Book Strange Particle Production in Neutrino neon Charged Current Interactions

Download or read book Strange Particle Production in Neutrino neon Charged Current Interactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neutral strange particle production in charged-current muon-neutrino interactions have been studied in the Fermilab 15-foot neon bubble chamber. Associated production is expected to be the major source of strange particles in charged-current neutrino interactions. sigma-neutral and xi-minus production by neutrinos was observed. The dependence on various leptonic and hadronic variables is investigated. A fit to single and associated production of s, s/anti-s, and c quarks is described based on the number of single and double strange particle production events. Inclusive neutral strange particle decays (V°) production rates as a fraction of all charged-current events are measured and are tabulated. The lambda/K ratio is found to be 0.39 +- 0.04 and the fraction of lambda coming from sigma-neutral is (16 +- 5)%. The single- and double V° production was used to determine the associated s anti-s production rate and single s-quark production rate. 13 refs., 7 figs., 3 tabs. (LEW).

Book Neutral D Meson Production in Neutrino Interactions

Download or read book Neutral D Meson Production in Neutrino Interactions written by Ali Murat Güler and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-09 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neutrinos and their interactions are of great interest in theoretical and experimental particle physics, resulting in many theoretical models and experiments in order to resolve their properties. This book focuses on charm production in the neutrino interactions. The analysis reported in this book is based on data collected by the CHORUS collaboration. Most of the data on charmed particle production by neutrinos has been obtained using large neutrino detectors. Usually the decay of a charmed particle is not seen directly, its presence is inferred from the observation of strange particles or final state leptons. This requires large background subtractions. Major advantages of emulsion techniques used in the CHORUS experiment are the ability to fully reconstruct event kinematics. This suppresses the large background that comes from the decays of kaons and pions. On the other hand there is a disadvantage: low statistics due to scanning load. The improvements in scanning systems and methods which have been done in the CHORUS collaboration, solved this problem. This book outlines the theoretical background for neutrino physics, the CHORUS Experiment and then data analysis.

Book Review of Multilepton Production in Neutrino Nucleon Interactions

Download or read book Review of Multilepton Production in Neutrino Nucleon Interactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emphasis in this review of multiplepton production in neutrino-nucleon interactions with regard to opposite sign dileptons is not on establishing their origin, but rather on the extent to which the new data expand on knowledge of charm production in neutrino interactions. In this regard, it is found that the opposite sign dilepton events are clearly consistent with being predominantly single charm production. There is now evidence in these data for charmed baryon as well as charmed meson production. Included in the survey are the theoretical expectations, rates for dilepton production by neutrinos and by antineutrinos, determination of the S-quark content of the nucleon, strange particle production in .mu.−e dilepton events, strange particle production in anti .nu. interactions, trilepton production, and the same-sign dilepton production. 33 references. Book Proceedings of the International Neutrino Conference Aachen 1976

Download or read book Proceedings of the International Neutrino Conference Aachen 1976 written by Helmut Faissner and published by Vieweg+teubner Verlag. This book was released on 1977 with total page 766 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Conference is one thing, its Proceedings is another issue. The 1976 Neutrino Conference at Aachen met with friendly approval, within and beyond the brotherhood of neutrino physicists. The generally well- informed "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" spoke of a "Sternstunde" of Science . . . And even without invoking the stars, we may register with some satisfaction that several important developments came to an end. "Charm is found " - hailed Alvaro de Rujula the most spectacular event of the Conference. The organizers held this opinion even before, as is evidenced by the Conference badge: a little aluminum tetra- hedron, symbolizing the four quarks, and fastened by a three-coloured string. In fact, the history of the discovery of charm goes a long way back, perhaps even back to the first CERN neutrino experiment in 1963/64, when indications of charged lepton pairs were recognized - long before charm was taken serious. Muon pairs were established by the Harvard-Pennsylvania-Wisconsin Group in 1974, and correctly inter- preted in terms of charm. At the Paris Neutrino Meeting in 1975 the BNL event came, confirming the con- nection with strangeness and suggesting charm production to occur at quite low energies.
