In the paper, an overview of the Zorlu Energy is given and to understand the current situation, a SWOT Analysis is done followed by an environmental scan, using the PESTEL and Porter’s Five Forces Analyses. After that TOWS Analysis is done for the generation of SO, TO, WO and TW strategies. All the strategies are tested from suitability, acceptability and feasibility point of view. Finally, the selected strategy and the reasons for the selection of it are explained and compared to current strategy of the company and also the organizational structure of Zorlu Energy is examined for the implementation of the proposed strategy.

The Bavarian automobile manufacturer BMW is one of these highly regarded and ven-erated automobile brands. The enterprise BMW Group assert their top position in the premium segment with a new record in global sales of about 2.1 million automobiles in 2014. The additional brand MINI could hold the level of its sales from the previous year and, for the first time, Rolls Royce Motor Cars was able to increase the sales over 4.000 units in 2014, and thus assert the position as the market leader in the absolute luxury segment. Hawranek (2008) and Reithofer, chief executive of BMW, (BMW Group, 2015) emphasise that the company remain faithful to its strategy to continuously hold the position as the world’s top seller in the premium class. The elaboration will present an environmental analysis of the BMW Group in the automotive industry with help of the principles of a PESTEL-Analysis. After a general over-view of the automotive industry in the 21st century in chapter 2, each point of the PESTEL-analysis will be processed separately in chapter 3. The conclusion in chapter 4 in-cludes the results, an overall assessment of the BMW Group and recommendations considering the focus of the business strategy.

Book excerpt: In the wake of the Great Recession of 2008–09, economists feared that protectionist policies might sweep the world economy, echoing the wave of tariff escalations during the Great Depression of the 1930s. To some surprise, officials were more restrained and largely avoided traditional forms of protection (tariffs and quotas), leading some observers to underestimate the incidence of new protectionism. In fact, policymakers increasingly turned to more opaque behind-the-border nontariff barriers (NTBs). Using a combination of statistical analysis and case studies, the authors show that local content requirements (LCRs), a form of NTB, have become increasingly popular. How much was global trade actually reduced on account of LCRs? A conservative estimate might be $93 billion. Case studies featured cover the healthcare sector in Brazil, wind turbines in Canada, the automobile industry in China, solar cells and modules in India, oil and gas in Nigeria, and “Buy American” restrictions on government procurement in the United States.
