Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Memoirs from a Stormy Passage shares the story of author Mandy Inniss life with her son, Storm, describing a passage of her life that brought great pain but also great joy. After years of wanting a child and three failed in vitro fertilization attempts, she managed to naturally conceive and give birth to a son. After three precious months of happiness at the long-anticipated gift of Storm, Mandy and her husband faced devastating heartbreak when they learned their son was blind. But before she could adjust to her sons blindness, more medical conditions were diagnosed, all in the midst of their disintegrating marriage. Even so, Mandy didnt allow herself to wallow in self-pity, as her maternal instincts demanded that she step up to the challenge of doing what was best for her son. An inner knowledge told her there would be worse to come, and her son would need as much help as she could give. Storm was blind, the only word he could say was mum, and he couldnt walk unaided because his legs were failing him. Even so, he loved unconditionally, laughed loudly and showed Mandy how to live in the moment, to stop and listen. She now shares their story, as well as the ways in which a small, semi-rural town welcomed them, supported Mandy in her endeavour to help her son, and brought happiness to mother and child.

Thrilled beyond belief, she witnesses history in the making as Ann Collins pilots her beautiful black colt, Stormy Lightning, to victory. But Janie Bailey experiences more than a fan’s worship of horse racing. The previous winter, during a severe snowstorm, a black colt mysteriously appeared in their back pasture. When no owner surfaced, for a brief time he was hers. Then a fateful mishap on a trail ride in the mountains sent him fleeing back into the wilderness. When the cameras pan a close-up of Ann’s champion, Janie gasps, for she knows irrevocably that her colt, Storm, and this now famous racehorse are one in the same! The idea seems so preposterous, will anyone believe her? Living so far away, how can she contact Ann to let her know about Lightning’s past? Janie has an even bigger secret. Lightning left a piece of himself behind. Earlier that year, a paint mare belonging to her family gave birth to a black and white colt, an image of his sire. Wouldn’t Ann want to hear about this, too? What will the future hold for Janie and her promising gift horse? Stormy Hill’s Gift is the fifth book in The Stormy Hill series.

Book excerpt: "James Malory sets sail for America to honor a promise he made to his in-laws: His and Georgina's daughter, Jacqueline, will have her come-out in America. Judith and Jacqueline Malory are not simply cousins; they are inseparable best friends. Refusing to miss Jacqueline's come-out in Connecticut, Judith convinces her parents to let her delay her London debut by a few weeks so she can accompany her cousin. Neither girl intends to fall in love during her first Season. But Judith's plans are overturned when aboard ship she comes face-to-face with the ghost who has been haunting her dreams. Unknown to the Malorys, deckhand Nathan Tremayne is a smuggler with a noose around his neck. Determined to carry out a covert mission in America that could gain him a pardon, Nathan senses that beautiful Judith Malory is trouble. Somehow the minx knows his secret--and now she's blackmailing him into doing her bidding. While passions can soar on the high seas, Nathan knows this aristocratic beauty is merely amusing herself with a scoundrel like him. When the unthinkable happens in Connecticut and the elder Malorys' hands are tied, Nathan takes command of a dire situation. Captaining his own ship, he turns the tables on Judith, as he steers them into some intense Caribbean heat where he will fight with all his mettle to win the right to her heart" --

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this engaging and nuanced political history of Northern communities in the Civil War era, Adam I. P. Smith offers a new interpretation of the familiar story of the path to war and ultimate victory. Smith looks beyond the political divisions between abolitionist Republicans and Copperhead Democrats to consider the everyday conservatism that characterized the majority of Northern voters. A sense of ongoing crisis in these Northern states created anxiety and instability, which manifested in a range of social and political tensions in individual communities. In the face of such realities, Smith argues that a conservative impulse was more than just a historical or nostalgic tendency; it was fundamental to charting a path to the future. At stake for Northerners was their conception of the Union as the vanguard in a global struggle between democracy and despotism, and their ability to navigate their freedoms through the stormy waters of modernity. As a result, the language of conservatism was peculiarly, and revealingly, prominent in Northern politics during these years. The story this book tells is of conservative people coming, in the end, to accept radical change.

Book Contributions to Psycho analysis

Download or read book Contributions to Psycho analysis written by Sándor Ferenczi and published by Pantianos Classics. This book was released on 1916 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sándor Ferenczi details several of his most notable contributions to psychology and psychoanalysis in this series of essays, including his ideas about dream theory and symbolism. Ferenczi was interested in a range of subjects relevant to mental health. He was an early investigator of developmental psychology in children, observing the age at which they arrived at an conceptual understanding of reality. He recognized that childhood is a time of immensely important development; a poor upbringing is a common factor in mental ill-health later in life. Ferenczi established that trauma and fears of specific objects or phenomena acquired in childhood can persist into maturity. Departing from the Freudian ideas of his time, Ferenczi considered direct experience and discussion with individuals to be important when establishing their state of mind. Rather than simply listening to the patient's thoughts, he would question and occasionally interrupt their responses to gain a deeper insight. Expressing empathy for the patient is also considered important, that the state of mind be clearer to the psychoanalyst who is appreciated for demonstrating genuine interest and care.
