Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dark clouds may have silver linings, but storms still leave the landscape irrevocably changed. Interweaving intrigue and love, the stories of Silver Linings follow the lives of those caught up in tempests of government conspiracies, fae court schemings, pack politics, and demi-god manipulations. Through separation and loss, and struggling against unimaginable odds, our characters fight to create their own silver linings, and in the process show that the strength of the heart can endure any storm. In January of 2018 a group of writers came together to build a community founded on the belief that together we can achieve more than any of us could alone. That community became known as the Silver Ink Writers, and is devoted to providing a supportive and creative space for writers and artists to network and grow their skills. Silver Linings is an anthology of short fiction, and is the first collaborative project to come from the group.

When twins Dylan and Emma Goldman move from Washington to Belfast they strike up friendships with Maeve and Sammy. Gradually the nationalist girl and loyalist boy overcome their suspicions of each other, and all four children become friends. But even as they have fun at local sports clubs, attend the Goldman's barbeques, and secretly make their own radio programmes, they can't ignore the trouble that is slowing gripping the country. And when the simmering tensions in Northern Ireland erupt into violence it threatens not just their friendships – but their very lives.

Book God s Grace in the Real World

Download or read book God s Grace in the Real World written by Matt Ellis and published by . This book was released on 2021-02-06 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is hard. Sometimes, it feels like we are hanging by a thread. How can we think so that we become better and not bitter as we experience some of life's traumas? The primary theme of this book is that we must focus on God's grace rather than the trials. We must look for and celebrate what we see God doing in our lives, even as the world sometimes seems to crumble around us.Rather than using this book to toss a lot of principles at the reader, the author shares many stories from his personal experiences. Matt has filled this book with examples of what it looks like to live in a broken world while keeping our mind positive by focusing on the good things that God is doing. The goal is to encourage the reader to refuse to be overwhelmed with the troubles of life. The reader will be motivated to focus on God's grace and celebrate it.

Book The Other Side of Suffering

Download or read book The Other Side of Suffering written by Katie E. Cherry and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-03-25 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work, the author addresses a perennial question: how does someone recover from a catastrophic disaster or other personal tragedy? The answer, she suggests, may come from coastal residents who survived the 2005 Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. These survivors endured a long and painful journey after losing homes and communities in these deadly storms, and their experiences provide an authentic and relatable example for other people who must overcome a life changing tragedy. The Other Side of Suffering is based on behavioral research conducted by the author in the years after the hurricanes. In her research, Katie Cherry logged thousands of miles crisscrossing the Louisiana coastline and spoke with over 190 current and former coastal residents with catastrophic losses after Katrina. The author begins with an overview of the human impact of these disasters, and then focuses on the community impact on two coastal parishes in southern Louisiana. The incorporation of the personal journal entries of a Katrina survivor provides an intimate glimpse into the long days and months that over a million displaced Gulf Coast residences experienced. From this research, the author identifies six evidence-based principles of healing: faith and humor, respect and gratitude, and acceptance and silver linings. Colorful illustrations and direct quotes from the respondents bring these principles to life. Along with a path to healing, the book also discusses grief and the new normal after a disaster, as well as obstacles that may thwart the healing process. Ultimately, the work emphasizes the importance of recovering daily routines and observances as life goes on after disaster.

Worse still, she has to work alongside TV weatherman Sonny Samuels, who barely knows his storms from his tsunamis. It doesn't take long for Sky to become enchanted by the strange weather patterns over St Felix. Sonny is convinced they link to local folklore, but Sky knows her science too well to fall for that. Until she meets Walter, a local weather watcher with no qualifications beyond a lifetime of experience and Sky is forced to question everything she thought she knew about the weather, herself... and Sonny. _______________ Praise for Ali McNamara: An enchanting escape. Book excerpt: The contents of this book had their beginnings in 2001, not with the expectation that they would be published, but that they might be a source of comfort to a small group of friends. Administered in a one-a-day fashion in connection with a daily devotion, it quickly became manifest that their would also serve as a source of therapy for their writer. Since their beginning on that early spring day I have spent the quiet moments of my late evenings and/or early mornings in silent meditation and prayer, and then the words would come forth.

Book The Silver Lining

Download or read book The Silver Lining written by Hollye Jacobs and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-03-18 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER As a healthy, happy thirty-nine-year-old mother with no family history of breast cancer, being diagnosed with the disease rocked Hollye Jacobs’s world. Having worked as a nurse, social worker, and child development specialist for fifteen years, she suddenly found herself in the position of moving into the hospital bed. She was trained as a clinician to heal. In her role as patient, the healing process became personal. Exquisitely illustrated with full-color photographs by Hollye’s close friend, award-winning photographer Elizabeth Messina, The Silver Lining is both Hollye’s memoir and a practical, supportive resource for anyone whose life has been touched by breast cancer. In the first section of each chapter, she describes with humor and wisdom her personal experience and gives details about her diagnosis, treatment, side effects, and recovery. The second section of each chapter is told from Hollye’s point of view as a medical expert. In addition to providing a glossary of important terms and resources, she addresses the physical and emotional aspects of treatment, highlights what patients can expect, and provides action steps, including: What to do when facing a diagnosis How to find the best and most supportive medical team What questions to ask What to expect at medical tests How to talk with and support children How to relieve or avoid side effects How to be a supportive friend or family member How to find Silver Linings Looking for and finding Silver Linings buoyed Hollye from the time of her diagnosis throughout her double mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation, and recovery. They gave her the balance and perspective to get her through the worst days, and they compose the soul of the book. The Silver Lining of Hollye’s illness is that she can now use the knowledge gleaned from her experience to try to make it better for those who have to follow her down this difficult path. This is why she is sharing her story. Hollye is the experienced girlfriend who wants to help shed some light in the darkness, provide guidance through the confusion, and hold your hand every step of the way. At once comforting and instructive, realistic and inspiring, The Silver Lining is a visually beautiful, poignant must-read for everyone who has been touched by cancer.
