Book Austenitic Stainless Steels

Download or read book Austenitic Stainless Steels written by Wojciech Borek and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stainless steel is still one of the fastest growing materials. Today, the austenitic stainless steel with the classic composition of 18% Cr and 8% Ni (grade 304L) is still the most widely used by far in the world. The unique characteristic of stainless steel arises from three main factors. The versatility results from high corrosion resistance, excellent low- and high-temperature properties, high toughness, formability, and weldability. The long life of stainless steels has been proven in service in a wide range of environments, together with low maintenance costs compared to other highly alloyed metallic materials. The retained value of stainless steel results from the high intrinsic value and easy recycling. Stainless steel, especially of austenitic microstructure, plays a crucial role in achieving sustainable development nowadays, so it is also important for further generations.

Book Strain Hardening Effects on Fracture Toughness and Ductile Crack Growth in Austenitic Stainless Steels

Download or read book Strain Hardening Effects on Fracture Toughness and Ductile Crack Growth in Austenitic Stainless Steels written by P. Balladon and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influence of cyclic and monotonic strain hardening on fracture toughness and ductile crack growth properties of 316 L stainless steel is determined using JIc and J-R curves. Cyclic strain hardening is performed by cyclic loading at different levels during precracking of specimens used for J-R tests. Monotonic strain hardening is done by controlled hot rolling of plate steel. The results obtained show that the fracture toughness is decreased by both cyclic and monotonic strain hardening. This decrease mainly affects crack initiation resistance (JIc) in the case of cyclic loading and only slightly influences crack growth resistance (dJ/da). For monotonic strain hardening, both JIc and dJ/da are strongly reduced at room and elevated temperatures. An attempt is made to determine the main factors responsible for these effects.

Book The Mechanisms of Deformation and Work Hardening in Aisi Type 301 Stainless Steel

Download or read book The Mechanisms of Deformation and Work Hardening in Aisi Type 301 Stainless Steel written by W. F. Barclay and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mechanical properties of austenitic and martensitic stainless steels have been the subject of numerous research papers. The most complex types of materials, however, are the semiaustenitic steels which transform from austenite to martensite during plastic deformation. The most common commercial material which makes use of this characteristic is AISI Type 301. The research reported here had as its goal the determination of the mechanisms which control strain hardening and plastic deformation in commercially produced Type 301. The primary research tools used to reveal the mechanisms of deformation were the measurement of martensite forming during plastic deformation and the examination, by electron transmission and electron diffraction, of tension specimens deformed to various increments of plastic strain.

Book Strain Hardening Characteristics of Aluminum 1050A 70 30 Brass and Austenitic Stainless Steel Under Biaxial Loading

Download or read book Strain Hardening Characteristics of Aluminum 1050A 70 30 Brass and Austenitic Stainless Steel Under Biaxial Loading written by A. Makinde and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biaxial strain-hardening behaviors of aluminum, ?-brass, and austenitic stainless steel are characterized in plane and equibiaxial deformation paths using a novel low-cost biaxial device. These tests are complemented by conventional uniaxial tensile tests and by complex strain path studies consisting of uniaxial tension after biaxial pre-strain. The experimental results are analyzed and compared using two criteria of plasticity: von Mises and Hill. It is shown that different stress-strain curves obtained under different strain paths could not be correlated with the phenomenological yield criteria.

Book Cyclic plasticity modeling and multiaxial fatigue assessment for an austenitic steel

Download or read book Cyclic plasticity modeling and multiaxial fatigue assessment for an austenitic steel written by Jie Fang and published by Herbert Utz Verlag. This book was released on 2015-07-23 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present work aims at engineers and scientists in the field of computational mechanics of materials. The objective of this work is to develop a suitable constitutive law and apply it to study effects of cyclic loading and geometry on the fatigue assessment. Firstly, a systematical investigation on the mechanic behaviors of an austenitic stainless steel is carried out. Different multiaxial fatigue life prediction models are studied to assess fatigue damage. The Karim-Ohno kinematic hardening model is extended to incorporate more complex mechanical behaviors. The proposed constitutive model is implemented into FEM code ABAQUS. Finally a computational fatigue analysis methodology is proposed for performing life prediction of notched components based on elastic-plastic computation.

Book Mechanical Properties and Working of Metals and Alloys

Download or read book Mechanical Properties and Working of Metals and Alloys written by Amit Bhaduri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-12 with total page 758 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to serve as core text or handy reference on two key areas of metallic materials: (i) mechanical behavior and properties evaluated by mechanical testing; and (ii) different types of metal working or forming operations to produce useful shapes. The book consists of 16 chapters which are divided into two parts. The first part contains nine chapters which describe tension (including elastic stress – strain relation, relevant theory of plasticity, and strengthening methods), compression, hardness, bending, torsion – pure shear, impact loading, creep and stress rupture, fatigue, and fracture. The second part is composed of seven chapters and covers fundamentals of mechanical working, forging, rolling, extrusion, drawing of flat strip, round bar, and tube, deep drawing, and high-energy rate forming. The book comprises an exhaustive description of mechanical properties evaluated by testing of metals and metal working in sufficient depth and with reasonably wide coverage. The book is written in an easy-to-understand manner and includes many solved problems. More than 150 numerical problems and many multiple choice questions as exercise along with their answers have also been provided. The mathematical analyses are well elaborated without skipping any intermediate steps. Slab method of analysis or free-body equilibrium approach is used for the analytical treatment of mechanical working processes. For hot working processes, different frictional conditions (sliding, sticking and mixed sticking–sliding) have been considered to estimate the deformation loads. In addition to the slab method of analysis, this book also contains slip-line field theory, its application to the static system, and the steady state motion, Further, this book includes upper-bound theorem, and upper-bound solutions for indentation, compression, extrusion and strip drawing. The book can be used to teach graduate and undergraduate courses offered to students of mechanical, aerospace, production, manufacturing and metallurgical engineering disciplines. The book can also be used for metallurgists and practicing engineers in industry and development courses in the metallurgy and metallic manufacturing industries.
