The author has been long impressed with the feeling that neither commen taries nor sermons have yet made that simple and practical use Of the fullness Of Scripture truth for which it is adapted - perhaps he might say for which it is designed. The young mind certainly can be interested in the Word of God as a book full Of attraction as well as full of truth. Who ever can be made in any degree the instrument Of leading to this result by bringing out to view the real attractions of the Scripture, confers so far an invaluable benefit upon others. Download or read book The Book of Ruth Classic Reprint written by Paulus Cassel and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-21 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Book of Ruth We are reminded here especially of Uriah, who fell a victim to David's unlawful passions. This man, a hero and distinguished personage in Israel, was a Hittite or descendant of Heth (2 Sam. Xi. From his widow, that is, from an Israelitish woman once married to a Hittite, sprang king Solomon, just as David descended from a Moabitish woman, the widow of an Israelite. Nor is Uriah the only foreigner among David's distinguished warriors the list includes also an Ammonite named Zelek (2 Sam. Xxiii. It is remarkable, also, that David deposits the ark of God in the house of a Gittite, that is, a man who originated in Gath, a city of the Philistines. He was called Obed Edom, thus bearing the same name with David's grandfather, the son of Ruth.1 His surname Edom also betrays his alien origin. The ark of God was three months in his dwelling, and God blessed him and his house. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are only four chapters in the Biblical Book of Ruth, but very little information is given as to why she decided to leave her own country of Moab and her Moabite gods to travel with her widowed Israelite mother-in-law, Naomi, to Bethlehem-Judah. She and her best friend Orpah married two Israelite men and their lives together are given attention in this book. Once well-to-do, Ruth was now considered poor and upon arriving in Bethlehem had to glean during the harvest to survive. Why did she decide to follow an Israelite woman who did not worship her own pagan gods, and later choose to embrace the one-God religion of a deity which had no form? In this story, Ruth is able to glean on land owned by Boaz, a handsome landowner and a romance ensues. Since God works in mysterious ways, the hand of Yahweh is shown in this fictional story of perseverance and gives insight into human and spiritual love. Key characters are Ruth and Orpah, Naomi, and Boaz.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Book of Ruth: In the Revised Version With Introduction and Notes The present General Editor for the Old Testament in the Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges desires to say that, in accordance with the policy of his predecessor the Bishop of Worcester, he does not hold himself responsible for the particular interpretations adopted or for the opinions expressed by the editors of the several Books, nor has he endeavoured to bring them into agreement with one another. It is inevitable that there should be differences of opinion in regard to many questions of criticism and interpretation, and it seems best that these differences should find free expression in different volumes. He has endeavoured to secure, as far as possible, that the general scope and character of the series should be observed, and that views which have a reasonable claim to consideration should not be ignored, but he has felt it best that the final responsibility should, in general, rest with the individual contributors. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Ballad of Ruth: A Story for Christian PeopleThe story of Ruth, apart wholly from its inspired character, is one of great beauty by reason of the ex quisite simplicity of the record. The figure of Ruth stands in the foreground, a striking conception of womanly duty, illuminated by deep and lasting affec tion; Naomi reflects the experience of the sorrows of womanhood eating into a heart that still holds fast to its religious faith, whilst Orpah presents that picturesque kind of love which feels and weeps and midst tears fades out of vision. Mr. Smith, caught afresh by the beauty of this sacred story, as many have been caught before. Has versified the text, and has succeeded in pre serving the simplicity of the record, which is its chief beauty.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
