or read book Life Strategies Human Evolution Environmental Design written by V. Geist and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consider that you were asked how to ensure human survival. Where would you begin? Conservation of resources jumps to mind. We need to conserve resources in order that economic activities may continue. Alas, this is a false start. Resources are always defined by a given economic system, and only it determines what is and what is not a resource. Therefore, conserving resources implies only the perpetua tion of the appropriate economic system. Conservation of resources as we know them has nothing to do with the survival of mankind, but it has very much to do with the survival of the industrial system and society we live in today. We have to start, therefore, at a more basic level. This level, some may argue, is addressed by ensuring for human beings "clean genes. " Again, this is a mistaken beginning. It is thoroughly mistaken-for reasons of science. It is a false start because malfunctioning organs and morphological structures are not only due to deleterious hereditary factors but particularly due to unfavorable environments during early growth and development. Moreover, eugenics is not acceptable to any but a small fraction of society. Eugenics may not be irrelevant to our future, but is premature and should be of little concern until we understand how human genes and environment interact.

Book Business Ethics After the Global Financial Crisis

Download or read book Business Ethics After the Global Financial Crisis written by Christopher Cowton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-31 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global financial crisis (GFC) that began in 2007 concentrated attention on the morality of banking and financial activities. Just as mainstream businesses became increasingly defined by their financial performance, banks, it seemed, got themselves – and everyone else – into trouble through an over-emphasis on themselves as commercial enterprises that need pay little attention to traditional banking virtues or ethics. While the GFC had many causes, criticism was legitimately levelled at banks over the ethics of mortgage creation, excessive securitisation, executive remuneration, and high-pressure customer sales tactics, amongst other things. These criticisms mirror those that have been levelled at the business more generally, particular in the last decade, although the backdrop provided by the GFC is more dramatic, and the outcomes of supposed wrongdoing more severe. This book focuses on business ethics after the GFC; not on the crisis itself, but how we should respond to it. The GFC has focused minds on the proper role of ethics in the understanding and conduct of business activity, but it is essential to look beyond the crisis to address the deeper challenges that it highlights. The aim of this volume is to present examples of the latest philosophically-informed thinking across a range of ethical issues that relate to business activity, using the banks and the GFC – the consequences of which continue to reverberate – as a point of departure. The book will be of great value to researchers, academics, practitioners, and students interested in business, ethics in general, and business ethics in particular.
